Ray Caye is an absolute gem! The property is beautiful, the food outstanding, and the best part of the entire experience is the staff! When we left the island we felt like we were leaving our family behind. What an incredible experience. Thank you to everyone on the island who made our trip so unbelizeable!
Ray Caye is AMAZING! Not only is the island beautiful, peaceful and relaxing, but the STAFF truly makes this place special. This was my third trip to Ray Caye, once as a mother/daughter trip, second trip for my daughter to get married, and third trip was to celebrate a new career for me. I thought of exploring a different place in Belize for the third trip but could not even imagine anyplace better than Ray Caye. When you have found paradise...why look any further. The staff are phenomenal and truly treat you like family. We snorkeled, SCUBA, paddle boarded, got massages, and just enjoyed our time together. To top it off, the Lionfish Grill is amazing! Two of our 5 people were VEGAN. They figured they would eat rice and beans for a week, but no, the chef was able to accommodate this and made some of the most amazing vegan dishes for every meal - and dessert!! Truly this was the icing on the cake for this trip. He made a curry dish that was to die for! If you are up in the air on coming, I can guarantee that this will be the most amazing place you have ever visited with the most amazing people working there. I can't wait for my fourth trip...! Lastly...on my bucket list was to see a WHALE SHARK and we were so lucky that on our second whale shark dive this behemoth came from the depths and did a drive-by not once, but twice. I can tell you it was the most surreal - amazing experience EVER and so glad I could share that memory with my Ray Caye family!…
Second trip did not disappoint. Attentive staff and the food just got better each day. Celebrating 35th anniversary and we chose to return here instead of going to the Caymans. The staff and their attention to detail make it most relaxing. We took a morning to refresh our PADI dive certification and the dive staff was very helpful. I think that we will be making an annual trip to this lovely island paradise.
Without a doubt, this was one of the best trips my husband and I have ever been on!! We went to celebrate our ten year anniversary. It was THE PERFECT ten year anniversary spot. So intimate and relaxing yet so many excursions to explore if you wanted! And by intimate - I mean intimate. We were the only guests on the entire island the day after we arrived!!! My favorite part of the trip was the turtle snorkeling with Elroy! We swam with three turtles, several nurse sharks, spotted Eagle Rays and so many other types of fish! It was definitely an experience we'll always remember and Elroy even grabbed us a crab to feed to the turtles! We scuba dived for the first time ever and Elroy taught us well. Our very first time we went down for a 45 minute dive after a 20 minutes lesson and the same evening we did a two tank dive. We were so amazed by everything that's under the sea!! So beautiful. We sailed the hobie cats with Rasta and Jeffrey and had a great time (other than my husband getting a bit sea sick). We like to workout on vacation and the fitness center was great! Each morning, we went over to the Lionfish Grill to grab some coffee (it's out at 6:30 am) and we'd drink it on our deck overlooking the ocean (we stayed in the plunge pool villa - the most beautiful room we've ever stayed in). Then we'd hit the gym and head over for breakfast. I cannot say enough about their food. It was honestly the best food I've ever eaten and I'm still wondering how a world renown restaurant hasn't scooped up that chef. Best filet I've ever had. The lionfish tacos were amazing. Breakfast each morning was amazing. We always were so stuffed by the time dinner came but still ate everything because it was too good to pass up! We got the food plan and the drink plan so that we didn't have to worry about anything. The staff were really like family to us by the time we left. Another highlight of the trip was night snorkeling with Beto!!! It was on my bucket list on the island and our very last night Beto went with us to make us feel more comfortable being in the water at night. He became like a brother to us! He was always so friendly and we grew to care for him so much! We also loved Pablo, Melvin, Jose, Antonio, Yanik, Samuel, and Manzie. Everyone was just so great. Samuel got us coconuts from the palm trees and we had refreshing