My husband and I were looking for an authentic place to stay for the rainforest portion of our trip in Belize. Thankfully, we came across this hidden gem. The owners Theo and Marcus were extremely hospitable yet low key and laid back. Not like hyper hosts which was nice. We personally had our tours set up for a cave and Mayan ruins, but we noticed they went out of their way to schedule tours and all for the other guests, even some who wanted an adventure on the day of! Seems like they know everyone in San Ignacio. This place doesn’t have hairdryers or outlets in the bathroom to get glam, but if you pack that and all it’s awesome. We like camping so the no makeup vibe and drying my hair in the bedroom was no problem. Actually fun. There were a troop of howler monkeys that passed through for a couple of days which made the experience awesome. You truly are in nature! Might want to pack some ear plugs if you’re a light sleeper and don’t forget bug spray. We stayed over Christmas and Theo and Marcus even made a traditional Christmas meal for all the guests! It felt like our travel family getting to know them and some guests here and there. Only 7 cabins I believe so you’re not bombarded with people like resorts. If you choose to eat at the lodge for breakfast or dinner you are in for a serious treat!!! We had delicious omelettes with plenty of vegetables, lots of toast, fruit, and great coffee each morning! Dinner was delicious too and always dessert! Lol we decided to eat like every meal there over our 4 day stay. Once we went into the town of San Ignacio and their recommendation of Guava Limb Cafe was awesome. They did laundry for us the night before we left which was so nice. My first international trip in a decade so hindsight learned that was a favor considering other places with laundry services can take over a day to accommodate. Friendly 2 dogs and a cat on the property too. Felt like home in the jungle. Again, laid back and perfect to relax and unplug.…
My family and I stay in the lodge for 6 days. We enjoyed the every minute that we spent there. The vegan dinner is the best! Marquis has been very helpful with everything about Belize. Theo is an excellent cook! Thank you! Theo and Marquis. Best wishes for the year of Tiger!
People were awesome the rooms are cool and jungle all around and the river just a couple footsteps away We used interludes and had a great time Kids loved it and we relaxed and enjoyed every minute The food and staff was great and little ways out of town but taxis to town were cheap A perfect place for a family vacation
The Parrot Nest Lodge is the perfect base from which to explore the area. The owners are very friendly and wonderful to talk to. They have lived in the area for years and know what to do and who to do it with. We only stayed for two nights and did a day tour of the Caracol Archeological site with Maya Walk Tours. The first day we got to the lodge they suggested a great place for dinner which had the added benefit of being on the river. We borrowed two tubes and used them on the river to get back to the lodge. While tubing down the river back to the lodge we passed by lots of locals also enjoying the river. We stayed in cabin number 7 which was great. The shower had hot water and a flushing toilet. both of which our previous hotel didn't have. The porch had a table and chairs along with a very comfortable hammock. At night you get the sounds of animal life, mostly insects, as you are in the jungle, but nothing that stops you from sleeping. Both mornings we had breakfast (extremely delicious omelets) there and the second night we had dinner (also delicious) at the lodge. All of the meals were delicious and it was fun to sit with the few other guests and share stories. They have 2 dogs and a cat, all are very friendly. The whole place is full of character. There were lots of different bird sounds which we had never heard before. To here from San Ignacio you can take a collectivo taxi for a few USD. We shared the taxi with a few other people. We were able to get Covid tests in San Ignacio. At night the yard fills up with fireflies which makes for a magical sight.…
We, my son and me, stayed at this great place in October 2019. I was ‘super busy’ and only now write a review. But better later than never :). This place is for those who wants to be in jungle and at the same time not too far from a city. Simple, nice houses, clean - ‘you are in the jungles’. We enjoyed this place a lot and definitely will come back! Lots of birds ! Food was great! Owners are amazing and helped with advice. Advice: Take your camera and proper shoes. Best Regards Svetlana
We spent 5 nights at Parrot Nest over Christmas, 2019. It was our favorite place we stayed in our 2 weeks in Belize (the others were cabanas on the beach). My two kids loved the resident dogs and puppy, and we all loved the delicious fresh meals, cozy cabin, communal deck to play cards/games, and the super friendly and accommodating hosts, Marcus and Theo. We went to Belize for the coral reefs, but found the jungle portion of our trip to be just as rewarding. Parrot Nest is the perfect base from which to explore the jungle, mountains, caves, waterfalls, and Mayan Ruins that this region has to offer. We had booked our tours in advance (since it was the high season), but Theo helped us iron out some wrinkles in our plans. She also booked last-minute tours for some groups who had not booked ahead. Plan to eat your breakfasts (made to order) and dinners (amazing!) here. There is no reason to go anywhere else! We stayed in Cabin #6, a cozy and comfortable cabin with two twins and a queen bed and a simple, private shower and toilet on the back deck.…
My brother and I stayed here the first 3 nights we came to Belize and decided it was our favorite part of the entire trip! I wish I could’ve stayed here 5 nights and the islands 2. The hosts are very helpful and friendly, and I loved their dogs so much and chillin on the porch at night. If I come back to Belize I will probably book this place for my whole trip! Thanks so much
If you are looking for something different this is the place for you. Marcus was full of great information! Our cabin was clean and the facilities were very charming by the river with lots of fireflies and hammocks to relax in! At first, it was a little awkward but it grew on us so much we called it home for 4 nights.
Girlfriend and I were looking for an off the beaten path stay for two nights in San ignacio and loved it. We were immediately greeted by Marcus and Theo's 3 dogs when we stepped out of the car. Marcus and Theo upgraded our room since there was an opening which was super generous. We loved having a relaxing place to hang out after the ATM cave tour then and waking up up to the sound of birds in the morning was amazing. The food was awesome and a great way to start the day. Our only regret was not have enough time to try out tubing. If you're looking for a more unique and fun way to experience San Ignacio and Belize, this is the way to go.
We absolutely loved staying at the lodge. Tree House number 2 was our home during our visit to San Ignacio. We loved waking up to the sound of the birds. The bathrooms are shared but are extremely clean. They also have rooms with adjoining bathrooms if you would prefer that to staying in a tree house. We had breakfast and dinner at the lodge except for Saturday when we went to the market and stuffed ourselves with burritos and pupusas. The food was excellent and the omelette might in fact be the best I have ever had. We loved eating at the long tables, chatting to the folks that were staying or helping at the lodge. Theo was so kind and helped us plan our activities. There is no doubt that if I came to Belize again we would stay at the lodge. Thank you so much for hosting us.
