We had 4 nights in this gorgeous riad with Romaine and her staff. They were so welcoming and helpful. The riad is exquisite - everything perfect and so comfortable. It's been very tastefully restored. We had delicious breakfasts each morning on the sunny roof terrace with views of the Atlas Mountains. There was plenty of choice. We also had dinner...

Dear Eileen A huge thank you for taking the trouble to write a review following your recent visit. I am delighted that you and your husband enjoyed a comfortable stay here and appreciated our cuisine and general ambience as well as the staff. Do come again. The weather has now turned to summer and therefore the hot water bottle service...

This architecturally glorious renovated Riad with tasteful authentic decor is breathtakingly beautiful. The location in the beating heart of the action in the Medina is absolute perfection. The noisy lively bustle of the local traders outside on narrow cobbled pathways with their donkeys and handcarts contrasts with the cool quiet luxury of the sanctuary within the Riad El Mezouar. We...

Hidden amid the chaotic tumult of the medina is an extraordinary riat that offers beauty, calm and exquisite attention to you as a traveler in a new city. El Mezouar offers every detail one would want in a luxury stay— without the plastic feeling of a big hotel. There are fresh flowers in every room, warm showers with an array...

Stepping in through the magnificent door you enter a breathtakingly beautiful courtyard. The rooms having been refurbished with incredible style and taste by the current owner over the last two years. Everything has been thought through to the tiniest detail, even rose petals for your bath. An exquisite dinner can be arranged on request and will be served by the...

Dear Jadzia Thank you so much for this review. It makes everything worthwhile for myself and the staff to learn that guests appreciate the service we offer here in the riad. It was gratifying to hear your enthusiastic accounts of your days in the souk or at the historic sites of Marrakech and your adventures in the mountains over breakfast...

Dear William Thank you for your positive review and lovely comments which at the riad we appreciate greatly - both myself and the staff. We loved having you and your family here and enjoyed hearing your stories from your days of sightseeing. I appreciate New York is a long haul from Marrakech but please come again! Romaine

I can only reiterate what others have already said. It is a stunning combination of modern style and comfort with a centuries old building of great character. This achieves the ultimate of plumbing and hot water that work very efficiently together with the atmosphere and character of the old building. The staff do a superb job and the cook prepares...

Dear Simon I responded to your positive review privately some time ago as I had your email address, but I just wanted to make it public how much I appreciated you taking the time to write a review with special commendation for our plumbing (always a challenge in an old building) and our kitchen. I have to thank my lovely...

I stayed for four blissfully relaxing and restful nights at the beginning of October at El Mezouar. This was my first trip to Marrakech and Morocco and I have already booked to go back to the riad, this time with my partner, in the New Year. I stayed in Zeitoun, a large, beautifully furnished and very comfortable room on the...

In the heart of narrow cobbled streets where locals actually live, you pass through a beautiful door that acts like a portal to another world. Centuries old high ceilings and pillars with a tiled swimming pool in the center. It is owned and run by a British lady supported by two charming local ladies. The service attitude was better than...

I first visited Riad El Mezouar during Ramadan last year and having found it a strangely ‘good’ time to be in Marrakech couldn’t resist another quick trip. Once again I was struck by the tranquillity of this idyllic haven! it’s hard to explain why the quiet makes such an impact so, imagine yourself walking through the chaos and fascination of...

Located beside a colourful, busy souk, Romaine Lancaster has created a beautiful, calm oasis. My 4 days there were a 5-star experience from start to finish - very caring service from all the team, delicious breakfasts and dinners either on the sun terrace or in the courtyard beside the pool. Refreshing dips in the courtyard pool, a visual delight with...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Located in the medina of Marrakech close to the soukhs and bustling Jemaa-el-Fna square, Riyad el Mezouar is a tranquil and unexpected hideaway. The villa was constructed in the XVIIth and XVIIIth centuries by the royal household for one of their important members of staff who was called the Mezouar, or head of royal protocol at that time, which explains its graceful and subtly grand architecture. Now a Maison d'Hotes, the riad offers 5 spacious en-suite rooms situated around the courtyard pool or on the first floor gallery level. Depending on the season, breakfast is served on the roof terrace, around the pool in the shady courtyard, the fireside winter salon or in the guest rooms. Dinner is available on request, prepared by a Moroccan cook. The aquamarine pool and rose fountain surrounded by flowers and mature trees provide a sanctuary for birds and offer shade during the heat of the day. From the roof terrace there are splendid views of the snow-covered Atlas mountains and the famous Koutoubia mosque. This is a quiet space in which to enjoy both the sun and stars where refreshments are served from the terrace kitchen throughout the day and evening. ... more   less
