I have so many good things to write about this wonderful hotel. The staff is so polite and friendly they really make you feel welcome! The rooms are modern and very comfortable (bathroom has a good size and it has a separate shower and bathtub) the food is amazing!!!(see pictures) I sadly stayed only for one night but I would definitely stay again at this hotel next time I comeback to beautiful Guatemala!
This is my second visit to the InterContintental--the first being four years ago and I'm pleased to see the hotel is still just as good and is definitely going to be your most comfortable hotel in the city. The hotel is in a great location in Zone 10 near the best shopping areas (Plaza Fontabella, Oakland Mall, etc) and also within 15 minutes of the airport which is very convenient. Decent rates and as an IHG Platinum member I was able to get a 2:00 PM checkout (although I had to request it, it wasn't automatically offered or mentioned.) The rooms are extremely comfortable--I love the bed! It's right up there (almost) with a Four Seasons' bed--seriously--great sheets, super comfortable mattress. Excellent cleanliness and nice marble bathroom. I have to say I didn't like the new brand of bathroom amenities (Cava) which seem to have replaced the usual InterContinental-line of Agraria amenities. These new ones definitely don't smell that great. Not a big deal, I suppose. The towels were some of the best I have seen in a hotel--including better than the Four Seasons hotels I have visited! (Not sure if it's just because they were new or if the hotel makes sure to have high quality towels but nonetheless I was quite impressed!) Air conditioning was adequate which is also very important. Hotel staff were mostly friendly--not overwhelmingly so though. The in-house Market Restaurant isn't anything great for dinner but does have pleasant staff. Food quality is low--maybe better for breakfast. The hotel probably could use some remodeling overall as it does seem a bit dark but nothing terrible by any means. There also doesn't seem to be bellboys on hand to help with luggage (except maybe if you ask--which seems strange for an InterContinental hotel.) All in all I would gladly recommend this hotel and will happily return to it.…
Professional staff, attractive & clean rooms, comfortable beds and pillows. Good showers. Quick drive from airport. Great for a late arrival into GC. Hotel arranged pickup at airport for $18. Easy check in and out. Didn’t get to try breakfast or explore the hotel but lobby and room were excellent. Stag friendly and efficient. Just stayed for quick overnight but very comfortable and would stay again. Recommend.
The personnel offers a 10 star quality service. They are extremely helpful, efficient and friendly. The hotel is spotless clean. The restaurant offers very good food. Breakfast includes an incredible buffet with all kinds of food. A chef cooks eggs to yor order, anyway you want them. The beds and pillows are incredible comfortable, with down duvets. I have traveled the world for over 50 years and an hotel like this is found only a few times.
Pros/Likes: - Fast check-in and check-out - Due to late arrival, requested airport car service pickup for the equivalent to 18 USD - Located in a nice hotel area in Zone 10, with some places to eat nearby and a short Uber ride to some traditional Guatemalan restaurants - Room was nice on the IHG Elite floor; unclear if given an upgrade (not a suite) due to my Platinum elite status (I didn't ask, I wasn't told) - Bed was wonderful though read con/dislike below about pillows - Empty mini-bar/fridge so perfect to put your own beverages in - Great wi-fi internet access - Coffee maker but had no tea bags, just coffee - Complimentary bottles of water though unclear if due to my elite status - Nice robes though no slippers - Plenty of accessible electric outlets and two USB charging ports - Lots of TV channels - Two ATM machines on-site, one 5B and one from a bank - On-site gift shop with souvenir options - Was given 600 welcome amenity points (I guess for being Platinum elite) though was not given options - Scheduled COVID-19 rapid testing on-site at the hotel the day before my check-out for the equivalent to 37 USD - Staff were really nice Cons/Dislikes: - Pillows were too soft to my liking - No plastic/disposable cups, only mugs and glasses Neutral: - Had room service twice, both times took longer to deliver than was told and the food was so-so (one was a seafood spaghetti that had three closed clams and two small pieces of squid though did have some shrimp and mussels) - Room had a scale but was off by several kilos/pounds - The A/C did not to cool enough at times - Building and décor give a sense of glamour past but a refresh would bring it back to its former glory - Stay was for one paid night and three free certificate nights under one bill but IHG points did not post to my account for the paid night instead incorrectly showing as "non-qualifying stay" so had to call IHG Rewards customer service to fix/post the missing points Miscellaneous, all open (did not try): - Large pool looked nice - Large gym with cardio, weight machines, and free weights - Spa with facials/massages/body treatments Impression: Great stay in Zone 10…
Excellent hotel: clean, updated, extremely friendly and helpful staff, all the amenities you need. By far the best hotel in the city! The staff is eager to help and follows through. The Market has great food and beverages, Sophia was awesome and made sure the coffee never ran out!
