We just returned from having a delightful weekend and 2nd honeymoon at the Davie School Inn. This B&B is fully of charm and perfect for couples or families. They have thought of everything and furnished each room with tchotchkes from all their travels and moves in their earlier careers. The charm of this old school house is something you have to experience, and with the extra fun that is built in you won't be sorry you chose to stay here (DVD's, snacks, games, puzzles, cards you name it for entertainment). They built a huge deck out behind the old gym with lights, and tables and chairs and it overlooks a baseball field and grandstand. In addition, they have picnic tables and a fire pit for evenings under the stars. In the room, everything was in working order, and we loved all the little touches not to mention the delicious breakfast each morning delivered right to our door. We were upgraded to the gold suite which was just lovely. It had a refrigerator, microwave, sink, full set of dishes and glasses along with a little patio out back where we had drinks on our first night and breakfast the next morning. Of course we made sure we used the fireplace, huge Jacuzzi bath tub and was pleasantly surprised to find Gilchrist & Soames lotions, soaps and shampoos. This was already my favorite brand of bath gel and lotions and how nice to find a place with all the comforts of home. Each room is furnished with all the same amenities you would find in a hotel (iron, hair dryer, and toiletries). We plan to return in October to enjoy some of the local wine tastings and nights around the fire pit. Thank you, Lyle & Tammy

Went here for my birthday weekend and it was a nice surprise. They were waiting for me at the front desk when I arrived and, due to a guest's error, they needed to move my room from green to blue. I understood and appreciated that they were open and honest with me. The blue was perfect, especially for a single traveler like me.

The breakfast was delicious both days and they also had wine glasses and bottle openers in the room so I could open the wine I bought on the wine trail easily. I even wrote on the chalkboard! I wanted to stay again over New Years but they were booked solid. Next time I need a weekend away, this will be the first place I check for availability.

I stayed at the inn for a weekend to get some writing done, and I couldn't have asked for a better retreat. The high ceilings and huge windows let in so much natural light when you want it, and the curtains make everything cozy in the evenings. Breakfast each morning was delicious, and Lyle even noticed I didn't care for the orange juice and brought me milk instead without me even asking. The building is beautiful and so well-maintained, and I loved the chalkboards in the room with notes from previous guests. With close proximity to so many wineries and day hikes, you couldn't ask for a better place to come back to for a relaxing bath.

We spent out night in the Earth Science room!

We were two couples of retired science teachers on a Shawnee National Forest hiking adventure. When we heard about a B&B in a former elementary school - well, that became a destination!

Our friends were in the Life Science classroom, while we had Earth Science. Each room was set up as a suite, with two king beds separated by a chest-high room divider. Both had kitchenettes, large baths, and an extensive set of textbooks to help us keep up with homework.

Both hallways featured large work tables with an impressive collection of games and complimentary snacks. Breakfast was brought up to the rooms to be enjoyed in semi privacy.

The hosts are very friendly, helpful, and filled with local knowledge.

Now, here's some advice from an old teacher.

Don't be late for school!

Looking for a unique experience? The David School Inn is just the place! We chose the Inn due to its location but mostly because seriously—how often can you stay in a school house built in 1908? Everything was amazing, from booking to checkout. Lyle reserved a larger room in the newer part of the inn, yet when our adult son decided to drive over and stay with us, Lyle and Tammy quickly booked us into the ‘Red’ Reading-Themed classroom. The room had ample space for us and the beds were very comfortable. It was so cool to stay in a classroom, especially being a retired educator who taught reading intervention for years!! Lyle and Tammy brought a delicious full breakfast (Coffee and teas in room, along with a mini-fridge and dishware/glassware) right to the room. They also had excellent tips on sites within a 100 mile radius. The tour of the inn/history of the school was an added bonus. We will definitely be back when traveling in the area!

The room is an entire old grade school classroom, super clean, with a modern bathroom that had two sinks and a whirlpool bath AND a shower. There was a luxurious king bed, a record player, chalkboards, huge windows, dining table, sofa, chairs, desk, fridge, mircowave, coffee maker.... Reasonable price included a full delicious breakfast in room.

We really enjoyed our stay in the “Math” room. The decor was nostalgic and tasteful. The bed and sheets were super comfortable, and having a jacuzzi tub after a day of hiking was a welcome luxury. Lyle prepared one of the most delicious breakfasts we’ve ever had, and it was served in our sunny, spacious room. A delightful stay!

This was our second visit to Davie School. Different owners, same great service. Always a unique experience.
The building is from 1901, no elevator. If you have difficulty with stairs let the proprietor know so you don't have to go up to the top floor. 120 years ago kids thought nothing of 3 flights of stairs.
Breakfast is delivered to your door so you can eat in the comfort of your own classroom. You'd think the squeaky original floors could be heard by everyone in the building. Not so. We heard nothing but the noise we made ourselves. You can finally sleep in class without being chastised for it.
We were very pleased to find the School is being well cared for. I hope it stays around for another 120 years.

Are our two cats allowed?

I'm sorry for the delay in responding. We just got access with the transition to new ownership. We do not allow pets for a number of reasons (guest allergies, possible room damage, wear and tear, the cost for additional cleaning, etc.). The only exception we make is for certified service animals. Sorry......
