#3 of 43 Specialty lodging in Quetzaltenango
Kasa Kiwi is Quetzaltenango's newest hostel! Classic hostel in the historic center with 5 private rooms, 3 dorm rooms and No Bunk Beds! We are super central (2 blocks from Parque Central), super safe (lockers in all dorms), super friendly, and super clean (communal bathrooms cleaned 2x per day). We have a lovely patio surrounded by plants and flowers and a roof terrace with craft beer and wine bar with 360 views of the city and surrounding mountains.

The staff members were friendly and helpful, and location wise you have a great home base to explore the city and surrounding area. However, the wifi is pretty bad/fluctuating in quality and it came with the big caveat that a few other guests and I got bedbugs. We brought it up with the staff and they definitely tried to get rid of them, just not hard enough. We told them all the bedding had to be machine washed and/or dried (or at the very least cleaned with boiling water) but they just didn't do it. I don't want to blame the staff too much as they really were lovely. I just wish they'd put in a little more effort as I still had bedbugs after more than a week there and it really put a damper on my stay in Xela. If it weren't for their failing to get rid of the bedbugs I'd have rated this hostel as very good.

I mean for Q35 a night, it is hard to find a better price. The place is decent. Nice rooftop bar, ok kitchen, and for the price, you wouldnt expect much from the rooms. You would expect them to be at least be somewhat clean though. Stayed 1 night in a 10 bed dorm, which had a private bathroom, but the U-bend of the sink was disconnected so all the water just went on the floor. Upgraded to a private room. It was fine for the price. However, there were peanuts on the floor. As I am rather allergic to peanuts, this wasn't ideal. What else hadn't they cleaned? The towels for one. Questionable, unidentified items on the towels. When we arrived, we didn't know how to enter. I ringed the doorbell many times to no reply. Finally found the secret latch, entered and there were 2 men at reception, seemingly too lazy to come answer the door. Overall, not great, too dirty but for a backpacker on a budget, guess it does the job.

Dirty rooms, very loud, cold dirty showers. Weird atmosphere in the place. However it is very cheap, okish location and good for organising transport out of Xela (which is overrated and would avoid if I were you, stay in Antigua!)

Wonderful location just a few steps from Parque Central. Great selection of tours and hike directly from the hostel. They do business with Monte Verde agency and charge a little more that they do for some activities so you might want to check with them first. Nice bar at the top. You don’t hear the music in your room but the road is relay loud. Very comfy beds. The shower definitely lacks power and hot water ! I would recommend this hostel for your stay in Xéla !

I stayed at the Hostel in Aug. 2018 for two weeks with my three adult age children. It is a wonderful hostel, with clean nice facilities, and friendly helpful staff and owners. The rooftop terrace (and bar evenings until l10 pm) is a nice perk for most, although the music does travel down into the rest of the hostel. Nevertheless, it was almost impossible for me to hear the music my room, which was one floor below roof level. Staff was available at registration desk until past 10 (until bar patrons are gone) and they can book you on trips. They appear to have done a good job vetting the trip organizers they work with, as I witnessed one who they rejected giving them a hard time. Some aspects of their website are outdated -- e.g. there are no longer bikes on premises (and biking in the area appears pretty treacherous to me). Other things in the facility are improving, as the owners appeared to want to maintain and improve the hostel. The kitchen was simple but was kept meticulously clean (like the rest of the hostel), and has a nice balcony off of it, making dining an extra nice experience. We used it a lot. I hope to return.
