The Colibri House is a true getaway. Close to everything but far enough away for the solitude we were looking for. We loved sitting on the deck and enjoyed the ocean views over coffee in the morning. The house was clean, comfortable, and had all the necessities we needed. Great communication from the hosts! We hope to return in March! Sunrise from the Colibri House!
Colibri House is an idyllic place to get away from it all! It is located on the water side of the walkway about 15 minutes from the pier. It is close to restaurants, shopping and a food store. It is about 40 - 50 yards from the long sweeping beach. As others have written, the house itself is charming - it is two story octogonical structure made of mahogany. There is an upstairs and a downstairs unit - we stayed in the downstairs unit. Each unit has a small porch/landing where a guest can relax or read or nap in the hammock that comes with each unit! There is a refrigerator, small stove and cooking utensils for those who want to prepare a snack or their own meals. Our bed was comfortable and the water was hot. There is air conditioning but we did not use it (there is a fan that we did use). The unit has cable TV and wifi. Nicoleta, the owner, lives nearby and she came by every day to say "hello" and see if we had any needs. She is a friendly lady and in the short time we were here, we felt that we had gotten to know her well. As I write this, the world is gripped by Corona Virus concern. She said that people were cancelling their bookings with her and we are sorry about that. By way of travel tips: 1. We had breakfast at Detach (a local restaurant) every day. We recommend it. Try the Fry Jack. Look for Melissa. 2. There are several places to go for "Happy Hour". My person preference was the Barefoot Bar. Next door is the Tipsy Tuna and that is okay. 3. Be sure to try Belican beer. I was especially fond of the stout. One result of the British heritage is that Belican beer comes in British units (the Imperial Pint) - specifically, a bottle is a half Imperial Pint. The significance is that the bottles are smaller so I suggest that you order them two at a time (once I caught on, that is what I did). 4. My wife really likes Belize because all the prices are quoted in Belize Dollars. A Belizean Dollar is $0.50 US. In her mind, that means that everything cost HALF of the quoted price! She thinks that means that she has TWICE as much to spend! :-) The Colibri House is a great place for a relaxing vacation! Not sure when our travels will bring us back to Placencia but we will be sure to stay at Colibri House again!…
Perfect place to get away from it all. Well maintained, just steps to the beach, and spacious for two people. Very comfortable little octo-cottage made of mahogany wood, with 8 sides the windows easily catch a breeze and we were comfortable without A/C in February. Nicoletta is an awesome host, very attentive and helpful. Very private property, always felt very safe (day and night), about 20 minute walk to Placentia village, and 10-20 minutes to several grocery stores. Appreciated the peace and tranquility and the many palm trees and tropical garden that shade the property nicely. The ocean was warm and crystal clear, a couple days with waves and several when it was completely calm.
Great location on the walking path. Quiet and relaxing. Our host was friendly and helpful. We would return. Place via is a quiet village, like stepping back in time. We hope it always retains the t atmosphere.
My wife and I stayed at the Colibri House studio and it was GREAT and so much more than expected. Been to Placencia twice and stayed at the Colibri once and will not stay anywhere else in the future. The night we arrived it was pouring rain out and the taxi pulled up and there was Nicollete to meet us and help get us situated, she is an awesome host and always available. So close to town, everything within walking distance including the grocery store within a couple of blocks. It was right on the beach and the beach was never crowded and you could walk the beach to the village if desired. We had a great 2 weeks there and want to thank Nicolette and Stefano for being such great hosts and making our stay exceptional. Marty / Patrice
I dealt with Stefano through email when booking the property and he was very prompt in his responses to me and was very helpful. Nicoletta is the one that you deal with when actually at the house. Her hospitality cannot be described, she was extremely kind and helpful with information about Placencia and tours. She came by the house everyday to check and see how things we're going. The house is in great shape and was the perfect size for our group of 3. We opted out of paying for the A/C as there is always a breeze and with the fans it kept us cool at night. Placencia is a really amazing place to be, the locals are great and many many of the expats that live and run some of the business there. I would HIGHLY recommend Colibri House for your stay on the peninsula. You're right on the beach and wishing walking distance of everything. Thank you Nicoletta and Stefano for making our week in Placencia one to remember. We cannot wait to come back! …
My husband and I decided to go back to Belize and stay in Colibri House for our honeymoon. We had such a great experience the first time we stayed at Colibri House, and the second time was just lovely as well! We did review it the first time as well (but I've forgotten my old username and password, haha.) Needless to say, Stefano and Nicoletta truly care about their guest's experience. They check in regularly to ensure that everything is going well, yet they are not overbearing. They've lived in the area for a long time, and are really great at giving their guests helpful tips about the village and getting around. As a bonus -- I had told Stefano that it was our honeymoon, and he presented us with a bottle of champagne upon our arrival. That was so nice, and it was SO great to begin our Belizian honeymoon by sipping champagne on the balcony. The house itself is beautiful, and located right on the beach. We rented the upstairs, and were able to sleep very comfortably every night with the door open and the sea breeze coming in. Stefano and Nicoletta have added some air conditioning that you may use for a nominal fee, but we did not feel the need to use it -- after all, if you're in Belize, you should be prepared for some heat, right? The house is clean, quiet, and safe. We cannot say enough about Colibri house, and we highly recommend it!…
Our first time to Placencia and we love it. We actually have a couple more days left and do not want to leave. Upon arrival, Nicoletta was there to greet us. She checked on us periodically to see if we needed anything. The Colibri house was perfect for us, right on the beach and right on the walk way to the town. We rented the upstairs and it was perfect. We will be back next year and will be renting the colibri house. Thanks Nicoletta Mike and Victoria
We loved the location because it was quiet at night but close enough to walk down the beach or sidewalk to town. We had fabulous views of the Caribbean Sea from two upstairs decks and enjoyed swimming and playing on the beach - just steps from the door! Nicolette and Stefano were always available and helped us navigate the area with recommendations for tours restaurants, etc. Colibri was very reasonably priced. We did pay extra for the a/c and would recommend it for comfortable sleeping. I can't wait to return to Placencia and would definitely stay at Colibri House again.
We stay here every year for 3-4 weeks in Mar/April. We consider it our home away from home. It has all the essentials. Much more than most accomdations in the area in this price range. We love the lower apartment. This year we had friends staying in the upper one bedroom house for most of our visit. They loved it. Colibri is close to everything happening in town but far enough out to not hear all of the bar and town noise. With the beach a few steps from your door and chairs to lounge in who could ask for more. We will definitely return next year.
