the ambiance was nice... not a lot of people, quiet and relaxing. Which is what we were looking for. Its not located downtown Placencia..its a little ways out which is nice. i would stay again. Enjoyed the stay.
My wife and I have not found a vacation destination as beautiful, and as comfortable as what we experienced at Maya Beach Hotel and Bistro in decades!! The food at the restaurant was absolutely 5 star every meal! The staff at the Bistro was professional, yet so friendly that you always felt like part of the family. The hotel amenities were clean and comfortable with a view that would blow your mind! We not only loved our stay, but grew to love the people that make up the staff of this amazing establishment. A huge thank you to John and Ellen, the owners, for allowing us to be part of this wonderful family for two weeks!
Loved our December Vacation in Belize at Maya Beach Hotel. The staff is so kind, friendly, and ready to accommodate with excursions, restaurant suggestions, taxi service. Loved the yoga classes :) We did a Cave Tubing experience and snorkeling. The Cave experience was like nothing else I've ever done in my life. Nothing in the US compares. Swam with nurse sharks eagle rays on our snorkeling trip! I miss it already. Highly recommend it. The people of Belize are very friendly and kind as well. Would love to live there!
Absolutely the best in location, accommodations, food, and service. Have stayed in multiple rooms and each is updated, comfortable, and offers the amenities of home. Staff are extremely friendly and professional - from the groundskeepers, housekeepers, front desk staff, kitchen staff, dining room servers, and owners!! The new front desk and gift shop are spectacular! Did the majority of my gift buying on-site. They had a wonderful selection of Belizian arts and crafts. And the food - nothing short of phenomenal. For breakfast, lunch, or dinner - your taste buds will never be the same! Absolutely the only place to stay when visiting Belize!!
Maya Beach Hotel is located on a narrow strip of land and has direct beach access. You will need some wheels as the hotel is located pretty far from the main town and if one wants to preserve alternative dining options. Parking is available free of charge along the road in front of the hotel. There is an open air restaurant that offers a variety of decent fare and that I would rate with 3 stars (out of 5). It is rated as one of the top restaurants in Placencia by Tripadvisor but that says more about the relative modest quality of other establishments in Placencia overall. There is also a very small pool but with the beach access that is not a big issue. The hotel offers bikes and cayaks that are offered free of charge but supply is limited and they are handed out on a first come, first served basis. There is a limited number of beach chairs but they fill up rather quickly as some patrons appear to stake their claim early by throwing towels on them in the morning. We stayed in a very small cabana (Joya Junior) that was pretty crammed and looked tired. There was hardly enough space to place ones suitcases. The designated seating area consisted of two stacked plastic chairs and a board on the wall one could fold up. There is a small kitchen area that is equipped with microwave, coffee maker, fridge and a small quantity of “glasses” and cutlery. Glasses is in parenthesis as they are all made from cheap plastic that looks like in urgent need of replacement. Also, make sure to compare the actual inventory with the list stuck on the fridge unless you want to be accused of taking any missing items. We missed a toaster and a hot water maker when we checked in but they provided upon request. The bathroom was also very small and had a pretty poor shower. The hotel uses openly laid plastic pipes that obviously allow for a lot of air to enter the system so taking a shower was a noisy affair with sometimes more air coming out of the shower head than water. To get hot water took a long time and much wasted water. The shower head was located so low that I had to bend down to get my head wet. The cabana was air-conditioned but some of the condensation water leaked onto the inside making space for luggage even more of an issue. Service overall was friendly and pretty efficient. They offer limited laundry service at U.S. $10 per load. The WiFi was free of charge and worked very well. Overall the place is okay in a pinch (which we were as all other places were already sold out) but do not expect a “luxury resort in paradise”. The beach/ocean may be enough for some patrons but this writer considers this a basic 3 star motel that has seen better days.…
