The Villa des Orangers is an intimate haven of peace located near the bustling souks of Marrakech with 27 rooms and suites arranged on two levels around three verdant open-sky patios with water fountains surrounded by galleries of chiseled plaster and a garden.

Walking through the door of the villa is truly magical - from the hustling street to a quiet courtyard with trees and swimming pool. The setting, the rooms both private and communal, the service and above all the kindness and professionalism of the staff made our stay simply amazing. We will come back!

Many times, when you mention Marrakech to someone who’s been there, they begin to smile mysteriously and typically say “Marrakech is magic.” My first trip (and not my last) to Morocco began just weeks after 2nd jabs were available and international travel had just opened to the vaccinated. And I arrived during the final days of Ramadan. This was an extraordinarily interesting time to travel there. My 2-week bespoke tour of northwest Morocco and much of the northern Atlantic coast ended perfectly with a stay at the lovely Villa des Orangers, with its kind, responsive and thorough staff and management that you could count on for your every need. The restaurant offers very well-prepared and presented entrees, starters, and deserts, that blend French, Mediterranean and Moroccan influences, always with most accommodating service. The villa, or riad, is located in the Medina, near the Koutoubia Mosque, the Jemaa El Ena Square and the Royal Palace, and not far from the Gardens Majorelle and YLS Museum. It was built in the 1930s in the traditional Moroccan style, with a large interior courtyard where meals are now served, under the careful watch of nesting storks in the towers surrounding the area. The level of service, the pools, patios full of plants and palm trees contributed to the overall calming environment and experience. In 1998 the new owners oversaw the conversion of the property to 5-star hotel began and in 2001, Villa des Orangers became a member of Relais et Chateaux. With Just 27 rooms and suites, without feeling obviously so, it is quite an extensive property offering massage rooms, a hammam, Nuxe beauty salon, a cigar cellar, and three pools. The public rooms are inviting and comfortable, feeling much more like a home than a hotel. My room was spacious and lovely, with a bathroom that was almost as large. If it’s possible for a stay at a hotel in one of the most mysterious places on the planet to make you feel at home, the Villa des Orangers will!

The riad is absolutely beautiful, from the gardens to the pools to the hammam. The stay was very relaxing and the riad so well located that you get the best of both worlds. Just a few steps outside the door and you are in busy Marrakech. The staff was great and very helpful. The rooms are just a bit smaller than they seem on the pictures but apart from that no complaints. Their spa is a must after a hot day in town!

I could not recommend this place more. It’s beauty and serenity are especially apparent after a walk through the streets and plazas of Marrakech. The entrance is on a street with service stations and a tire shop but once you walk thru their doors you entered a true Moroccan oasis.

This hotel is beautiful. We stayed here with our two adult sons (age 19 and 22) in late May as our first post-COVID trip. The rooms are lovely, and they upgraded us since we were one of only two guest groups there (currently no Europeans are permitted to enter Morocco so there are almost no tourists anywhere we go). However, even the "regular" rooms are beautiful and since the the courtyards/gardens and sitting rooms (of which there are many) all feel incredibly special and unique to sit in, your room almost doesn't matter. Each night we sat in a different one of of the outdoor or indoor sitting areas to play cards or read. The staff here was friendly and helpful and typical of how we have found all Moroccans to be on our trip (outgoing and welcoming in every way). The food was delicious, from our lavish breakfasts to our lunches to the dinners, and the chef was understanding of our numerous food allergies. They recommended a great guide for the city, and we also did a cooking class with Souq Cuisine which was fun. Spa and hammam were incredible! One of the other trip advisor reviews of the hotel complained about the hotel being next to a tire shop, but you need to remember that in this culture, all the beauty of a home/hotel/restaurant is always the inside of the walls. That plays out all over the country, and indeed, all over much of the Arab world. Once you get inside, this is a true sanctuary. This hotel was a splurge for us at the beginning a trip celebrating one son's HS graduation and the other's college graduation, and the splurge was well worth it.
