I was really disappointed by the place. The bar, pool area and beach are actually very nice; however, the rooms are terrible. I was appalled by how dirty our bungalow was. The mosquito net probably had never been washed and it was covered with bird/animal/insect poop. There were also several dead insects embedded in the net as well. Big gaping...

I stayed at Mikadi for three nights and it was really good! The bandas are basic but mostly with sea view, moskito net had no holes. The bar area has several couches and corners to lie down and relax - with view on beach and ocean. Food is a bit pricy but the portions are big. Excluding breakfast but including...

Mikadi was a really nice chilled place to stay for a few nights. Pros: - one of the new owners (Berg) was really nice and sat drinking with us and shooting the breeze one night. - It's really chilled and got a nice vibe. - I felt really safe in the place. There's guards at night and the beach is...

Myself , husband and 4 year old daughter stayed here for 5 nights beginning of July. A lovely location right on the beach. We have spent many a weekend there, meeting travellers, reading, sand between toes. wonderful view and atmosphere (unless there's a holiday disco next door) highlight continues to be the food... Ensuite bandas are an excellent addition. I'm told small bandas on beach should be upgraded though... Keep the standards up Mikadi!

We arrived at Mikadi beach by bike after several months of bike travelling through Africa. This was our lay-over point for continuing onwards to Zanzibar, and suited us perfectly. Julia the manageress was really very helpful and went out of her way to help us arrange passage on the ferry and help with a host of other biker related issues...

Been in Dar for 2 years, paid my first visit to Mikadi Beach and regret not having been there before. The location: beautiful. Right in front of some islands, just off the ferry, so close to Dar Es Salaam yet so far away from the hectic life. A lot of young travellers and backpackers are guests at Mikadi, which makes...

We stayed here one night instead of the 2 planned, and are not very demanding travellers, have been cycling all over Africa and know how to rough it. But this place... Very poor value for money (although not expensive and on a beautiful location): brackish water from the shower, filthy chalets, damp mattresses and pillows, loud music between 12 pm...

As always as a traveller I'm looking for value for money, experience and atmosphere and this place has it by the bucket load. All I can say is it is what it is. Location paradise, food is great and reasonably priced as are drinks. As for the atmosphere, well it's certainly a place to chill. Good staff, good people, good...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Mikadi Beach Lodge derives its name from the Mikadi tree which thrives along the beautiful Tanzanian coastline. Jo (Zimbabwean) & Lucho (Chilean) married and owner/managers, took over the lodge in February 2008 and since then have embarked on a complete refurbishment of the place. If you have your heart and soul in a place this emanates to staff and clients alike. We are in love with Mikadi and that shows in everything we do to make your stay with us both enjoyable and memorable. They say location is everything and we are in the perfect location! We are only 15 / 20 mins from the Zanzibar ferry so ideally placed for those travellers wanting to visit Zanzibar. ... more   less

“You want to rest take the room with the ensuite. You want to party take the standard. I tried both and had a belter of a weekend and still got to work on time Monday. Hahaha.”

“Fact is that I didn't use the room much. Haha spent most of the night / morning sipping killi and whiskey, swimming in the pool then watched the sun come up, then spent most of the next day snoozing in the hammock. Hahahah Classic night. If you need rest go for the upgrade with ensuite. If your going to party take the standard room as it is right in the beach.”
