A peaceful wooded repose--that's what my husband I enjoyed at High Country Inn near Orofino, Idaho. Our hostess, Jo Moore, welcomed us and gave us the liberty of the place which has a game room, hot tub, nearby trails, and lots of recreational opportunities just a few minutes away. Jo herself might be considered an amenity with a lifelong interest in nature, reading, cooking, service, and community. The time we spent with her added to our enjoyment of High Country Inn.
Not enough can be said about the High Country Inn and Jo! The place is top notch quality in building and provisioning, wonderfully kept and cozy. My wife and I needed a little time off from a very busy year and we chose here…it was perfect! The cabins are well built and well insulated. The porch is super inviting and relaxing! The main lodge is naturally welcoming and spacious. She makes you feel at home and like you are at your own Grandma's house and table as she waits on you while serving a phenomenal breakfast! We would love to stay here over and over again! Thank you Jo for everything!
What a beautiful environment! It’s a rustic environment on mountain side away from town with plenty of trees and fresh air. Our first impression was welcoming and before long we felt like family. Our room, the Ponderosa Pine in the main lodge, was clean and comfortable with queen size bed and door to the patio with wonderful view. We didn't have a chance to use the hot tub, however it looked so inviting tucked into a charming nook in the side yard. Mostly we enjoyed the delicious breakfasts and company provided by Jo. What a cook! as well as an interesting and inspiring lady.
From the very first welcome by Jo to the goodbye, our stay was wonderful! The High Country Inn is a beautiful, relaxing, pampering place to spend several nights. The views are incredible and so enjoyable to sit outside on the patio. We stayed in The Moose Room which was most comfortable and the bathroom had plenty of space. Jo has thought of everything. Speaking of Jo, she's one incredible lady! Our breakfasts were delicious each morning with a combination of homemade cinnamon rolls, apple muffins, eggs, bacon, gravy & biscuits... We didn't even need to eat lunch!! Our stay here was delightful and sweet Jo was warm and hospitable. We highly recommend this place when you're in Idaho.
Such a welcoming and comfortable stay. We were looking for someting a little different for our family get together and this was just what we wanted. Jo is an absolutely wonderful person and a pleasure to get to know. Her breakfast was wonderful!! The scones were my personal favorite!
My wife and I spent last weekend (end of September 2020) at the High Country Inn to celebrate her birthday! It was a wonderful stay! We booked two nights in the Black Bear Den, one of the two rooms in the Wilderness Cabin and found it to be super clean and very comfortable. The lodge decor furniture was very substantial (high quality) and attractive. The cabin's porch was a nice place to sit and enjoy a couple glasses of wine and appreciate the peace and quiet of the location. We explored the hills above Orofino and, at the owner's suggestion, made the drive upstream along the Clearwater and the Lochsa. What gorgeous country! Jo Moore, the owner, is a delightful woman and we so loved chatting with her over the delicious breakfasts she provided each morning. We were truly impressed with her intellect and kindness, and appreciated how she made us feel welcome. When we left, I was frustrated with this darned Covid pandemic because I just felt like giving her a hug. This was our first stay at the High Country Inn but it will definitely not be our last! In fact, the large cabin sleeps nine people and we are thinking this would be the perfect place for a large family gathering.…
I've stayed at High Country many times since my honeymoon and I always feel like I'm visiting family. No matter if I'm playing pool, sitting in the hot tub, throwing horse shoes or enjoying fantastic meals at the lodge, they always make sure we're comfortable and happy. Close to the lake, town and the Clearwater river. This is my favorite getaway of the year.
Jo met us after dark to help us get to our cabin. An added amenity was the free breakfast. Jo is an excellent cook. Her cinnamon rolls were to die for. All her meals were excellent. The cabin was spotless and very clean. Having a fire pit and horseshoe pit was a added feature. The game room had a great pool table and electronic darts. Sunrise and sunset from the deck was beautiful. Jo was very knowledgeable about the area, for fishing, boating , trails etc.. You couldn’t have asked for a more perfect place to stay!!!
We stayed for 3 days while we were fishing at Dworshak Reservoir and our stay here was spectacular. We had a gourmet breakfast provided each morning and Grandma Jo fixed a superb pork loin dinner on Saturday night with all the homemade fixing. If you are looking for a great experience with your family I would highly recommend staying at The High Country Inn.
We spent 4 days at the high country inn while steelhead fishing the clearwater. Jo the owner was the most accommodating and provided the best hospitality we've had in a long time! The cabin was warm, very clean, and nice. All the handmade furniture made the experience even more relaxing after a long day of fishing. There is a game room with pool table and lots of games. There are outside activities, camp fire, horseshoe games and hot tub. The views from the cabin were beautiful and serene. We are looking to go back every year for our annual fish trip and will be staying here. 5 Stars for sure!
