What a place! The Riad is a total gem in a superb location, the interior is great, very nicely decorated with a gorgeous rooftop terrace and its own hamam. But the best are Hayet and Hashima, the two ladies, that run the house and overlook the staff. We have been traveling a lot worldwide, but we have never experienced such a heartwarming, personal and guest oriented hospitality anywhere else. You feel like being their best friend from the moment you enter the hotel. Service and food is great, we tried about everything: had dinner on the rooftop, breakfast as well, even booked a cooking class - which was so much fun as well. And we got massages, pedicure/manicure, Hamam experience - it all was stunning. Thank you for everything!!! We enjoyed it so much. Wouldn't have been the same without you!

This Dar is incredible and amazingly authentic decorated in Moroccan style and craft. The rooms are well appointed, the courtyards are beautiful, but more than that, it is the staff that makes the Dar Les Cigognes so wonderful. Hyat, the manager, and Hadjiba, the receptionist, went out of their way again and again to make us feel like family. I have never had such attention! The owner, Tanja, came out to greet us over tea when we first arrived. Azzim, the "tall man," is so friendly and helpful in every way. Plus, we had dinner on the rooftop terrace every night. The location is great for everything you will want to do in Marrakech. I can't recommend highly enough.

lovely! i tried to post the following on tripadvisor but it didn’t swallow it. i’ll try again tomorrow… We were 10! Two families of 5! The hotel and especially the warm and welcoming staff mastered the challenge of our eclectic group brilliantly. We felt at home immediately and all of us were awed by the beauty and originality of Dar les Cigognes. We are all seasoned travellers, even our teeners and twens, so we very much appreciated the unpretentious humility about this lovely place and the staff. Food? look no further, delicious and traditional. Cooking class? best we ever had. Roof top? evening breeze after a warm day with a refreshing G&T or a cool Casablanca. We cannot thank all! the staff enough for making our stay so unique and memorable, and… there are two angels you might meet when you get there:-)

I cannot recommend this gorgeous riad highly enough. A calm oasis about 10 minutes walk from Jemaa El Fna Square and the souks. The decor is stunning, and the food delicious and plentiful. We adored sitting up on the roof terraces and listening to the evening call to prayer from the surrounding mosques. My sister and I first stayed here over 15 years ago and have always wanted to return. Our stay was short, but the attention to detail and customer service was exceptional. Nothing was too much trouble, and Hyat and Hajiba went out of their way to make us feel treasured guests. I am already dreaming about our return! Thank you team Dar Les Cigognes

Beautiful, cool and tranquil riad with delicious home cooked food and managed by a wonderful friendly team. Hyat, Hajiba and their staff could not have been more welcoming and accommodating during our stay. We were treated like royalty! Enjoyed an envigorating Hamman and relaxing massage there - a welcome treat after the flight! Situated by the royal palace, a short walk from the souks it was a perfect base to enjoy Marakesh from. Can’t wait to return! Thank you Hyat, Hajiba and team we miss you already!

Behind the big wooden gate we were greeted like members of the family. Entering this Riad was like walking back in time. Uniformed staff presented us with the traditional mint tea and pastries in the central interior courtyard, it’s fountain filled with red and white roses. They brought us to our suite with rose petals scattered on the bed for our welcome to a romantic week. Skylights and brass chandeliers in the bathroom made us feel like royalty. The sitting room looked out on the entrance to a palace with guards (making us feel extra safe). This inner sanctum was just a short walk from the bustling city of Marrakesh. The rooftop garden was wonderful for breakfast and delicious dinners. One of the best and most exquisite treats was the private hammam for me and my husband. The intricate carvings, marble, tile enhanced the experience of the marvelous treatment by the well trained staff. They scrubbed us surrounded by steam and later massaged us in a nearby room (seen in the photos) with the high ceilings gently lit by stained glass. The beauty of the surroundings and the kind, attentiveness of the staff made this a most memorable stay.

