This is the second place we’ve stayed in Placencia, and normally I don’t write reviews at all (I know, shame on me) but I had to when I saw the first review said this place ruined their vacation then proceeded to talk about a pool at the hotel and a safe in the room. I’m not sure where that person stayed but it wasn’t here. The Serenade has neither of these things! What they do have is hot water and air conditioning (the other place we stayed for the same price did not), extremely kind employees and beach access. It’s nothing fancy but we’d definitely stay here again! Oh, and they need to update their pictures of the outside. If you’re walking down the Placencia sidewalk looking for the place it is not yellow, look for a grayish building!

Serenade Guest house was a cozy White house right side of the Placencia sidewalk. It offered Hot and cold running water, Laundry service, Cable tv, Air Conditioning, and ceiling fan. The Rooms were very clean and the linen Smelled like it was fresh out of the wash, which it was. Next to The guesthouse is a restaurant named Serenade by de sea, and across from it is a Gift shop, so if you don't want to travel to far, everything surrounds, even the beach is only a fewyards away!

The Seranade Guest House is a very nice place to stay. Anita, the niece of the owner, is a very plesant lady that keeps the place very clean. The rooms have AC and cable TV. The guest house is located in the center of "town" just on the sidewalk. I think that Anita will cook you breakfast if wanted, but there are plenty little restaurants just a few steps away. I think we paid $60/night which was a good deal. You can pay more, but you'll be outside of Placencia and will need a car to get into town. You can pay less, but you won't have AC and we heard that some of the cheaper places lack proper door locks.

Our room was robbed at 3am where someone came into the room walked past my sleeping 6 year old son, stole a significant amount of money and my Nexus 7 tablet. The room had no deadbolt, nor a safe, nor installed security cameras, and was on the ground floor. The local management mentioned that the security cameras had been sitting in a box for six months. It's possible the room was robbed by someone with a key, as they were able to rob the room while we were sleeping without waking us up. Scary. We thought, well, it happens. That's travel.

But...the story doesn't end there. We reported the event to the police. I've been told by Trip Advisor that I can not report the police response. I encourage travelers to contact the local police before staying at this property. Let's just say that we feel that the management and owners are ignoring serious security issues.

Whoever gave the good recommend must have be partying too much. What a dump! Bottom and top sheet, one towel and not even a plastic glass! Not much bigger than a closet. Sure, the A/C is next to your head and the ceiling fan is indeed powerful but very loud. At 70US/night in September it's the worst value in the village. I did better for less at Ranguana Lodge where for a few bucks less I had a little kitchen with stove, microwave, pots & pans, coffee maker, the works! AND glasses so I could take an antihisemine(sp?) in the middle of the night. Add to that a decent breeze from the beach 100" away. It really does help to get a unbiased opinion. My background is Hotel Management so I feel a bit more credible than most reviewers. I am short a year before being 60 and I have been and seen much in my little life. Mostly good but there is always an exception to the rule. I found one. "Juan" is only the manager and not an owner so he can only do so much and is a very nice family man. Just avoid this place for now. DO NOT pre-book until you see it for yourself. I can recommend Julia's Guest house from experience as well as my recent stay at Ranguana for the beach cabins. Seeking 4 star and over look up my other reviews.

We arrived in Placencia in april 2014.
Like in all of Belize you shouldnt expect the luxery and high standard hotels a lot of countries do have. So I will just rate the basics.

We got a room with 3 beds (1 two person and 2 one person), a seperate bathroom with toilet, tv and a good working airconditioning. It was very basic, but for our stay it was fine because we where to busy to stay in the room all day.

Pro: It's in the centre of placencia, just next to the boardwalk/ boulevard and at the beach!

Juan the owner is very friendly and he would help with everything you ask.

Just keep in mind that the matras isnt that great, we kept rolling to the middle of the bed. So if you have a weak back dont stay in room 6 in the two person bed.

The hotel is called: skyflower hotel but also serenade hotel

Although we never stayed at Hotel Serenade, I must write a review about the owner Juan. After walking around for 45 minutes while the sun was setting and not being able to find a place to stay we landed up on Juans doorstep. He too was fully booked but went out of his way to try accommodate us into his vacant staff rooms and a spare bedroom attic he had. He showed us around, and his gentlemen of a son opened doors for us as we viewed the rooms. We decided to continue looking elsewhere dispite his generosity. He insisted we leave our backpacks as to not lug them around with us while we found a place to stay. We said we'd be OK, and thanked him for trying to be so accommodating. What a nice man. Thanks Juan, you have a good soul.

My husband and I stayed at Serenade Guesthouse for 2 nights. We were comfortable. The location is central and great food at De-tatch and Cozy Corner Restaurants is a mere minute's walk.
While in Placencia, we snorkled at Laughing Bird Caye through Nite Wind Tours and loved it. We took the Monkey River tour through Caribbean Tours and thought it was average for the cost... We would have gone to Cockscomb with Nite Wind instead.

Spent 2 days here nothing fancy. Overall was an ok place to stay. Close to the beach
The beaches during the week are covered with sea grass Friday morning they started to clean the beach.
The hotel has nothing to do with the beach If you plan to stay in Placencia come to stay over the weekend.
The hotel is near the center of town near the boat dock near the Hokey Pokey water taxi.
Placencia is a very laid back place to spend a couple of days