Since we entered everything impeccable, the place is beautiful, excellent setting and decoration. The food has a very good flavor, variety of textures, temperatures and perfectly decorated. We were served by Cesia, excellent service, I recommend the restaurant, definitely.
The hotel is in a great location, has great food, and a great pool/gym deck. The rooms are nice, but tired, especially the carpeting throughout the hotel, and the ht water was all over the place. The staff is respectful and offers help, but doesn’t follow through. Greater levels of training are needed and I believe are coming. Even with needed improvements, this is one of the best hotels in the city. I heard far worse stories from associates staying in other hotels. The shining star here is the food and wait staff. Gourmet food from the Markets daily breakfast and late night dining to the Tanoshii sushi resteraunt. AMAZING!
This was our second time in Guatemala City. The first time was just an overnight before an early flight, and we stayed at the luxurious Hilton in Zona 10. This time we decided to spend two nights in the city to do a little exploring, so we wanted something in a more central location. With its #1 ranking on TripAdvisor, the Intercontinental Real seemed like the perfect choice—and the rate was very reasonable for an Intercontinental hotel. We prearranged private airport pickup with the hotel as their complimentary shuttle is not currently running due to Covid. It was a very quick drive from the airport, less than 15 minutes at about 4:30 p.m. on a Friday. It was the lightest traffic we’ve seen in our three trips to Guatemala. The handsome lobby creates a good first impression, but we couldn’t help but notice that some lights were off in unused spaces, the cafe had been shut down, and there were few people in sight. The front desk clerk was welcoming and efficient. Our room was on the 11th floor (a Club level floor) but the lounge on the 15th floor was not accessible, another casualty of Covid, I assume. The room was modern and clean but devoid of much character. The view was of an office building. All decorative soft goods had been removed, and there were no reading materials, pen and paper, glasses, ice bucket, etc. The ottoman for the chair had some questionable stains on it. The bathroom was bright and clean but also strangely devoid of any decoration: absolutely nothing on the walls. While it appeared to be fairly recently updated, there was no exhaust fan, and the tub was an older style enamel model with a shower curtain. The towels were of good quality, and we liked the Agraria toiletries. A quick tour around the property revealed a well appointed gym and an attractive pool on the fifth floor terrace. Probably due to Covid, all of the seating cushions had been removed, which unfortunately detracted from the overall ambience. We had dinner at the hotel’s main restaurant, The Market, on our first night. The atmosphere was odd (attractive furnishings and decor, but loads of artificial flowers, and discordant American pop music blaring). Service was painfully slow—so bad we almost got up and left. We ordered typical Guatemalan turkey soup (“kak-ik”), a green salad, and a margarita pizza. The soup was delicious and a meal unto itself. The salad was drowned in too much syrupy sweet strawberry vinaigrette. The margarita pizza was good—too large for one person though. Our cocktails (a negroni and a spicy margarita) were just okay. Not sure why the restaurant is so highly rated on TripAdvisor… We also had breakfast at The Market both mornings because it was included in our room rate. It was very busy with families and business people alike. We were quickly brought decent coffee and freshly squeezed juices (I recommend the “jugo verde”). The breakfast was a buffet, but the staff handles the food—you just point and choose. There were made-to-order omelettes, lots of fresh fruit, pastries, meats and cheeses, yogurt parfaits, and typical savoury Guatemalan options. Service was much better at breakfast. We used the house car service a few times for transportation to the Centro Historico and a restaurant, but the rates were incredibly high: 170 quetzals to the restaurant, compared to 34 quetzals with Uber for our return. It was just a standard minivan (not a luxury vehicle), so I don’t understand the inflated cost. Overall we enjoyed our stay, and the Intercontinental Real suited our needs for this trip. I’m not sure if we would stay here again on a future visit though, as we found it a little lacking in character and luxury. It’s not quite at the level of other Intercontinental hotels at which we’ve stayed but, to be fair, it’s not charging those rates either.…
The Intercontinental has an incredible staff, from the front desk to the restaurant. Iris Morales is particularly attentive and very kind. The staff remember your name and make it feel like home. The staff are constantly available to fix any issues that arise and communicate well with each other. I will continue to stay here in the future.
