Of the many vacations my husband and I have been on over the past 20 plus years, visiting the Toledo District and staying at Hickatee Cottages stands out as one of the best! Both Allison and Eduardo were the most gracious and accommodating hosts of this gem of a place during our visit to PG. Always available to provide insight and assistance in our daily adventures, to offering a great afternoon cocktail and the best morning coffee ( french press no less) and breakfast, they made our stay in PG a memorable one. Our dinner, when requested, was expertly prepared and served. The honeymoon cottage we stayed in was private, immaculate and spacious, in a jungle setting with howler monkeys singing in the background..what more can one ask for? At the end of our vacation, my husband commented that what made this vacation so special was coming home to Hickatee after a day of exploring PG and the surrounding areas. So true and we will be return!

Everything was very clean. The couple who run the cottages are very welcoming and helpful to make everything enjoyable. The dinner options are delicious and recommended! Also the Wednesday night garifuna drumming is a very special, personal performance that teaches you much about the culture. We recommend to couples looking for quiet and adventures!

our third stay at Hickatee Cottages and Eduardo and Alli. are great hosts giving their guests a great location to unwind after all the adventuring that is possible in the Toledo district of Belize. Located just outside Punta Gorda they have a wonderful location and setting, nestled in the jungle just outside of PG proper. The buildings are up to date, lovingly furnished, and well looked after. Still techicnally off the grid, power is provided by a state of the art Solar Array, power is not an issue, we should know we have many cameras to recharge. Meals are expertly prepared, sourced locally and the fresh baking done here is just marvelous. Wifi is fast, the grounds are well looked after, there is even a plunge pool for the really hot days. They have bicycles on site for the guests to use, and the local resturants are great. There are many adventures waiting for you in the Toledo district, Cacao farms, Mayan villages experiences, ruins and river adventures, birding and butterflies .. then there is the fishing and diving .. there is so much to do down in this part of the country, often overlooked by tourists as it is so laid back and does not appear to offer anything to do, this could not be further from the truth ..There is a private Butterfly farm that you can only see if you stay here, it was overwhelming, and on Wednesday evenings they have druming lessons there are Cacao farms to watch how chocolate is really made, there is a lot to do in the Toledo district in southern Belize, the roads are okay to drive for the most part so if you are as adventurous as we are then do a self drive rental. We enjoy our times at Hickatee they are very relaxing and quiet. If you are looking for a raucous night life this might be the place but for everything else it is great. There are many things to do in this end of the country so come down and find out what we have found .. Hickatee is a hidden gem and we will return next year

We stayed for three nights at Hickatee Cottages. Eduardo and Allison were some of the best hosts I have ever come across in Belize or the dozens of other countries I have travelled to. They made sure we were comfortable and helped us arrange some activities, giving us options across price and comfort ranges. Allison even called ahead to places we were visiting to let them know we were arriving. I can’t say enough about the care and attention they gave us - it’s rare to experience the authenticity and generosity that this couple exudes. One note: if you’re curious about Belizean rum, get one of Eduardo’s tastings. In terms of facilities, the cottages are very well maintained and comfortable. Bonus: they are off the grid and try hard to minimize their impact on this planet, but it did not interfere with the comfort of the accommodations (unless you need AC). The location is a mile or so out of town - we used the free bikes to get into town. If you don’t have a car or can’t bike it might be a bit tough, but I assume Eduardo and Allison would make things happen for you. By far, the best accommodations we had In Belize and they were NOT the most expensive, by a long shot. When we go back to PG, we will stay here again without a thought.

Do not let the rough road faze you as the bumps and shakes will all be worth it. Eduardo and Allison are the most accommodating couple that you could ever meet. From the first warm welcome to the last sad goodbye, they couldn't do enough to make our stay more enjoyable. Their knowledge and love of the area is so evident and they are so willing to share that knowledge and arrange tours that were of particular interest to us. Eduardo was always there to greet us at the end of our day and willingly listened to our excited retelling of the adventures we had. The meals at Hickatee can only be described as INCREDIBLE. We always forced ourselves (Ha! Ha!) to finish our meals as we had filled ourselves full of Allison's wonderful bread and buns at the beginning. One of the local restaurants that we tried was Waluco's. Excellent shrimp and very reasonable prices! Maybe you will be as fortunate as us to have the Howler monkeys visit nearby as they noisily disrupted the peace and quiet of the rainforest. Thank you, Allison and Eduardo and boys. It was our pleasure to have met you and stayed at Hickatee Cottages.
