The positives are that they do have a nice pool with a swim-up bar. We were the only people there, which was good for us, but doesn't look too well for the establishment. The location is too far to walk to town, although the ad says 5 minutes, it's more like 25. There are no food, drink, or snack options once you get to the island (except what the bar sells which is pretty expensive.) Even if there were options, you can't have food or drink in your room. The room is about the size of a prison cell, just a bed and fan. He warned us when we got there, but we had already paid by then and weren't going to pay even more for something slightly bigger. It's not bad if you just need a place to crash like a hostel, but they charge more than twice what I pay for similar places with better locations and more amenities.

Here's the guys review from Airbnb. Big 6'2" dude with his wife that didn't want to pay $10 more a night for a Suite with private bath, A/C, all amenities and one of the larger rooms in the Village. Got here at 7pm, went out for 2 hours, slept and left at 7:30 am. And there were others staying here but how would he know? So where is the truth? It's a very nice place, but I would consider it a hostel, not a hotel. The room is literally just a bed. Management was friendly and even suggested a different room, but it was more expensive and required 2 night's stay. The pool is a nice amenity. The best part was that noone else was there, so we had the whole place to ourselves. It's good as a place to crash if you want to be away from the action. However, if you want to be close to restaurants, grocery stores, the nice part of the beach etc., there are some nice places in town that are cheaper. he walk is 5 minutes to thecenter of the village, he came here in September when half of the Village is closed, didn't use the beach, didn't go to the beach bars, etc... Just wanting to bash on someone I guess. And we do have food 7 days a week from noon - dark at the bar.

I immigrated to Placencia Village 6 yrs ago, same time as Mike & Jennifer. I visit Sailfish twice a week to enjoy a day around the pool. The lovely location feels like you are on an island surrounded by water & beautiful landscaping. I meet up with other expats, friends & tourists and the owners interact with us. We sit around the pool laughing, telling stories, joking around & Yes...Drinking! Embracing one another, smiling & having some fun enjoying life, is part of the charm of this village. I am dismayed at the inflammatory remarks listed below this review. I have Never witnesses Anything close to these allegations. I question why anyone would say they had a "terrible" experience due to the fact they extended their stay...Not Once but Twice! This is not a review but, simply a personal attack on the owners of a well respected business in this community. This is Belize! Coming here with the North American attitude & expectations will only result in disappointment.

This resort is no resort at all. The owner Mike is an alcoholic and so is his girlfriend. They fight all the time and you can here them all over the property. Mike try’s to hit on every lady that comes there. My husband had to swim across the lagoon to get Mike to come get us because he was drunk and wasn’t listening for the bell and that’s the only way to get to the property. Not worth the money or energy. To hear there stupidity contact me at enriquezwb@icloud.com. Not hiding behind the net. Will

The owner seems like a real piece of work we were given terrible service here. For starters the owners were drunk when we arrived and gave us an hard time checking in when we showed up with our family consistently telling us all of these people cant stay there even though we informed him there would only be 4 of us to a double bed room. I asked about getting some extra towels because our plan was to be between the pool and beach all day and we didn't want to track up water on the floor of the rooms and he laughed and dismissed me. He consistently said he wanted to make our stay as pleasant as he could but did the opposite and made us feel VERY UNWELCOME. The guy driving the boat Stefan told us that the boat service to get across the lagoon stopped at midnight on the weekend when they had different events going on later then that in town plus it was Easter weekend. When we got back to our room Saturday night we were told that the Boss was out and he was going to keep the boat running until 2am so we went and got ready and Stefan said he would call us an taxi and it would be probably about 15 mins. Long story short the owner showed up soon after we were waiting and I saw him and Stefan talking then Stefan make another phone call while we waited and waited and then the boss went to his room and Stefan got back on the phone this time very loud and then less then 10 mins later he tells us the taxi inst coming anymore. I could be wrong but I assume when the owner got back he told Stefan to shut the boat down for the night and call and cancel their taxi when we just saw a taxi drop the owners off. Also there was small pieces of trash from the previous guest in our rooms as well as an roach in one of the rooms and an very small trash can. The bed is about an 6 inch cheap mattress on large piece of wood instead of an box spring I have no issue with this set up except if you need to be using a thicker mattress you couldn't even sit on the side of the bed without it hurting your legs on the sides of the bed because of the short height of the mattress.

This is the place to be on a Sunday afternoon! The owners/hosts are great. Friendly and very welcoming. It was our first time visiting, but won't be our last. The pool was very inviting and the surrounding seating area is well maintained and clean. The drinks are reasonably priced and the bar service is fast, friendly and efficient. The lunch special of BBQ'd pork on a bun with a side of Mac and cheese was only $10 BZ. Delicious! So happy we found this gem. Looking forward to our next visit.
