Spent four days in Xela visiting a relative and needed a comfortable, place to stay. The rooms were a bit musty and the beds were rock hard. They charged for more than a single bottle of water a day, which was a suprise. Breakfast was good and the staff was very pleasant and helpful. Understand that you are in Xela... More

Nearly everything was wonderful at the Hotel Modelo. The staff were extremely gracious and helpful. We were provided unlimited pure drinking water which was greatly appreciated. The dining area was a great example of classic Xela charm. Breakfast was delicious with many great options and service was outstanding all around. The wi-fi generally worked well in the halls and lobby... More

the modelo is an ideal choice for Xela. as a family of 4 we had enormous adjoining rooms with 4 beds and it included a wonderful breakfast at a very modest price. the hotel is the oldest continually operating hotel in Guatemala and has been in the same family for generations. it is perfectly located with numerous good dining options... This hotel has been operated by a family for three generations, and is a great place to stay in Xela (also known as Quetzaltenango). The rooms are spacious and clean, and have recently added flat screen TV's and upgraded amenities. The included breakfasts are very good and made to order (eggs, bacon, sausage, omelets, fresh juices, fresh fruit, yogurt, etc.).... More

I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to stay in a top of the top hotel. The people that work there really make a you feel important, from the bellboy Jose(who by the way speaks very fluent English) to the family that has been running this nice hotel for years will make you feel very well at home.The... I've been travelling for 5 months now and wanted a place to relax and regroup before getting back on the backpacker trail. Hotel Modelo was the perfect haven. The staff are so friendly and attentive and are always smiling. The breakfast selection is extensive and very tasty and the rooms are spotlessly clean. If you're looking for modern, chic rooms... Hotel Modelo is a simply gorgeous, elegant hotel (at a very reasonable price) - the artwork and furniture, the accommodations - spectacular. Breakfast is included in the price. The owners are something like 3rd generation and take great pride in their hotel. The sense of family while there is evident, though it's easy to keep a low profile and relax... More

It is not the Holiday Inn, but if you want a centrally located old world charm of a hotel, here it is. I've known the place for 20 years now. It is not totally soundproof from the street or the staff talking in the morning, but I do love the place. It is more expensive than it was and the... More

Modelo was one of Xela's most elegant hotels at the beginning of the 20th century. Today, thanks to good management by family ownership it retains much of its classic charm and efficiency. Of course, today there is the noise of traffic to bear. Select a room if possible not facing the front of the hotel. The dining room serves just... More

We stayed in room 7. It has a queen bed. Firm yes, the floor would as soft. Bass from a nearby disco was problematic. It was no problem being by the kitchen we eliminated all the street noise. The problem with the high windo mentioned in another review is exaggerated. Clean and retro would recommend. Test the beds first