coconut water one afternoon. Manzie sang us songs that he wrote himself (I had tears in my eyes they were so beautiful). We did a fly fishing excursion one day and my husband caught several bonefish, some jacks and came pretty close with a permit. He fished pretty much every day from the docks and caught bonefish, needle fish (watch out - one bit him pretty good on the leg when he tried to take the hook out), Jacks, snapper, and several others. On the puddle jumper plane ride from Belize City to Placencia I rode in the co-pilot seat and he gave us a scenic tour of the coast of Belize. I'm telling you, this trip was dreamy. The airline did lose my luggage from Belize City to Placencia but the van driver called every person on the manifest and found it within an hour. Crises diverted. GO TO THIS ISLAND!! YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT! A couple things to consider: -If you're looking for wild nightlife, this probably isn't the place. We were in bed by 9 every night except for our last night when we went night snorkeling and stayed up late with Beto and another couple we met. -bring dramamine or anti-nausea medicine if you get sea sick! And maybe stay away from the Hobie cats …
This is a delayed review with no excuse but procrastination. Date of Stay: March 1 - 6, 2022 Room: Cabana C9 I probably can't say anything that hasn't been said already - this place is paradise and I cannot wait to go back. The Cabana was an unexpected upgrade, as we'd booked an Island Room so we were thrilled. We were picked up from our hotel in Placencia and driven to the boat launch for Ray Caye, the trip over was fantastic - beautiful. Arrival was great, with drinks waiting and a great intro to the island as we made our way to the cabana. Everything was beautiful and well maintained. Staff could NOT be more friendly. It was like we had been there forever. The cabana was faced the Sea and was on a small cove with a great deck. It had a connecting room that we didn't need and no one was booked into so we were very private. The two "complaints" we had were we could not open the windows and there was not a coffee maker in the room. Both of which sounds like has been taken car of - windows int he cabanas have since been replaced during the renovations and sounds like they are putting in a bar area with coffee makers. Food is Ah-May-Zing, simply delicious. I am not an adventurous foodie but I tried everything and it was all delicious. We bought the food and the drink plan to make it "all-inclusive". I don't know the prices if we hadn't purchased the plans but I think it was worth it. Although, I think we would have skipped lunch if we hadn't bought the package... we were stuffed ALL. THE. TIME. Lots of activities for such a small island. I guess my 2nd "complaint" was there wasn't really a good 'swim beach'. But you can snorkel right off the island, you can kayak, SUP, hobie-cat, etc. So really, not a viable complaint. We are extremely novice kayakers so we didn't do too much as we were too worried about hitting the coral that surrounds the island but others took full advantage and paddled around the island. The dock at night with the blue lights - so great to see the island's namesake gliding gracefully underneath. The new pool and restaurant was open at the time of our trip but looked like it will be fantastic. Another reason to go back. Just a wonderful place to kick back and relax. Cannot wait to visit again.…
My sister and I went here at the recommendation of a friend and it was amazing! The snorkeling was first class and right from the island. We did the food package (which I highly recommend) but not the drink package (the drinks were quite reasonably priced). The resort is kid-friendly (with a slide off the dock) and we both can’t wait to return with our kids and family.
I have been to this island many times, and it keeps getting better and better. The service, the food, the drinks, the adventures, and just the peace and quiet that it offers. The time flies by. We had the Sunrise/Honeymoon suite. The glass doors fully open into the walls, exposing your private beach, splash pool, with the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in looking out at the view. Melvin, Pablo, and the rest of the Lion Fish Grille are amazing. Antonio and Dasha the island hosts. Yanik in the Dive Shop, William, Rasta, Elroy.... all there to make all your adventures perfect. Fish, Swim, Snorkel, Sail..... enjoy, relax, and have one of the best times of your life!
