Everything about Riad Kaiss exceeded my expectations! The minute I checked in, I was in love! Instead of standing at a desk to check in, I was guided to a sofa in the courtyard, where I was plied with hot mint tea, bottled water, snacks and cookies. The spirit of hospitality oozed. Only after that was I asked to sign papers, produce my passport etc. Concern about my well being: After check in, I slept and slept. The manager, Lyann, called my room 11:30 the next morning to check on me, since the staff said I looked poorly and had the sniffles (allergy). She wanted to make sure I was not sick. She was genuine, not “fake concern” one sometimes gets in other places and countries. The courtyard where we had breakfast was SO relaxing and it stayed cool even if it was 100 degrees outside. I attribute this to the trees providing shade and the five foot thick walls of the Riad! The mornings were already cool, but if we returned at 3 pm, from the outside, the courtyard was still cool. Each guest room has air conditioning. Rooms: this was one of the few Riads that had two rooms with twin beds. Most riads only have king or double beds- fine for a couple traveling. But I definitely needed twin beds, and this Riad had twins. All rooms have mini refrigerators, and AC. Helpfulness: better than 5 star. This Riad only has 9 rooms. So I did not feel like “just a number.” All of the staff were unbelievably helpful and kind, and remembered who I was from one day to the next. Somehow I neglected to realize that I would need a Covid Antigen test to board my flight back to the US. The manager pointed this out to me, and saved me all sorts of grief at the airport! Thank goodness for her. She and the staff arranged for a person to come to the hotel to do it for me! Worried about travelers diarrhea? The first day I did not eat the fresh squeezed orange juice, watermelon or other fruit for breakfast out of concern for TD. The manager, who is originally from New Zealand, advised me the staff had been properly trained on food cleanliness and this was safe to eat. And my 8 day stay proved it was safe. Breakfast: Fabulous. I don’t know where they get the coffee beans, but it was the best cappuccino I have ever had, and that includes in Italy. Yoghurt, fruit, soup, bead and cakes. All wonderful. Transport: Riad sits very close to the closest permissible taxi streets; I felt it was a great location. Since cabs are mostly not permitted within the walls of the Medina, the location made it easy to get a cab. Most rides are 5-6 dm if you insist they use the meter. I was told not to pay more than 30-50 dm from my hotel to YSL museum outside the Medina. I had cab driver agree before I got in the cab. But another trip only cost 6 dm when I insisted they clear the meter and then use it. Of course I gave a generous tip. Be prepared to have exact change for your fare. Ambience: Perfect. Because the building was built around the 1500’s I believe, then renovated to become a Riad, I felt there was some authenticity in the structure, the design and decor. Riad Kaiss had security, they know who is supposed to be there and hotel entrance is locked. I had lunch at two different “famous” $1000 a night hotels and while beautiful, those hotels felt like sterile western construction with Islamic design, sort of like Disneyland. Fake. Need for bottled water: Riad Kaiss provided it. Airport transfers: riad can arrange at a reasonable cost. My highest compliment is I would definitely stay here again! Tip: I made my reservation not with an agent, but directly online with my credit card. I think this was better because the staff at Riad Kaiss better answered my questions by email before arrival. You will not get that with Hotels.com! Tip: if you decide to leave gratuities, know they are distributed equally among all employees. Ask for an envelope. One surprising thing I did learn that the French guests never tip, and considering how poor the country is, I think that is sad. Tip: if you decide to take your own taxi to and from airport, know there will be a few blocks of cobblestone streets and uneven surfaces for you to carry your luggage before getting to or from the Riad. Autos are not allowed in the Medina, except a couple of designated streets. If you have the Riad provide transfers, the driver will drop you at the closest entrance to the Medina, and the hotel staff will carry your luggage for you.

choosing to stay at the riad kaiss was one of the best decisions we made in our trip to marrakech. The staff is so welcoming and acommodating. Houdaifa and Mourad specifically exceeded all expectations in every way to give us the best experience. Houdaifa gave us so many recommendations of things to do and places to see. He made sure to stop by every morning during breakfast to see what we had planned for the day and to see if he could help in any way. We are so glad we took his suggestion of the Hammam spa. It is a must-do! (It was such a cleansing and relaxing experience we did it twice!) The entire riad is gorgeous with accent tile flooring and great rooftop views. Breakfast in the lush vegetated courtyard was a great way to start each morning. They even prepared breakfast early for us due to an early tour departure. Our stay was so great we moved our reservation from a different riad to make sure we were able to return to the riad kaiss once we got back from our desert tour. In short, we would recommend staying here to anyone looking to spend time in marrakech and would absolutely look into staying here again when we come back.

