Detailed Reviews
On a positive note, the view from the sea-facing rooms is absolutely gorgeous and the private balconies are a great place to relax. The rooms are large and the beds are comfortable, however signs of age and lack of maintenance are starting to show.
Whilst some staff are friendly and courteous, the majority behave more like civil servants than people in the hospitality industry. “The customer comes first” is definitely missing in their training manuals. Instead, one is made to feel that compliance to their rules is more important. I asked room service for an iron and was told no irons were provided because I “had to use the hotel laundry service”. My colleagues and I were told off by the security guard at the door for bringing bottled water into the hotel because “we had to purchase it in-house”.
I waited over 20 minutes after a very long journey for someone to show up at the front desk and check me into my room. My check-in was interrupted twice by other guests requesting their room keys to be reprogrammed and instead of asking them to wait or refer them to a colleague, I was left hanging.
The hotel is regularly used for ministerial meetings and visits, and the customer service declines even further as staff rush to cater to government officials and their entourages instead of their guests.

We just spent a week with my mother at the El Aurassi Inn in Algiers. Pension is worthy of a 5* by its structure its view, cleanliness and breakfast, the staff overall is welcoming however I have a mishap with room service. Indeed in the evening of 25/09 around 11pm I ordered hot water to drink herbal tea in my room and having the misfortune to ask the question es that infusions are free to the person who brought me hot water , he replied we are here to sell nothing is free in this Pension in a very unpleasant tone and he left turning his back on me while I was still talking to him (what disrespect!!!) his way of treating us and his answer shocked me because we were not in a Hostel but in a 5* supposed to be renowned for his customer service!!!!
Because of this person I ended up regretting my stay at this Pension because the welcome and the way to address the guests are very important criteria for me, knowing that I paid in advance a large sum for a week and finally we are treated like this is very disappointing!!!

I stayed here for 5 nights and the experience was great. The room is spacious, the cleaning is good and the sea view is stunning! WiFi was also stable and strong which was not the case in most other places I visited in Algiers. The restaurant was equally amazing with variety of offers. Salad buffet set up was the most generous I ahve ever seen.
Staff was generally pleasant and willing to help despite the language barrier. Most areas, they could try and communicate in English. I would want to be back to this place.

We spent three nights at the El Aurassi on the way into the country and again for a single night on the way out. We opted for the BayView Room upgrade which I highly recommend if you are going to spend any time in the room. Besides the awesome view there is a large private balcony with comfortable seating. The room had a comfortable king sized bed with a large bathroom with separate toilet room. The usual amenities were provided in terms of soaps, shampoos and conditioners. We did not get bathrobes which would have been a nice touch.
There are several restaurants in the hotel. We opted to have dinner in the Algerian restaurant and were pleased with the service, food and wine. There also is an Italian spot which we did not use and a buffet style restaurant which we only used for breakfasts, which were good with a wide variety of foods. We also had a few glasses of wine in the lounge which had a very competent pianist playing.
The hotel was relatively empty which was OK with us as we understand sometimes it is overrun with conferences. One slight issue was they wanted us to charge everything to our room and clear the bill out at the end of our stay. Apparently the credit card machines do not work. I do not like billing everything to my room for what should be obvious reasons. Nevertheless, our checkout process was only slightly protracted as they did all the calculations at checkout.
I should mention that they have impressive security for vehicles entering the grounds.
If I go back to Algiers I would definitely stay here again.

The most terrible hotel I have ever stayed in ... 5 stars ??? Doesn't even deserve 1 star ! I arrived at the hotel late at night because my flight had been delayed ... imagine how tired I was ... to get one of the "best sea view rooms" ???(not to mention one of the most expensive) only to find a room with a very dirty carpet full of big stains .... with no slippers available ("any in stock at the moment" ) and when I asked to change the room… the next one wasn’t better … same big stains all around the room on the carpet but … lucky me this one had the little sink next to the toilet dried urine on its rim 😱... and when I called reception ( who really took their time answering ) they sent a cleaner who cleaned the rim with the toilet brush !!!! I was horrified ! WoW ! The hygiene in this hotel is really terrible!!!The breakfast is as awful as the customer service! You have to "ask" for a cup to get a coffee and no spoon is available if you don't ask for it!!!! Nearly forgot to précise that you are not allowed to borrow an iron … it’s not permitted in the room .. so if you need your clothes to look perfect ( especially for a business meeting ) then you will have to give them to the room service to be ironed and the hotel will of course charge you for it !!!! This hotel is to me such a big joke !! Not only does it have to lose its stars ( All of them!) but it has to be also closed! What a shame!!!

An older property that's seemingly well-maintained, the El Aurassi has unparalleled views of the harbor and city. I spent some time with coffee and sweets on the patio enjoying the breeze and views. Staff are attentive, multi-lingual and breakfast buffet was good for my standards. Plenty of cold cuts, fresh bread selections and a nice selection of warm options (eggs, starches, meats, etc). Room was comfortable and clean with a nice balcony. Staff stopped by throughout the day to refresh supplies. Would like to see upgrades to provide more charging points at bedside and desk. Shower is an inconvenient setup that allows water to pool on floor and damage finishes.
Look forward to returning...

Built in the mid-1970s under the aegis of an Italian architect, this hotel symbolizes Algerian power. Prestige on top of a hill next to the casbash... the hotel has beautiful remains... it's monumental... the Auresses flow in the living room on the ground floor, a bar on the 1st serves various alcohol and beer to the privileged who can afford the luxury of this establishment.. The rooms have remained of seventies period and have no particular character... The corridors are huge... To reach it, it is taxi or on foot from the Place de la Grande Poste for the brave... it climbs .. The view is undoubtedly one of the major assets of this huge hotel...The pt dej (included) is varied, the grilled olives are excellent;-). On the price side, it is necessary to monitor the platforms and promotions offered (see Agoda..) clearly behind official prices.

This grand old dame - the first hotel built after the revolution - could be superb if someone paid attention to all the details. As it is it’s a good hotel - ATM, effective WiFi, bathrooms are problem free, though the water ran rust brown from most of the taps for a while as the pipework cleared on first stay. Good buffet breakfast, nice bar, less inspirational buffet supper and Algerian restaurant, swimming pool out of action but with working hammam. The airco only works if the door to the balcony is firmly closed. (Perfectly sensible, but it takes some time to work this out if you aren’t told). Within walking distance of the casbah.

Terrible hotel. Avoid at all costs. Not only was it dirty, it was very tired. I could imagine it being a five star hotel about 20 years ago, but it is nowhere near that level now. Breakfast was always cold and lacked any variety at all. We did eat in the restaurant once and it was exceptionally expensive for a buffet that was unsurprisingly cold (€40 each). The staff made you feel like it was an inconvenience customers being there. And the hotel descriptions were inaccurate. The pool has been closed for many months. The concierge was clueless as well. If I paid €40 per night it would have been ok (as a 3*). However, at over €70 it was poor value for money.

I usually have a coffee on the terrace of the cafeteria (or bar) each one calls it as he usually wants on weekends a beautiful place with panoramic views of the Bay of Algiers.
Overall the place is well attended by people of all ages.
Ps/ after 11pm it closes and asks customers to pay the Rating so they can leave.
This is where I understood why the Pension was almost empty in high season, in short a Public Sector Pension what.

There is a kettle with limited tea and powdered coffee - no milk or creamer. No iron or ironing board available in the room. I called room service to ask for one and was told I “must use the hotel laundry service”.
No Exec lounge! Sheraton is a better option for this.
