Detailed Reviews
Perfect place to get away from it all. Well maintained, just steps to the beach, and spacious for two people. Very comfortable little octo-cottage made of mahogany wood, with 8 sides the windows easily catch a breeze and we were comfortable without A/C in February. Nicoletta is an awesome host, very attentive and helpful. Very private property, always felt very safe (day and night), about 20 minute walk to Placentia village, and 10-20 minutes to several grocery stores. Appreciated the peace and tranquility and the many palm trees and tropical garden that shade the property nicely. The ocean was warm and crystal clear, a couple days with waves and several when it was completely calm.

The Colibri House is a true getaway. Close to everything but far enough away for the solitude we were looking for. We loved sitting on the deck and enjoyed the ocean views over coffee in the morning.
The house was clean, comfortable, and had all the necessities we needed.
Great communication from the hosts!
We hope to return in March!
Sunrise from the Colibri House!

Great location. Right off “the sidewalk” near the north end of town. Nice little secluded section of beach just for you. Quaint and cozy house with a great little veranda. Just be ready to go up/down something more like a ladder than stairs to get to the bedroom. Would stay here again.

We have just returned from our vacation in Belize part of which was a 14 night stay in Colibri House the 2nd and 3rd week in February. we had the good fortune to have a couple from British Columbia, Gary and Barbara below us all the time we stayed, great people with great values.
On our arrival from the UK via Belmopan, Stefano like with all of his guests greeted us and welcomed us to Placencia. At first i wondered what we had let ourselves into, a dark wooden timbered structure with personal belongings all around the house, things that have been collected over the years, books from previous guests, nicks and naks but they are all part of the features that make Colibre House a place you would want to come back too many times.
Situated in a great location only footsteps from the (not so well kept) beach and only a short walk to the village centre. Most of the information i could give would only duplicate this review so please read what most other guest have said. i did suggest to Stefano that a great tool for the house in the 21st century would be a small microwave and a new coffee perculator as most people have them at home and would find these items useful. AC is nearly installed but we would not have used this during our stay as there are so many windows and doors you never needed it.
I would recommend this holiday home to anyone.
My only negative is the barking of stray dogs during the night from the beach that have no owners this could last up to one and a half hours but their are homeless creatures all over the world and they just need a bit of love and some chicken ! If you stay here or any other place in Placencia you will find them part of your family for the entire stay of your vacation.
Nicoletta was available most day and could be found on the beach whilst Stefano was only telephone call away if ever needed.
Go to Mary's Kitchen Hut near the football field for great Plantain Chicken and Garlic Groper. The only problem with this is you will go once and will always want to keep going back.
Enjoy Belize, enjoy the people and relax.

Colibri House is a little slice of heaven in Placencia. The first joy is dealing with Stefano and Nicoletta - Stefano is incredibly welcoming, kind, informative and entertaining (as well as gregarious!) and makes staying at Colibri instantly relaxing. This includes his own annotated maps with info on the best places to go in Placencia.
Second, the house is wonderfully romantic. Designed and built by Stefano to withstand hurricanes, the octagonal wooden design also creates its own airflow, so you get gentle sea breezes to cool you while lying under the beautiful dark wood ceiling.
Finally, nothing can beat swinging on the hammocks overlooking the Caribbean, or sitting on the top balcony with a rum gazing at the stars.
Would definitely recommend for romantic retreat, while Placencia is great place to hang out.

Hi All! This is the first time I am answering to every Guest/Friend who have reviewed us in this Magic site called Tripadvisor. A Magic link that connect Rental Business, Travelers and Tourists of the whole Earth... Thank to All of you and to Tripadvisor our little business, the Colibri House has prospered for years being able to survive also in recent difficult times because of the terrible Global Economical meltdown... It has been taught to everybody but maybe all of us have reached to the end of that tunnel that badly hit many nice Families. I have always thought about all of you hoping that the nice people who have picked up our vacation rental to enjoy their holidays could make it as we have been able to make it until now. I am sincerely grateful to all of you... Now possibly all of us will have to fight again against new Economical Challenges plus the Global change of the weather, so weird and unpredictable here in Belize as in the rest of the World. But I am sure that all of us will be blessed and we will make it again!!! I have always thought that the Karma strongly linked to the Colibri House was good for us and for our Guests/Friends and I hope He helped you as He helped us... Just a thought after so many years (14...) I started this business with Nicoletta, when nobody here or at home in Italy could even think we could make it... I wanted to share it with All of you but now it is better if I will post it right the way!!!! If not I won't be so brave to do it!!!!!!!! ;o) I wish you all the best, grazie infinite.... Ciao! Stefano

One of the most charming places by the see I’ve ever seen. Colibri House combines Italian artistry and sense for design with all the natural beauty of Belize. The astonishing wooden two store building is surrounded by an elegant, small garden (with barbeque, cats and even iguanas) and is located direct on the beach!!! The view from the balcony is phenomenal! One can easily spent a whole day (week, month) lying in the hammock, enjoying the breeze and the peaceful world around.
Inside the house is as nice as outside. My family rented both units (up and downstairs) and we were extremely pleased with what we found there: comfortable beds, beautifully arranged living area, kitchenettes (equipped with all what is necessary for a pleasant and carefree holiday) and even small but highly interesting libraries.
I cannot wait to go back there!

