This is one of those Very Special Places that you remember for years. How many years? Well, we last visited 22 years ago and just went back with our 2 teenagers. The lodge is in the midst of primary rainforest and miles away from anything. You surrender your car keys upon arrival and check in to your gorgeous cabana with a wraparound porch from which to watch wild turkeys and deer, howler monkeys and toucans. Each day you can go out hiking on one of many trails where you get followed by a family of spider monkeys. We even saw a puma one day! This is THE place to go if you appreciate wildlife in the actual wild. There are tours and trips you can take also. I recommend the nighttime drive - which feels like an Indiana Jones ride at Disney - and we saw fox, deer, an owl and other night birds on that ride. :) The Chan Chich lodge has its own restaurant and its excellent. The food was really awesome. We did breakfast and dinner and just had sandwiches or snacks that we brought in with us from a grocery store. There are no stores or restaurants on the property so come prepared. This place is amazing for adventure, relaxation, fun, culinary joy and amazement. You tend to meet a lot of birders there - people are friendly. At most hotels you ignore the other guests. Here guests are eager to share their wildlife sightings and the staff are also eager to share theirs too!! My whole family loves loves loves this place. If you go to Belize and skip Chan Chich - believe me - you would be missing out. Its incredible!!!…

See a side of Belize many people never get to experience! Wonderful stay with bird watching, a night time nature drive, an archeology tour, and so much more. The location is simply amazing- saw spider monkeys, howler monkey, deer, a tapir and so many beautiful birds!! Staff is knowledgeable and super attentive. Food and service were fantastic ! I regret we only planned 2 nights there. The road driving in is an adventure in itself. Be sure to tell your rental car company is you’re going there because you need a high clearance vehicle to make it. Highly recommend!

We (an older couple) spent four nights at Chan Chich in February 2023 and for us it was perfect in every way, beginning with the shuttles to/from Belize City which allowed us to see so much. The lodge itself is truly beautiful and the birding on the small manicured grounds was fantastic. Our cabana was idyllic. The food was fantastic. The jungle tours were wonderful as was the tour of Gallon Jug, and there are essentially unlimited opportunities for walking on your own. Perhaps most importantly, to a person, the people at Chan Chich were just the best. We stayed at a few 'high end' lodges on our trip and all of them were very nice (the people especially), but Chan Chich stands out as the absolute best of the lot. Overall, Chan Chich is the perfect place to stay if you want to experience the jungle and wildlife of Belize without sacrificing comfort.…

I can’t say enough good things about Chan Chich Lodge! For my husband and me it was one of the best trips we have ever experienced. The accommodations were very comfortable, the food was delicious, the setting was unbelievable- monkeys in the trees above our porch and many, many new and beautiful birds to add to our “life lists”. But above all were the people. Every single staff member was kind, helpful and very knowledgeable about the flora, fauna and history of the place. We highly recommend this lodge. One suggestion- charter a small plane and fly in. It’s not terribly expensive. There is a road but the last part of it is a long, bumpy gravel road.

To date, my trip to Chan Chich remains one of my most memorable travel experiences overall, and my favorite trip as a wildlife photographer. The staff are all incredibly friendly, personable, and really go out of their way to make the time spent with them ideal. The lodge itself feels like a paradise deep within the preserved jungle. The food was great (as were their unique cocktails!). They were very accommodating and flexible with tour options which is something that can be very hard to find as an individual wildlife photographer. Most places I've visited only offer group tours, or for an extra fee will offer individual tours but the time for the tour remains limited. Chan Chich allowed me to pay by the hour which is ideal for wildlife photography - what if we find something amazing (we did, a pair of ornate hawk eagles) that I want to spend an hour or two watching and photographing? It was no problem here, whereas many other places will allow me only a few extra moments here and there (while paying extra for a solo tour, and promising a generous tip). Overall I highly recommend Chan Chich to any traveler and am looking forward to returning!…

We recently spent three nights in a cabin at Chan Chich. The cabins are clean and comfortable. It’s hot in May, but the nights were cool enough to sleep comfortably. The food is straightforward, well prepared and extremely fresh. The staff is attentive, friendly and helpful. The birding exceeded our expectations. I’d go just for the birding, but the hikes, farm tour and archaeology tours were also excellent. The guides for every activity were solid, especially Luis. We didn’t see any big cats, though others did. I guess we’ll have to go back! Highly recommended for bird lovers and the adventurous.

Right in the middle of the Belize Maya Forest Reserve, it has its own private landing strip. Accommodations are casitas which are charmingly furnished, complete with bidets! No AC, but very good cross ventilation and ceiling fans above the beds make sleeping comfortable even with highs in the mid-90's (F). The food is excellent - such a surprise in the middle of the jungle. Levy, the nature guide conducted fun walks to see birds (so many different birds!), spider monkeys and howlers as well as medicinal plants and Mayan ruins. The lodge is situated at the site of the central plaza of a Mayan town. We also went on an evening drive when we spotted ocelots and a tapir. There were colorful ocellated turkeys everywhere, and lots of hummingbirds. Be sure to try the allspice iced tea.…

We had the most amazing time at Chan Chich Lodge. It is hard to describe just how magical it is here. If you are someone who loves nature it just doesn't get any better than this. We took a small private plane to Gallon Jug airstrip and then were picked up by a lodge employee and brought to this remote lodge. The food is absolutely delicious and so fresh- clearly prepared with love. The grounds are teeming with wildlife.... howler monkeys, spider monkeys, hummingbirds flitting around everywhere. At night it is otherworldly to wake to the sounds of the howlers calling back and forth to one another. The guided tours that the lodge offers are outstanding. We are a family of 4 with 2 teenagers and all of us were in awe by all we saw and learned; how to survive in the jungle off termites, where to find fresh water (inside a type of vine), how to cure various infections and ailments with roots and leaves of particular plants, how to suture a wound with ant heads! The guides were enthusiastic and so knowledgeable and clearly loved nature and conservation. To top all of this off we also got to see a puma jump from the jungle out into a clearing and take down a deer in front of us. It was about 10 minutes while the puma held the deer down by the neck and then dragged her off into the jungle pausing to look at us. Absolutely unforgettable! We also went on a day trip to the ATM caves- this was an amazing experience as well. Truly, if you are a nature lover/conservationist this is your place. You simply can't get better as far as wildlife viewing and conservation efforts than this place that sits amidst 30,000 acres of preserved rainforest and borders other preserved land in Guatemala and elsewhere in Belize. We would absolutely return and we have travelled far and wide. To say my teens were awed would even be an understatement. They will never forget Chan Chich. It is a place that will always be in my heart.…
