Beautiful palace in the Medina. Our first trip to Morocco starting in Fez. Our arrival was at 3am. We were met at the airport, driven to the Medina and led through the dark crooked alleys to the most amazing beautiful place- Dar Seffarine is a lovingly restored 600 year old building with all the architectural details you can imagine. You must be nimble to make it up the stairways! We had a 2-bedroom suite with a bath- breakfast served every morning was a delicious feast and the rooftop offered great views. Staff was gracious, you can order a dinner for n the palatial dining area. And the location is very good, and the prices very reasonable.

Absolutely wonderful. Huge gorgeous rooms, incredible central courtyard, terrific location, beautiful rooftop for relaxing and listening to the sunset call to prayer after a long day of touristing. The staff are invested in your experience and you should take any opportunity to eat meals here as they're incredible, especially for vegetarians. There is no central AC but each room has an AC unit over the bed and a rotating fan, which when combined with the high ceilings was completely sufficient for hot days. You'll never have to manage your luggage on the stairs, but if you need a ground floor room make sure to request it. Similarly, the WiFi is stronger in some rooms than others so make sure you request any preferences when making your reservation. Stayed here for a week, ate most meals here, and cannot wait to return.

Dar Seffarine is a beautifully restored guesthouse with a magnificent tiled courtyard. Each room is different, with high ceilings, heavy wooden doors, and light that streams through high windows. We stayed in a room with two double beds, a sitting area with a divan, chest for a coffee table, and two chairs, plus a desk. There were enough plugs and hot water. The room was always clean. There's a beautiful terrace for breakfast - included. The Dar also offers dinner, and it was the best meal we had all week in Fez. Expertly flavored, fresh, plentiful, and eaten at a communal table. The staff were so inviting and helpful. We would go back any time!

My partner and I stayed at Dar Seffarine's Blaine room for four nights and we were blown away by the quality of the room and guesthouse. The tile and woodwork quality was top notch, the bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom was spacious. The service was friendly with an excellent breakfast spread and great rooftop views. At a cost of €85 per night, the quality is on par with (or even better than) many hotels that cost double or triple the price. Highly recommended when staying in Fes.

Dar Seffarine is a truly amazing place to stay if you are visiting Fez. A lovingly restored traditional home in the centre of the Medina Dar Seffarine is perfectly situated for exploring and visiting all the sites. As soon as you arrive the owners and staff make sure you feel as if you can treat this as your home for the duration of your stay. The communal breakfast on the rooftop means that you get to meet and interact with other guests, sharing travelling tips and experiences. We decided to eat at Dar Seffarine on our first evening and the food was so good we ate there twice more during our stay. All the staff are amazing and we are really grateful for them arranging a Medina tour, a driver for day trip to the main sites outside of Fez and airport transfers. Finally, the rooftop terrace is truly a special place with amazing views over the rooftops of the Medina. Thank you to all at Dar Seffarine for making our trip to Fez.

A grand old many-story townhouse near the Karaouine mosque. The interior mosaic-work, massive carved doors and courtyard were splendid and one-of-a-kind. We spent 3 nights. The first 2 were upstairs in an enormous suite with multiple rooms and a view onto the courtyard below. Very comfortable bed and pillows and good shower. The third night was in a smaller room on the ground floor, which was still spacious and comfortable. The owners were warm and welcoming, and interesting to talk with. As well, the reception staff all spoke flawless English, gave us lots of suggestions of places to go and things to do, and also helped make arrangements for us. If you can, have dinner here. Not only delicious, but a bit of a welcome change from the standard Moroccan fare that we’ve had elsewhere.

Dar Seffarine is an incredible place that I would recommend to anyone visiting Fes!

