The location was great - central to Placencia Village and right off both the main road and the “sidewalk”. Odalis was a friendly and helpful hostess, and easily accommodated us for an extra night stay when our marine conservation excursion was postponed by a day. We stayed two different weekends in two different cabanas and both were very comfortable for both sitting outside (bug spray required) and inside (for watching American football). We also took advantage of the freely available bicycles for a broader tour of the peninsula. If you’re planning a trip to Placencia and you want to stay in the village, you can’t go wrong with these villas.

My wife and I stayed for 3 nights and it was just perfect. The grounds are soooo pretty like a little oasis/garden. The staff were very friendly and the rooms extra clean. It was a short walk to the beach and all the village has to offer. Great location and a bargain for all you get. If you are in Placencia we'd recommend this hotel.

The first night it was clear I had picked the wrong place. The wifi was terrible even though I had told them it was critical for my work. The gas for the stove was out. and it took them a while to change out the tank. The water shut off right during dinner preparation b/c, I found out later, a pump overheated. Then that same night I was awakened by weird gurgling sounds in the sink and toilet. When I flushed it, it was almost overflowing and of course the plunger was no good. Fortunately and unlike other nights, the maintenance guy was on the property and i had to go wake him up lest the room flood. I asked to be moved the next day to another room with better wifi and while they accommodated that, it wasn't until after I had to repack and schelp my stuff myself was I told I would have to move BACK to the bad room before my stay was over! So the new room also has gas problems and the a.c. didn't work so I had to spend another couple hours chasing that down. At that point I had to ask (it was never offered) for a free night for the run around I was getting. Then within a couple days, another room turned on the a.c. and it was now the noise equivalent to a small drone in my room which was not going to be conducive to sleep or relaxation. So I said I would move back to the room without the decent wifi (and not get my work done). Again, repacked and schelped it all back. And again, the gas tank--that they had just replaced 2 days before, was off, or switched or not working and by the time I figured that out, no one was anywhere near the property so I had no dinner that night. I again asked for some sort of rebate for this utter b.s. at this point and was told I would only be granted another $20. Later, they reneged on this b/c she said it was 'for you to go out to dinner' which I had told her I couldn't/didn't do b/c by the time I found out no one would come to fix the gas, I had eaten chips and gotten a migraine, not to mention the fact that I told them previously I did not eat out. I told her I put it toward a much needed massage after this b.s. but she basically said 'too bad'. This was in addition to other insulting my intelligence remarks like 'try the matches' when I told her the gas was out again, as if I hadn't done that a million times by then. eye roll. It just went on and on. It was ludicrous and other guests were also complaining about the slow internet, barking dogs and noise from someone who had moved into an upper room. Ugh, just avoid this place!

Thank you for the review. Your feedback is taken seriously and management has addressed all issues immediately. We do feel terrible the city water pressure caused our pump and plumbing issue one evening... I do appreciate you pointing out that we have 24/7 maintenance and management staff available on site ready to help. Our staff is not "ok" when problems occur and even during unforseeable circumstances they do their best to keep all our guests happy and safe. We always make things right which included having our internet provider review/confirm the max speed for the property. I do hope you return for another opportunity to show you Placencia Villas has everything for a perfect vacation.

We loved our stay at the Villas. This says a lot when you consider that we visited from Colorado with a six year old who'd never seen Belizian heat/humidity. The location was prime--near beaches, laundry, restaurants, a supermarket, and local art shops. The AC unit cooled things down in a hurry, and the screened-in porch was perfect for hammock lounging with a cold Belikin. If you want concierge service, this is not that, but who goes to Placencia to stay in their hotel rooms? Free use of paddle boards and beach chairs/towels. We recommend breakfast at Wendy's and dinner at Rumfish! Highly recommend getting lunches from the locals, (which will make sense when you get there.) It's better food at a third of the price. Taking the back road towards old Main Street, there's an awesome wood-maker shop on the right in a green building. Please tell the owner, Ex, that Stu says hi!

