Detailed Reviews
We stayed 3 nights at this hotel and loved every moment of our time at lake Atitlan. The gardens are spectacular, the hotel has the best views on any hotel in that area! The rooms were comfortable and beautiful and the overall experience at this hotel made you feel like you were on a tropical island somewhere. The restaurant and bar were wonderful and very relaxing. We could not fault this hotel and there amazing staff.
We were only 5 minutes ride into town on a TUCTUC which we loved taking and using to get around and they were so cheap. Book this hotel, you won't regret it!

Accommodation: We booked a suite with a lake view. The room was very spacious, and we enjoyed the view from our balcony in the mornings. The bed is so comfortable. It provided the support we needed after our bodies were so sore after trekking Volcan Acatenango. Loved that a huge container of filtered water was in our room, so that we did not have to worry about buying bottled water on site or in town.
Property: The hotel grounds are breathtaking. The gardens are so beautiful, from flowers and fruits growing around the hotel, we could get lost in them and enjoy every sight. We loved soaking in all of the views of Lake Atitlan while relaxing by the pool and jacuzzi, which are both climate controlled. Just be aware that after hours to bring your own towels from your room.
Service: Everyone is warm and welcoming. They greet you upon passing to make you feel at home. Special shout out to Julio, the man who helped accommodate us with everything! He carried our bags as soon as we entered the property all the way to our rooms, gave us information about our room, the general directions of what facilities were on the property, gave us private tuk tuk ride into town/boat launch, and helped arrange transport back to Antigua.
Restaurant: Special shout out to Carlos, who was always excited to serve us in the restaurant and at the pool. Service was always fast at the restaurant. I read previous reviews that restaurant service was slow, but we did not experience that. Since the hotel is a 20 minute walk from the main strip in town, or a 5 min tuk tuk ride, we were often too tired to venture out into town. Luckily the hotel restaurant offers great options. I was impressed that the quality of the food was amazing! I tried the Mayan egg dish and the chilequiles for breakfast. The chilequiles were the best I've ever had, I had them twice here. For dinners, I had the beef fajitas, beef pepian, and coconut shrimp. All SO good. The beef was always tender. My boyfriend loved the chicken fajitas. We only had lunch once at the hotel restaurant, and we wished had lunch more often on site because the lunch offerings actually looked better than dinner. Loved the taquitos. Also, the cocktails are great, specifically the Maracuya Sol and Volcanico. The cocktails are a bit pricy, I think relative to the same price back home (Greater New York City area). This was not a concern for us since we were celebrating our birthdays, but for others on a budget, just be aware of that.
I highly recommend staying here if you are planning to visit Lake Atitlan.

Absolutely stunning hotel with a breathtaking pool, garden and interior. We had a beautiful stay here and enjoyed every aspect. The property itself is stunning. Every time we entered, it was just as impressive and it is beyond well maintained.
We spent many hours relaxing by the pool which was surprisingly quiet and easy to find a chair. It was also easy to leave the hotel for tours around lake Atitlan by tuk tuk or by asking the water taxi to drop you off at the hotel dock (usually would have to pay an extra ~10Q).
Rooms were simple, but clean and comfortable. The drinks served by the pool were delicious and the lunch / snacks served were great.
My only suggestion would be that the front desk could be more helpful in guiding guests to local attractions / giving advice and direction. When we spoke to the desk they heavily sold their own tours that they operated but were not very helpful when we asked about advice / recommendations about external tours.

This hotel is one of the most beautiful hotels I ever stayed at. The rooms are big and beautifully decorated, overall the hotel is very very beautiful and clean, the food is amazing, the pool and Jacuzzi overlooking the volcanoes is fantastic. I highly recommend this hotel. With tuk tuk it costs about one USD to go to the center of the town, and it takes about seven minutes. The town center is very crowded and busy so it’s really nice that this hotel it’s away from all that crowd and noises and at the same time not far away.

We didn't feel especially welcomed here. In general, there was little warmth or hospitality from the front desk staff. No discussion of the hotel lay-out, etc.
The hotel has beautiful grounds (though they are a bit over manicured IMO). The rooms are comfortable and spacious and have private balconies overlooking the gardens and the lake. Great for birding. The evening restaurant staff was very professional and kind. Some good menu items, such as the corn chowder and some of the salads. Good cheesecake.
Another issue was that continental breakfast was not included in our room rate, which was about $250, so it seems miserly not to include it. Continental breakfast is about $10, while the full buffet breakfast is about $22. These are very high prices!
Plus, there is no coffee or tea in the rooms. Less expensive hotels even provide this.
This hotel mainly caters to large tour groups, and the staff has an enormous amount of work to do cleaning rooms and changing sheets and towels, as the groups seem to stay only one or two nights. Most of the staff was very kind and helpful. However, the front desk receptionist left us cold even at our parting from the hotel.

