Ok the rooms are not perfect. It's not the Marriott. But this place is exquisite. Check out the function rooms on the ground floor. The pool area is also fantastic. The grounds are fantastic. I ate in all 3 restaurants. Food was excellent. Yes it is pricey and I would not stay here unless I was on business, but I... More

I visited the hotel several times within the last 40 years. In 1999, the rooms in one of the most recent parts were awfull. This time, we were in a room with a nice view on the city and the harbour, it was in good shape. I was positively surprises. The cleaning staff is efficient, very kind and polite. Similarly... More

It simply fleece your pocket as many of us would turn up here incase they are not able to find a room in other hotels like me. It is simply overcharged and not worth spending $200 per night for a standard room. Rooms are small and looks of 90s era. Simple thing like tea, coffee kettles, drinking water are not... More

I'll start with the positives. The hotel looks beautiful on the outside, it's located in a nice part of town and surrounded by beautiful gardens. The pool is ok too. Maybe this used to be a 5 star hotel at some point in it's history but it has gone into deep disrepair. The rooms look like they were last renovated... More

Where do I start? What a fabulous location and decor. So Algerian. Wonderful place to wander through. As a hotel, no. Where do I start? 1. Staff. Some are good, others real bad. I found the waiting staff in the outside bar area really off. It's like you are asking too much of them and you are below them. 2.... More

If you are interested in the history of Algiers, this is the place to stay. Photos of Albert Camus, Josephine Baker, Rudayrd Kipling, and other famous guests decorate the lobby. My room looked out over the Bay of Algiers, and was nicely updated while retaining the classic charm of a century-old hotel. It is not ultra modern by any means,... More

Spent three nights on business trip. With a hotel as historic, interesting and as iconic as the Hotel El-Djazair, I'm prepared to overlook many things that you expect to find wrong in hotels of this era - problems in rooms, dodgy fittings etc. What I'm not prepared forgive or overlook, however, is the quality of the food. It was very,... More

Was looking forward to staying at the Saint George as a change from some of the formulaic chain group hotels. First impressions count. The security is at best lethargic. The building looked grand but you soon notice the fading glory. Tired paintwork, missing lampshades on the once elegant wall lights with replacement low energy bulbs of the ugly variety controlled... This hotel has definitely improved since the last time that I stayed here. The standard of spoken English at reception and in the restaurants has definitely improved and the variety of choices in the restaurants is better with quicker service. I stayed there for eleven days in February and was impressed by the friendliness and attentiveness of the staff. Keep... More
