Wow, this place is really different. I walked from the bus stop with my suitcase and actually thought the locals were joking when they told me to keep walking down this road that seemingly leads towards a forest to find the hostel.. but it turns out they weren't! This place is super nice and hidden away so it's very peaceful and quiet. The sleeping pods are super cool and there was less than four of us staying in the whole room so I had a great sleep. They have the cutest parrot outside which was my favorite part! The owners are lovely and I had great chats with them. They also paid for my taxi to the Guatemala ferry which was the nicest touch. I would recommend this place to anyone who goes to Punta Gorda, it's a great experience :)

Just finishing a 6 night stay in Punta Gorda, Belize.
We stayed at the hotel (guesthouse) called a Piece of Ground. We enjoyed our stay here so much. Highly recommend this place.
Firstly, the owners, Jamma and Germaine and their two little kids, went out of their way to help us. Drove us to the local stores so we could stock up on groceries and Beliken, offered to pick us up at the bus station (but it was only a 2 block walk), drove us to the ferry when leaving to Honduras, gave us all the info we needed to explore the area.
Secondly, the guesthouse. It consists of 4 rooms each with 1 double bed, air conditioning, TV with all channels, private bath, fully tiled, very clean, wardrobe for your bags and clothes. Everything you need in a room. But what makes A Piece of Ground very special are the 2 communal floors above the rooms. One floor has a big, well equipped kitchen with full size fridge and stove, eating bar, washer and dryer (wow, unheard of), and a pool table (the best pool table of any guesthouse in Belize)! We hung here alot to recoup after a hectic month in Belize.
The top floor is a rooftop sun deck with hammocks, great for those looking for a tan. The views from both common floors are fabulous - mountains and ocean.
The price is very fair for everything that a Piece of Ground offers.
We`ve travelled much of the world for the last 10 years, and this is one of our top accommodations ever.

I absolutely fell in love with the place. It was peaceful clean and beautiful overall. The rooms were spacious and equipped with air conditioning, ceiling fans, and cable television. The bathrooms were nice and clean with stand up shower.I loved the kitchen and lounge area most because the view of the hills and trees were breathtaking. I enjoyed several mornings journaling, reading and lazing in the hammocks. It was beautiful! The host was amazing and taught us a lot about the foods, land, culture and sites. I fell in love with the place and intend to return sooner than later. I would love to bring my children next time :)

A group of us stayed here for a week and had a great experience. The rooms were clean and each had a private bathroom. Each room has a ceiling fan, air conditioner, tv, and hot water. There is a restaurant on the top floor that sells the best fried chicken and chicken sandwiches. The owners were great and the hotel manager catered to our every need. It is a little of the beaten path, but that is what I liked about it. It sits next to the jungle and we saw monkeys and various birds during our stay. There are hammocks on the 3rd floor that made for a wonderful spot to relax. I will definitely stay here again.

We ended up not staying here as it was so expensive. $19 us dollars for a dorm bed! This was the most expensive we have found in the whole of Belize. The place looked beautiful and had a great vibe but far far too expensive.

we are currently trying to figure out how to avoid this kind of situation! we realize there are a large population of "travelers" who have no interest in the living conditions of the people who reside in the "3rd world" countries they visit. in the periphery there are all these "poor" people living in these messed up conditions but alas there is a silver lining to all this 3rd world suffering..... stuff is cheap i mean really cheap, like i dont know how someone can survive making this kind of money cheap. i mean i would imagine these people would live like the people on the for just 20 cents a day commercial cheap, you know flies buzzing and garbage all over.......wait it is that place... but did i mention cheap? you are from England, the place that colonized Belize the place that even today is the beneficiary of the resources of Belize, you cant see the arrogance of not wanting to inject some of your first world resources into the communities ravaged by colonialism? you cant see how much of an opportunist you are in not only expecting, an unfair price but demanding it? and rating as place terrible because its air conditioned pod is $19 a night. $19 bucks? i know it would be a bargain where you come from but you probably see the people in your community as human and deserving, your avatar name is natty..lol. are you a rastadontwasteyourmoneyonthosepplefarian?

A great place to stay and relax on the south side of Punta Gorda. Clean room with a restaurant ( a Piece of Chicken) on top with pool table. Saw monkeys and a view of the sea from the top floor. Loved just relaxing on the top floor.

Thoroughly enjoyed my stay at A Piece of Ground. Great accommodations, great views, extremely pleasant and welcoming hosts. The amenities were a great plus for our family because we were able to prepare our own meals which was a great cost savings for my family, which allowed us to treat ourselves to a great meal at Gomeier's Restaurant during our stay. An added plus was having use of their FREE laundry facilities. My family and I will always stay here whenever we visit Belize.

Great place to stay outside the busier city center. The hosts were extremely helpful, welcoming and accommodating. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. Kitchen, lounge area and sun deck are great for socializing, relaxing and enjoying the views. Rooms and baths are all modern and convenient. Good safe location. Love the country, love the place. If you're visiting I highly recommend A Piece of Ground. We'll visit again!

The rooms were really comfortable and the AC made sleeping through humid nights a snap. My trip to the Garifuna Village was the best. My guide knew the folks and made it easy for me to feel welcomed.
I was in the south looking for property. Although I didn't find what I was looking for at the time, I do know that when I go back, I'll certainly make A Piece of Ground my base of operations again!

i already want to go back for another chicken burger! if your not staying in the hotel just go to taste the amazing food being chefed up upstairs, and while you wait play pool, chess or cards and relax! meet new people. we really loved staying at a piece of ground, and just wish we had found it sooner. we were only there for one night but would have stayed longer. the rooms are small but clean with ac, tv and wifi. though we were barely in the room it was just what we needed for a comfortable nights sleep!
