Travelers' Choice
With 20 individually styled rooms and suites, a four-bedroom private riad, 3 swimming pools and its own hammam spa, El Fenn is a unique boutique hotel combining grandeur and historic architecture with hideaway nooks, terraces and gardens - making it the most peaceful place from which to enjoy Africa's most exotic city. Our story began with two friends on the hunt for a small riad to buy as a holiday home. It was 2002 when Vanessa Branson and Howell James walked into the almost ruined courtyard of one of Marrakech's formerly great private homes. Nearing dusk and with the sound of the muezzin's call to prayer echoing in the air, they instantly fell in love with the atmospheric house which was being sold with three smaller neighbouring homes. They soon realised that their holiday home was going to become so much more.At the time, only a handful of Marrakech's riads had been converted to small hotels and Vanessa and Howell knew they wanted to open a place offering something different - a home from home retreat that combined great food and service with the spirit of the building's past and a contemporary decorative twist. During a two-year renovation, local craftsman used traditional techniques to breathe new life into the building. Polished lime plastering was used in a rainbow of colours to create walls, baths and bed frames, original tiling was renovated and carved cedar ceilings restored. Retro furniture sourced from local flea markets was combined with one-off bespoke pieces to create a unique interior.

Stayed at El Fenn for a week for Christmas 2020 and it was truly magical. A hidden oasis with exceptional design. All the staff were amazing including Tara the Exec Chef, Noah, Bel, Beyonce’s twin dancer lookalike (hehe). We had a wonderful room, (26) with the bath in the room, as the most comfortable bed with an outdoor shower. Perfection. We had the opportunity to be upgraded to room 21, which was incredible. Pure luxury and was spoiled rotten. Had a lovely Christmas dinner on the rooftop terrace and indulged in afternoon teas, feta and mushroom omelettes and shakshukas. The food is wonderful, the lunch is to die for. The rooftop terrace had amazing views and the pool was the cherry on top. I would go back in a heartbeat.

My wife and I just visited Marrakech and stayed at this delightful place. Riad El Fenn was superb on every level. The food, the Riad itself and of course the people - from the masseur to the cleaner to the management. They were faultless and would certainly recommend. Well done team - we will be back. Matthew and Sara (room 21)

Literally the most magical riad- We came for my sister's 30th and it was just amazing. All the staff so incredibly friendly and helpful and really pulled out all the stops to make our stay so special. We had a lovely guide, Hanane, who was THE best tour guide ever. She is so great and made our time in the medina extremely memorable, I cannot sing her praises enough. Her number is firmly saved in my phone for our next visit to Marrakech.

We just spent 4 nights at this very special hotel with our 2 daughters who had stayed here in November and insisted that we came. It is an amazing place, an oasis close to the centre but so beautiful and calm. I arrived at the hotel with a broken front crown and immediately they arranged an emergency dental appointment and one of the hotel staff drove me there and stayed with me while it was repaired, I couldn’t have had better treatment at home! Thank you Belaid and Aziz. We stayed in a 3 bedroom apartment with a beautiful private roof terrace and plunge pool. Everything was perfect, such attention to detail and beautiful artwork throughout. Breakfast and dinner on the roof terrace were delicious, all food allergies and dietary requirements were well catered for. It was lovely watching the sunset from the bar. All the staff that we came into contact with were friendly and professional, service throughout was exceptional. At present there is some building work going on next door to expand the Riad further but it was not a problem for us, we are looking forward to visit again when the new rooms are ready.
