With 20 individually styled rooms and suites, a four-bedroom private riad, 3 swimming pools and its own hammam spa, El Fenn is a unique boutique hotel combining grandeur and historic architecture with hideaway nooks, terraces and gardens - making it the most peaceful place from which to enjoy Africa's most exotic city. Our story began with two friends on the hunt for a small riad to buy as a holiday home. It was 2002 when Vanessa Branson and Howell James walked into the almost ruined courtyard of one of Marrakech's formerly great private homes. Nearing dusk and with the sound of the muezzin's call to prayer echoing in the air, they instantly fell in love with the atmospheric house which was being sold with three smaller neighbouring homes. They soon realised that their holiday home was going to become so much more.At the time, only a handful of Marrakech's riads had been converted to small hotels and Vanessa and Howell knew they wanted to open a place offering something different - a home from home retreat that combined great food and service with the spirit of the building's past and a contemporary decorative twist. During a two-year renovation, local craftsman used traditional techniques to breathe new life into the building. Polished lime plastering was used in a rainbow of colours to create walls, baths and bed frames, original tiling was renovated and carved cedar ceilings restored. Retro furniture sourced from local flea markets was combined with one-off bespoke pieces to create a unique interior.

After a recommendation we booked El Fenn for dinner the first night we arrived in Marrakesh. The staff were so lovely and friendly, the restaurant was stunning and the food was dreamy! Highly recommend having a cocktail at the roof top bar next to the restaurant as well! Next trip Marrakesh we will look into booking the hotel.

I discovered El Fenn restaurant years ago and already fell in love with the place ! I came back this year and spent 4 amazing nights in this beautiful riad! The rooms are amazing, the staff is super caring, nice & helpful. I enjoyed the food, the pools, the spa and playing with the 2 cats and the turtles ! It’s so close from the souks and Jama El Fnaa, can’t wait to come back in the future ! THANK YOU EL FENN !

I know it's expensive, but just book it for one night. You deserve this. This hotel was the best hotel I have ever been to. It's so much more than a hotel, it's an art museum, a turtle sanctuary, an amazing bar & restaurant, and a water park (they have 4 pools, ones so small they don't even count it on their website, they have so many pools they don't count them all, it's not even that small!) If you come for one night, they'll let you use the amenities like the pool before and after your checkout, so you can really savor the magic of this place for as long as possible. The spa menu is pretty affordable, considering the room rate (although I didn't have enough time to check it out). We were upgraded to a bigger room than we had booked, and it was so beautiful! The shower was that wonderful rainfall type and there was a massive tub for relaxing in. The room was just as beautiful as the carefully designed premises, with stunning rugs, beautiful art pieces, and comfy furniture. The staff here are so helpful! They sent someone to the train station to book our train ticket for us and arranged covid tests right at the hotel for our flight home. Also, I saw on Instagram that they light candles to float in the pool. After dinner, I went to the pool to see it but was disappointed that there were no floating candles. I went to ask what time they'd do it at and when they learned it was my only night visiting they set them up for me! I'm not sure what the schedule is for pool candle lighting, but it seems the night of my visit was not on the schedule, but they did it anyway at my request. They know how to make every guest feel special. We even called them after moving to a different (Re: cheaper) hotel with questions and they continued to help. Then, after we checked out, they sent us three Spotify playlists so we could keep vibing with them!

I have traveled the world and stayed in many beautiful places, but El Fenn is my favorite. This is my second visit to El Fenn (this time with 5 friends; last time with my family). Every part of it was inspiring - the interior design with incredible tile, textiles, rugs and objects; the food and cocktails; the incredible rooftop at morning and sunset. And most of all, the kind and attentive service. We were recognized and greeted everywhere in the hotel, and special care seemed taken to help with day plans, remember how we liked our morning coffee, and join in the happy spirit of our trip. I will return again and again. We were recommend the best guide I have ever experienced who was essential to our trip experience: Mustapha Chouquir. Mustapha is kind, moral, insightful about everything from history to interior design. He ensured each of the 6 women on our trip was able to achieve their shopping goals, while also helping us discover the best restaurants, stores and historical spots. All navigated the souks with calm and organization to use our precious trip time to maximize delight. He is known and respected on every street, and managed to also gather up all of our purchases from multiple locations and help consolidate them and get every single thing shipped back to Chicago perfectly. I cannot imagine the trip without him.

After getting engaged and married at El Fenn, my husband and I went back for a hot vax summer, weeklong hiatus — with our baby twins (!) Everyone on staff was so considerate, it was like visiting family. They went beyond to make our stay as magical as ever, from putting special, divine touches to our room, to preparing special meals for the twins, to planning excursions by day and whipping up the most outrageous cocktails by night. Heaven, with a tan.

Dear Jeanine, So glad you got to return to your happy place, this time with your children as well. What a story, so pleased you were able to celebrate with us, hope you had lots of fun on the new roof terrace. We have been working on our cocktails so we're pleased to hear they get your seal of approval. Hoping we get to see you again very soon.