We stayed 6 nights from Jan 31 2020.
Our room was pretty standard but clean and well maintained. The gardens are definitely one of the highlights of this retreat, they go on and on all beautifully maintained. We are not necessary foody people, let's face it we all have to eat. The restaurant at this hotel was amazing,we pretty much covered the menu in our time there and each meal had it's own unique taste and flavors. Realizing food is subjective this was by far some of the best food we have had in our travels. And the prices were reasonable. The pools were large with great views of the lake. The staff was very gracious and ever helpful. Definitely a place to return to.

I had a wonderful experience at Hotel Atitlan. The decor of the entire hotel is beautiful. There are two phenomenal gardens on the property. Since the hotel is on the lake, the views are beautiful and it’s easy to access boats. What sets this hotel apart, however, is the hardworking staff. I was lucky enough to spend two nights here. On my first night, I went to the pool for sunset. I could not believe what incredible service was provided by Teodoro Ajquijay. I asked him his name so that I could acknowledge him in my review. I have never seen a more hard-working, dedicated server. The pool area was quite busy, and he quickly and effectively managed multiple tables, provided towels, cleaned the area and helped take photos when asked. When I moved into the dining room for dinner, I was even more impressed by his service. He is truly an outstanding server. When I went to breakfast the next morning, he took care of my table, with the same great professional service as the night before. Bravo, Teodoro Ajquijay, my experience with you changed my review of the hotel from 4 stars to 5!

Ideally located on the lake this is a very pleasant hotel. It does most things really well. The room was large, two double beds, good sized bathroom and patio out to the amazing gardens with a view over that fantastic lake with the volcanoes in the distance. Breakfast had the best selection of the whole holiday with pastries, fresh cooked omelette and other eggs. Everyone was very pleasant but I guess it just lacks a bit of character, that shouldn’t put you off and I would strongly recommend getting a tuc tuc into town for dinner and lunch where the is a great selection of restaurants.

This is a lovely hotel, but there are drawbacks.
The setting, in the gardens, by the lake, is beautiful. The room we had was very nice and we especially appreciated the drinking water dispenser that was filled up each day.
The drawbacks: well breakfast was pretty grim to be honest, a ropey fruit selection, luke warm sausages seemingly from a tin, scrambled egg that had been through more than one scrambling, etc. The couple of times we were at the restaurant other than that it was fine, nothing special.
But all the while you're affronted by this aviary they've stuck on the side of the eating area. A good hundred or so small birds, canaries and the like, desperate to get out and screeching away while you enjoy your...chicken, yes I admit there's hypocrisy here. All the same this aviary isn't what you want while the gardens right next to it are filled with birds enjoying their freedom.
The other problem is the noise. The hotel has a quite heavily used helipad so you're often hearing that. The size of the gardens means there's always somebody mowing or blowing something. There's a road close by that seems to attract lorries and buses even during the night. And - not the hotel's fault - there was some kind of all-day festival in the village down the road that gifted us loud pop nonsense from about 10am to 12pm on our Saturday there, defeating the hotel bar's fey covers of Why Does It Always Rain On Me and so on.
It sounds like moaning and I suppose it's moaning. I just wanted to ground anyone who's thinking they'll have an idyllic time here - again, in many ways it's lovely, it's just in some ways it's a right pain in the hoop.

This is such a beautiful, special hotel! From the moment we walked in we were in awe. The rooms are very nice and comfortable, and the lake/volcano views spectacular. The grounds are magnificent and beautifully maintained. The pool was nice with beautiful views of the lake.
Cons: Meals at the hotel are expensive and good, but not great. No coffee in the rooms, and unless the overpriced buffet is purchased, breakfast is not avail a la carte at the hotel restaurant. The hotel is a bit remote, so while the walk into town is doable, the reasonably priced tuk-tuks are the better option for most.
Overall, very special and highly recommended, but would welcome a la carte breakfast, or minimally, coffee.

Elk Grove Village, Illinois294 contributions149 helpful votesWe are interested in this hotel, but the website has been down for several weeks.... doesn't make us feel confident booking here, since we avoid 3rd party bookings. Anyone stay here recently?
Yes, the gardens are open to the public and there is no fee. You can also enjoy eating at the restaurant which overlooks the pool, Lake Atitlan and the volcanos. Enjoy.
We rented an SUV and my friend is an excellent driver. If you rent a car travel during the day because of the mountains in Guatemala.