We spent our honeymoon at Ray Caye Resort end of August 2022 and we don't have anything but good things to say about this place! If you are looking for a place to mainly come and relax, have great food and drinks, and do some water activities, this is the place! We booked the Honeymoon package and added the drink package for both of us. The Honeymoon suite was so nice and having our own private pool was perfect! The bed faced sliding doors that opened all the way up to the deck and private pool and looked out over the ocean. It was so nice waking up to the beautiful view every morning. Just to note though, definitely hard to sleep in as there are no black out shades and only privacy shades! They had complementary paddleboards, kayaks, catamarans, and snorkel gear you could use during your stay. And then we booked a guided snorkel tour (Turtle spot), scuba diving lesson (Discover Scuba Dive), and a massage! We saw so many dolphins, turtles, nurse sharks, and sting rays! Definitely talk to the front desk and dive shop on your first day so you can book all the activities you want, depending on their availability and the weather! They also had a sand volleyball court and a bunch of game boards laying around the common area and restaurant, so we enjoyed playing Scrabble every night after dinner. Food and drinks were amazing, don't think we had a single meal we didn't love! And the drinks were strong, but still very tasty! The drink package included all soft drinks, non-alcoholic drinks, local beers and rum drinks. A lot of the drink menu was included in the drink package so there were lots of options to choose from! And you just paid the extra if you wanted a drink not included. Fav drinks were the mojito (classic and coconut), Island Fizz, bloody mary's, and michelada! Honestly, all the drinks we had were great, just depends what you're into! Definitely think the drink package was worth the price especially if you are drinking all day! They would let you take buckets of beer out to the pool or on paddleboards/kayaks if you asked, and also water bottles! Another nice thing about Ray Caye was that you could drink the tap water and not get sick! As far as food, the breakfast and lunch menus were fixed (still had a lot of options to choose from so you weren't eating the same thing everyday) and there was a different dinner special every night. They also had chips and salsa available in between lunch and dinner if you were needing a snack! Dinner always included a starter (could choose from some kind of salad or soup), entree (always had a seafood, red meat, and white meat option), and a dessert. I mostly ate seafood and my husband ate the red meat options. Honestly, all the food we had was amazing, better than we could have expected! And as part of the Honeymoon package, we had one dinner on the beach one night which was very romantic! Best thing about Ray Caye was the staff! Honestly, some of the nicest and friendliest people you will ever meet. They knew all the guests names which made it so intimate. We loved hanging at the bar and just talking with the staff. Very friendly, easy going and great, great customer service! Feel like we made new friends with all the staff by the end of our trip! The ONLY negative thing I could say about Ray Caye was the travel to get there ... everything went smooth and nothing went wrong ... But it was just a long travel day! Coming from Colorado, we had to take a 2hr flight to Texas, a 2hr flight to Belize City, a 1hr flight to Placencia on a super small hopper plane, and then 1hr boat ride to Ray Caye. Not a bad travel day, just a long one with all the different connections! But it is definitely worth the travel once you are there! I will definitely come back to Ray Caye and recommend this place to my family and friends! We had an amazing experience! Our goal for our Honeymoon was to relax, get a lot of sun, swim in the pool and ocean, a do a couple excursions, and we feel like we achieved that! And not to mention, the weather was PERFECT during our stay! I was nervous about going in August as it said it was their hurricane season, but the weather ended up being great the whole time! Only had 2 thunderstorms during the middle of the night, but by morning it was back to being sunny and blue skies the rest of the day! All in all, GREAT experience!…
This resort is not only in a picture perfect location but with a level of privacy that we have only had at resorts charging two- three times as much. BUT the best part of the resort is their staff which truly makes you feel like a guest in their home. The excursions were not only fabulous but we were only us and the guide and boat captain- we did not have to reserve the excursions weeks or even days in advance . We were able to the morning of - go to the dive shop and were able to go diving within the hour and another day we had scheduled a dive for the morning and just weren’t feeling it and the staff was like ya it’s a little too rough for a comfortable dive let us know if you change your mind- we are here. My wife and I have been vacationing in the Caribbean and Mexico for 23 years and have never stayed at the same resort twice but we will be back to Ray Caye in April with our teenagers for a family trip.…
I cannot have better things to say about my partner and my stay at RayCaye in July ‘22. The staff is incredible — specifically Beto’s warm, hospitable service. Beto treated us like family in how attentive he was to our needs. Loved every minute and cannot wait to come back!