Dear Samantha. It was really a joy for us to host you. And we cannot thank you enough for your review. We try hard to make our place a home away from home.....albeit with some luxuries. We know surroundings are important but make no difference if you don't feel comfortable or listened to. We want to smooth out the ups and downs of travelling and make sure you leave with the best memories of Marrakesh. Thank you for choosing our riad and we send our fondest hopes and wishes for the future. Lyanne and all the team at Riad Kaiss

Shukran. We were delighted to welcome you and spend time with you. Wonderful people! Marrakesh is an exciting destination - there is a bit of everything in our North African country. Food, fun, shopping, walking, amazing historical sites and relaxing of course. We have the perfect riad for quiet (amongst a tumultuous neighbourhood) and easy walking to most places and sun sun sun. We send you our love and blessings. Lyanne and all the team at Riad Kaiss

We have had an amazing trip to Marrakech, specially because of the staff at Riad Kaiss. Always helpful and very service minded. Specially thanks too Houdaifa who made our stay perfect. It was a beautiful, intimate and idyllic place. And when the weather is too hot, you have a nice pool to cool down in. Which we used a lot.

Many thanks - we are very happy to read about your satisfaction with our riad. Summer is coming to Marrakesh and that means hot, hot weather. But it is very possible to enjoy yourself - explore in the mornings before it is too hot, have a wonderful siesta in the afternoon and go out again in the evenings when everything is open and when it becomes cooler. Riads are designed to help with the heat - the thick walls, tiles floors and inward facing windows make the courtyards a great place to rest and wait out the late afternoon heat. The pool too helps a lot. We are very grateful for your review. We send our best wishes always. Lyanne and all the team at Riad Kaiss

Shukran Jamie. Thank you so much. We are delighted to read your comments and thank you sincerely for taking the time to write a review. We are a small riad (9 rooms) with a great sense of team and family amongst the staff. Soufiane in the evenings along with the morning team, who make and serve your breakfast, helped along by all the others who blend together to get things done for you - is our most important reason for being. Hospitality is long ingrained in Moroccan culture and welcoming and making guests feel special is very important. We thank and respect you. Lyanne and all the team at Riad Kaiss

Riad Kaiss is by far one of my favourite spots in Marrakech. As soon as you walk through the doors and the main door closes, you are star stunned by the beautiful decor and stunning trees in the centre of the riad. We booked the private dining area for a group dinner and the food was 10/10, pure traditional Moroccan tagines- the flavours were incredible. Could not rate it enough, will definitely visit again. Thanks to the great staff for a great evening!

Thanks Melissa and thanks for coming back to visit and dine with us again. The winter is warming up and Ramadan is over so Marrakesh is in the full flush of late spring. The pandemic is behind us (although we are careful to keep up the necessary requirements to make sure it stays under control) so we are excited about the coming year. It is unbelievable to hear airplanes flying overhead again. Thanks for your continued support of us and kind review. We are deeply grateful and send our best wishes to you and your family always. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We were delighted to read your words and to know that your stay was pleasurable. We really appreciate that you took time from your busy life to remember us and write about your stay. Our riad was originally a sultan's palace - 350 years ago - and after that a very stylish French man made it his home and renovated it to modern standards. The joy of Riad Kaiss is the large garden with singing birds, bubbling water fountains, the cooler temperatures and the quiet. We send our best wishes to you for safe travels, health and peace. I had the most amazing stay in Riad Kaiss after completing the Marathon Des Sables in the Sahara desert. The Riad is absolutely magical. The most outstanding part of the Riad (well, everything is more than superb) is the staff - Leanne (the best of the best manager), Houdaifa and the rest of the crew are absolutely professional, kind, and simply EXCELLENT! STAY HERE!!! You won’t regret it! Many thanks Riad Kaiss for elevating my life experience.