We rented the Manatee Cottage. I think this is the best unit there - so use this review mostly for this cottage!!! *** WE STAYED ALMOST 2 MONTHS - AND WOULD COME BACK *** - Right in the center of town 5-minute walk to the pier, ocean, grocery stores, and restaurants - 2 screened porches - great for working, relaxing, and eating dinner - Excellent wifi - 60/60. It did go down 2x in 2 months (1 power outage and 1 major telecom outage where cell went down too) - Very well appointed with items you need in kitchen, linens, towels, decorations - Aircondition works great - 3 separate units - Staff are friendly and available in person or via Whatsapp - Nice landscaping - Any issues we had (you have a couple after 2 months) were addressed quickly - BBQ station was nice A few notes on Placencia 1. Very quiet village 2. If you have a child and you are staying somewhere without a pool – the Placencia Beach Club is a must. Buy a membership and get free transportation to and from the club. You just need to txt them for transportation. Their food is very good too! 3. Our cottage had two porches at Placencia Villas. Great location to walk to restaurants, fruit stands, and grocery stores. 4. Avocados, fresh bananas, cucumbers, and tomatoes from local fruit stands. They receive their deliveries on Tuesday and Thursdays 5. Try banana chips from your local fruit stand 6. It is very warm: Air temperature and Ocean temperature 7. Placencia Sidewalk to get to restaurants and the Beach Club 8. We met new friends here that is not possible to do during COVID restrictions in Ottawa, Ontario 9. The ocean water is very buoyant. 10. Be persistent when trying to learn how to live in a place. If you are looking for something for your child to do – ask everyone. You never know what a person knows. If you are arriving in Placencia – ask for Mr. Cal – he works at the two private schools. He is the soccer coach and Physical Education teacher. 11. Beer and rum are good 12. English speaking 13. Wi-Fi and cellular networks are good and inexpensive Easy to get a SIM card. 1) Get SIM at retailer which includes 1 G of data for 10 days 2) Add money to your SIM on their website 3) Choose a data plan by typing *400# (digicell) on your phone. Crazy but true! Negative things 1. Grocery shopping daily: only frozen meat is available. The prices are not marked on most of the items in the grocery store and the owner “makes up” the price at the cash. Never sure what you are paying for any item from day to day/ week to week. If you ask for a grocery receipt – 90% of the items will not be listed. Frustrating! The grocery store do not consistently price items so you need to be careful at the cash register. Pricey imported items may not have a price tag. Look at your receipt before you leave the store. You can end up purchasing expensive ribs that are not priced which are stored right next to locally sourced ribs. 2. Car and golf cart rentals are expensive 3. Sea grass is very stinky this year in June/July. Thankfully we could not smell anything after one or two days. 4. Wine is difficult to find here. You must go to The Little Wine Bar (the name of the restaurant). All grocery stores do not store the wine at the correct temperature. One grocery store stores the white wine in a fridge. The red wine is overheated on the shelves of stores that do not have AC. 5. Fresh bread is difficult to find and hard to keep. Store your bread in the fridge. 6. Local food is bland: Rice beans and stewed chicken gets boring quickly 7. Flour is sold by the pound – difficult to estimate how much you will need during your stay 8. Placencia is more quiet than I expected. Living here was like being at the cottage. Unfortunately, it is a small country so there is no way to go to Walmart or shop on Amazon for board games. If you have children, plan to bring cards, devices, and board games. 9. Frozen meat is only available at grocery stores. No fresh meat is available anywhere. 10. Difficult to impossible to find bike parts. My bike needed repair and I was told that I needed to order a part from Belize City. I was told that it could be sent to me overnight through Tropic Air. We were only staying for 10 more days so I didn’t bother 11. Difficult to impossible to find computer and high-tech equipment/parts/adaptors etc. 12. All electronics and jewelry tarnish/rot in the humid salty air: We brought four power supplies and one blew. We also brought three laptops and one will not boot.