The impression I had upon entering the riad was magnificent, and I was sincerely convinced I would have a wonderful time. The location near the Jewish quarter is interesting, the service staff very kind and the overall atmosphere is charming. There were several minor disservices, which I would have left on the back burner, but the experience totally changed because of one extremely unpleasant incident, and handled even worse by the management. No one thinks everything can be perfect in a hotel (my family runs a 5-star hotel in Rome, Italy): the waiters can be irritably slow and inadequate (and so they were in the breakfast), a dish can come out badly from the restaurant kitchen (and so it was during our dinner in Dar Les Cigognes), ants and other critters can get into the rooms (and so it was in the bathroom of the nice room), the air conditioning can be terribly noisy (and it was) but it is the kind of response you give to any problem that makes a management professional or not. We had 2 connecting rooms, one for us, one for our daughters. The doors to our respective rooms at night were left open for control, since outside each double room the riad has beautiful Moroccan-style wooden doors. During the night, someone managed to slip the hook of the wooden door and enter our room. I personally noticed this by waking up to a loud noise and calling my daughters' names as I thought they were up. In the dark, everything seemed to be all right and I went back to sleep. When we woke up in the morning, we discovered that the bag left on the armchair was open with the bills prominently displayed. At the count, about €400 and 1,000 dirhams were missing. I carefully avoid dwelling on this what it means for the safety of the guests (including 2 little girls), but I want to focus on the response we received to our quiet complaint the next morning. Nothing. I mean, a few polite words, a willingness to call the police, and much disbelief, as if to signify that the owner's thinking was that we had made it all up. We chose not to call the police, because we know well how it works in these cases (unfortunately also in Italy): so many questions, a lost day (out of 4 days of vacation would have meant adding more problems to a problem) the impossibility (in the absence of cameras) of being able to do anything else. Neither my wife nor I lost our patience or raised our voices (although perhaps we would have needed to), nor did we ask with compensation of any kind. We relied on the sensitivity of the property, which usually in such cases, in the impossibility of ascertaining the theft, nevertheless should show "closeness," "regret," even where it did not believe a word of what was reported. Those who run a hotel know very well how to frame their customers: there are professional complainers, as well as people who invent nonexistent inefficiencies or have made an art of petty scams. But we were inexplicably treated as impostors. The owner decided not to show up the next day, the day of checkout, nor had she given instructions to send us a fruit basket, an apology note, pay for our airport transfer, or give us a small discount on the rate. Nothing would have compensated for the unpleasant feeling of insecurity and the amount taken away, but it would have made us feel like guests at least understood and pampered as a management worthy of the name should do. Patience, it will not be 500€ less that will spoil the beauty of our memories of Marrakech, but the 1-star review you deserve all of it, and the other guests should also know that this is the consideration you have of a decent family with children, who had preferred to rely on your professionalism instead of insistently asking for compensation. Getting it wrong. Ah, of course I expect an apology from management the day some other guest complains of room theft by the same procedure. Because it will happen.

Response from General Management, General Manager at Dar Les Cigognes
Responded Oct 18, 2022
Mr Zafarti, you and your wife only had nice things to say about our hotel, its comfort, beauty and staff until you falsely accused us of stealing from your wife’s wallet on the second night of your stay. You and your teenage daughters had communicating rooms with a common door towards the interior of the hotel which you closed, by your own admission, overnight FROM THE INSIDE, using the large metal bar for this purpose. The next morning, you and your wife claimed somebody came into your room and removed money from her wallet, about 3 meters away from your bed, during your sleep. The ONLY people who could enter your room were your daughters. Despite the complete impossibility of anybody else entering your room, you claim to have been burgled. Then you refused to make a police declaration, proposed to you over and over again by myself and the manager. Your attitude towards the staff then changed dramatically as you kept requesting discounts and free services, which we saw no reason to grant you. Before checkout you then told us that you would give us negative reviews unless we diminished your final invoice. This was highly unethical and in closing, we can only say that we deeply regret that you chose our establishment as a target.

Words cannot describe how absolutely dreamy this Riad is. Not only is it beautiful, but the staff is absolutely INCREDIBLE. It offers the best food you can find. The meals are incredible. They truly make you feel like you are staying at home away from home. The rooms are beautiful, clean, and spacious. I wish I had more time there because it was perfect. The rooftop is AMAZING. We ate breakfast & dinner up there and it felt like a dream. I can’t say enough positive things about the staff. When we arrived, we did not have luggage because the airline lost it. The staff did everything they could to help us retrieve it. They called the airport & airlines until they were able to locate it. They go absolutely above & beyond. I will be returning! This place tiled every expectation I could’ve ever had. Thank you SO much!!!!!
