After the few days of staying at Bar Basyma, I feel like I have friends for life in the most sincere and genuine way possible. You can see from the photos that the accommodations are super tasteful and elegant and I can assure you the food is as good as it looks if not better, but the people.... I have never felt more cared for. The service was just unbelievable. Example: One night, my wife and I went to a nearby restaurant. It's pretty easy to get lost in the medina and it is even worse at night. I had asked Hmoda the manager for some instructions before we left so I felt pretty good about getting there and back. Then he said, "Oh, I am going that way on my way home. I'll walk with you there." Several hours later after dinner, Hmoda just happened to be passing by the restaurant as we were leaving because he wanted to check on something back at the hotel. I'm pretty sure he had someone from the restaurant call him when we were getting ready to leave. This service was not, I assure you, some attempt to get a tip or anything else. This was just pure generosity from his heart. That is what we experienced from everyone at Dar Basyma.

Our group of 6 stayed at Dar Basyma for a nine day vacation. The home is well appointed with beautiful and comfortable furnishings. The staff is amazing! We loved all the meals at the riad. Our driver was excellent and very informative. Several trips were arranged for us: a tour of the medina, a 3 night trip to the desert to ride camels, a day in the Ourika Valley. We got to see a lot of the beautiful countryside and experience extremes in climate - through a snow storm on the Atlas Mountains; the beautiful evening in the desert; one chilly rainy day and some hot and dry days in Marrakech. It was a wonderful trip and highly recommended!

We booked this riad for the location and for the convenience, as we could arrange any tour we wanted with the affiliated staff. It cost a bit more, but the guides and riad are top notch! The riad itself is very nicely decorated, simple and elegant and the rooms are large and comfortable. There are 3 bedrooms and each bedroom has it's own bathroom. More luxury than we needed, but nice after a long day in a sometimes chaotic city! There were a couple of scheduling snafus, one due to the fact that our phone would not work (ours, not the house phone), but all were remedied quickly. I also was a bit nervous that I had to pay upfront via PayPal, but turns out my fears were unfounded. We got a trip of a lifetime! Everyone (Ghizlane, Mokhtar, Abdi, Hamid....sorry for any misspelling!) did an amazing job at giving us an experience we won't forget. Don't be afraid to book this riad, you will not regret it!

This home is very well located in Marrakesh in a safe and fascinating neighbourhood. We enjoyed our daiMly walk through the market shopping and this was one of the highlights of our time in the city. The home is meticulously clean and beautifully decorated. The staff in Morocco are exceptional and they went out of their way on several occasions to make our experience special. For example, they helped me to get a birthday cake for my son who turned 16 and took my brother's sandal to get fixed in the market and brought it back within 10 minutes, added time to our telephone. Moktar is a professional, knowledgeable and kind guide. He provided and exceptional experience for us on a 12 hour drive to the desert providing cultural education and information that we would not have been able to obtain any other way. He was kind and gracious immediately helping us with a small error that occurred on our desert tour feeding us a wonderful couscous dinner as a gift to apologize. We were grateful for his kindness and appreciated his daily phone calls to ensure that we were 'ok'. Gislane the housekeeper was also exceptional. She made us a variety of breakfasts on our 5 night stay and kept the home clean and tidy and always smiling. There was another man who was in our house the last three days of our stay for several hours just sitting in the living room. He was never introduced to us and we were not certain of his role but he seemed to have something to do with the house as well. I emailed the owner prior to my stay asking for the staff to leave the home by noon (after reading other reviews complaining about this) but I found when I was in Marrakech that I was more than happy to have Gislane in the home to ask questions and for the help. There appears to be some kind of an expectation (emailed by the owner to me prior to arriving) at this villa rental that the guests will tip the staff (three of them) $10-$20 per adult. If there were 6 adults in your party this could easily add up to another $250 a day to the rental. A quick search of the internet will help you to find that this tipping scheme is out of line with the rest of Morocco. My only compliant with this rental and why I am not able to give it a full 5 stars was my booking experience. The owner was always prompt and responsive to my emails but the difficulty came three days before we were leaving Canada for Morocco. The homeaway website did not accept my final payment (system down I guess?) and so I sent the payment to her via paypal. She acknowledged the payment but then told me that I didn't pay. Several emails from her informing me that my payment had not occurred and her trying to tell me that what I did pay was for a portion of my tour that I booked with her left me feeling anxious and stressed. I was so disappointed with the customer service that I ended up contacting both homeaway and VISA to see if the payments could be reversed. Indeed I could have cancelled this portion of my holiday but two days before leaving the country I felt less than enthusiastic about finding alternative accommodation. Homeaway was excellent and assisted with resolving the situation. I am aware that confusion can occur but it was my experience with the owner, who never did acknowledge that she had made an error or apologise for what amounted to a great deal of stress for me that left me unhappy.