As a student studying for a semester in Fes, I was excited to show the city to my parents and wanted to find the best Riad for them to stay in, one with modern comforts while also a historic and traditional home in a convenient location - this is exactly what Dar Seffarine proved to be! Next door to the oldest continuously operating university in the world and right in the midst of markets and the oldest sections of the Medina, the location can't be beat. Our room was incredible, the homemade breakfasts and dinner that we ordered were exceptional, the staff went above and beyond to assist us, and the rooftop views were out of this world. Thank you so much to Alaa and all the staff!

What a wonderful gem in Fez - my wife and I stayed here for 3 nights during our stay. Alaa, Kate and their team are really hospitable and attentive and when we arrived quite late (9pm) after a day of travelling, they welcomed us with a feast. The location is perfect, tucked in a quite side street of the bustling Medina and close enough to a gate to make going in and out of the medina easy.

The interior courtyard of this Dar is absolutely gorgeous, rooms were very well decorated and comfortable, the rooftop views are simply amazing - you should take a look at the photo album of the restoration to truly appreciate the effort and care that went into the house.

I highly recommend coming back to the rooftop in time for sunset for a view of the whole city while listening to the call to prayer. Food here is excellent too, we've had 2 dinners and breakfasts here, and we really enjoyed our meals.

We would be lucky to come back!

After arriving in Fez from the UK we had a bit of a culture shock when our taxi pulled up to Bab R’cif. We loved it. Our taxi driver (airport pick up was organised through the hotel), walked us through the maze of the Medina to Dar Safferine. We were welcomed in and given mint tea and although our late arrival 9pm meant we had missed dinner, our host served us some lovely lentil soup. We were shown to our room after marvelling at the architecture in this exquisite Dar (not a Riad as our host explained). I chose a room with separate sleeping areas for my daughter and although not luxurious I loved the charm and quirks of this traditional old building. Breakfast and dinner was served outside in a lovely courtyard and there is a roof terrace for views over the Medina. It felt very homely staying here and we were well looked after. Our room was very reasonable. We paid €95 per night including breakfast. Thank you for a lovely stay.

We were so pleasantly surprised by Dar Seffarine! The property is located in a very convenient area if you're arriving by car or taxi - perfect if you have large bags. Zouhir met us at the RCIF Gate and was warm and welcoming from the start. The property itself is absolutely gorgeous! Compared to the riads of Marrakech, this place is a palace! We loved how carefully the proprietors restored the space; you can really feel what it must've been like to live there hundreds of years ago. Despite being so old, the hotel is really clean, too. We very much enjoyed chatting with the staff and owners, who were all so kind and willing to give recommendations about Fes.

The only drawback of this place is likely unavoidable, given how old the building is. Every morning after we used the sink, a very strong sewage odor permeated the room. It lingered for quite a while, to the point that we had to use their beautiful common spaces to get some fresh air. We assume the only way to mitigate something like that would be to do a plumbing re-haul - something that's likely impractical for the size of hotel. The breakfast, while nice, also could've been a bit more wholesome and consistent. Some mornings were hearty, while others were primarily bread.

Not too sure if they serve alcohol. We didn’t order any the night we had dinner at Dar Seffarine.

I completely understand wanting to have some choices for dinner. We walked throughout the medina and I think there are certainly restaurants nearby, or not too far of a walk from Dar Seffarine. In terms of safety, although the streets in the Medina may seem a little dark at night, we did not feel unsafe once we were familiar with the area. The first night we arrived in Morocco and we walked through the the Medina to get to the riad I was a little uncomfortable, but after seeing everything in the light of day and walking around a bit I felt totally safe the following evening. If you decide to stay at Dar Seffarine, have them arrange transport from the airport for you, it was so easy and inexpensive. finding your way around the Medina can be quite overwhelming. The staff there will definitely provide you with directions and remember when you are walking through the Medina, be careful who you take directions from. Many boys and men will tell you that a street is closed so that they can guide you and they would want payment. It was such a great place to stay I would definitely stay there again, even if it meant walking a little bit further for dinner. Looking at the map, it looks quite far from restaurants, but I don't think it would be longer than 10 minutes or so to most of them. Hope this helps.