Stayed for 2 weeks in Colibri House in Placencia . I was extremely happy with the service, location and accomodations provided by Nicoletta and Stefano .The balcony was an amazing spot to enjoy the sunrise in the morning with a cup of coffee .Spent several evenings laying in the hammock in the same spot with a beer .The kitchen there was a great place to prepare local fish and lobster purchased , quite reasonably I might add, at the dock just down the road .Pull on your swimsuit in the morning , no shoes or shirt needed , walk down to the beautiful white sand beach and blue flat sea in 1 minute .Then enjoyed a 45 minute walk down the beach daily to try and figure what I'd spend my day doing ....

We have stayed at the Colibri House a number of times in recent years, including a month long stay this past March. It is quaint, clean and comfortable with many of the ammenities of home. The house or the studio (we stayed in both) are perfectly suited for couples. Nicely located within walking distance of all there is to offer in Placencia yet not too close to the noise of bars. Just a few steps from the beach with a lovely view and nice breeze, the location always feels safe. The owners, Nicoletta and Stefano are both very delightful and accommodating. We feel as though Colibri is our home away from home as we make our annual pilgrimage to Placencia.

After numerous stays at our Placencia "home-away-from-home", we were excited to bring our first-time-in-Belize visitors for a weekend on the beach at Colibri House. The fascinating design and decor, the homey comfort, the beach just out the door, the location just outside the main bustle of the village - all added up to our visitors being charmed and comfortable. Colibri House is unique, and reflects the uniqueness of the owners, who are also the builders and designers. Both are well-traveled, and chose Placencia to create this wonderful gift to travelers. Right on the famous sidewalk "street", you can walk a few minutes into the village action, or park a car just a few steps away and drive; parking is easy in the village. You could cook meals in your kitchen at Colibri House, it's that well-equipped, but there are a lot of great restaurants in Placencia, from street-side treats and fun bars to world-class cuisine. We enjoyed our snacks (delicious freshly harvested and roasted Belizean cashews and peanuts come to mind) and drinks (fresh fruit utilized in various libations) while hanging out on the decks and in the hammocks, but besides brewing some good Belizean coffee in the morning we did no cooking. Grocery type stuff, and more importantly, liquor and wine and beer, are readily available at the store near the entrance to Colibri's driveway - but the store closes at 9 pm, so purchase the nightcap provisions for your late-night beach-deck pleasures accordingly. Stefano is a gem of a host, and Nicoletta will assure every household detail. We really do have a sense that it is "ours", more a home than "rental cottage". Our first-time Belize visitors were completely won over by the warm and unique qualities of Belize, and by the warm and unique qualities of Colibri House. They are already planning a second stay - and we'll be with them, for our seventh stay - at Colibri House!

It's a studio so there is not a separate bedroom, however, it is a large space with kitchen area. Non-smoking but table and chairs right outside the front door. I can't say for certain on the rates since we only stayed a few days but I imagine Stefano would offer extended stay rates as others in the area do!
Hi! Yes Placencia is a charming Village.... The Colibri House is located on our beach front property in a residential area called Harbour Place that run from the Ocean to the Lagoon. If you know Placencia you will possibly know the area of the Atlantic Bank Building and Top Value Supermarket located by the main road. Actually Harbour Place is situated 90 yards down south of this 2 business ( but of the beach ;) so we are definitively in the Village, in a quiet area, on the beach and far from the main road but close to everything... In any case we offer to our guests a few old bicycles for free to move around. Hopefully you will decide to stay with us, all the best! Stefano
Hi! Thank you for asking and thank you for answering... I think that all the Mosquito Coast of the Caribbean Sea is more affected by plastic pollution at the beginning of the rain season. Do you remember the last images of Mosquito Coast with Harrison Ford? These shots have been played in Belize many years ago!!! This because in the nearby Countries poor people have not any way to pay for sanitation and they through their garbage in the rivers. When the rain season begins, at the end of June, the rivers are bringing everything to the sea.... Bad but this is the world where we are living now, a lot of plastic and a lot of things we do not need at the end are barreling us everywhere, not only in the sea... The good thing is that when we have this problem in Placencia, we all are collecting the plastic brought by the corrent of the sea to this area. Usually it is 2 days emergency every few years. I have checked many pieces of plastic to understand where they were coming from. Made in Guatemala, made in Mexico, made in Honduras and unfortunately many of them are coming from the cruise ships... Nothing is coming from Belize, e Eco Country where we do our best to preserve our nature and environment. Another issue are the sea weeds, brought by the sea after the storms. That is a good sign. It means that the sea is not polluted. It means that in the water there are not chemicals or stuff that can hurt your health. It also help the beach to grow and usually during the folowing storm everything desappears. it is a cyclic thing managed by the rhythm of the Nature. A quality of sea weeds is called turtle grass, where the small turtles are hiding themselves to survive from the predators. Years ago I have found one small turtle in front of the Colibri House too!!! Said that the sea weeds are not a problem that affect the coast of Belize every day.... Just for a few days after the storms and it is a good sign! Best wishes, Stefano
Hi Mark I am not sure if you got my previous message. Anyway we have just increased our rates. It was years we were not doing it. We only offer weekly rates, but of course if you decide to saty with us we will offer you a little discount. I do not think that in the year 2016 we will change our rates but we are also in the process to add AC improving so our little business. We were planning to charge US$12/night more if used but believe me when I say that in January AC is not necessary. It follow our 2015 rates for both units, I wish you all the best! Stefano
The new high season rates related to the Suite of the Colibri House in the year 2015 will be US$110/night plus 9% of hotel tax. US$ 730/week plus tax.
The new high season rates related to the Studio apt of the Colibri House in the year 2015 will be US$ 90/night plus 9% of hotel tax. US$ 590/week plus tax.
