After spending a few hot, sleepless nights on the coast, we ventured inland to higher elevation. The clean, comfortable cabin was the perfect temperature to sleep. It was beautiful. Situated right near town, we could use this place as a perfect base camp for Mayan ruins at Cahal Pech, Xunantunich, Caracol, and the lovely, young couple running the place hooked us up with, Luis, for the ATM tour. Which was my favorite thing the entire 3 month trip. (Narrowly beating out Weezer on South Beach Miami). I cannot say enough good things about these folks. We got to meet Francisco's Dad, he was warm and friendly. We intended to stay maybe 2 nights, but we stayed nearly a week. Just amazing.
This is a must do. Lovely, convenient location and hugely friendly people. Make sure you do a canoe trip. The river, birds, etc. to yourselves. There is a feeling of meeting people who are totally committed to their community.
I read over and over that it was tricky camping in Belize. I didn't find that to be the case as long as you didn't mind being at designated areas. This was such a place. The owners were helpful and friendly, even getting up in the middle of the night to deal with some drunken idiots. They provided advice about the local area, and kept a laid-back vibe going throughout the "campground." The bathrooms were clean and easily accessible. The camping locations were nice and simple. And we had wifi, which was a big plus. The only thing for people to know is that this isn't a remote camping area. It's near the main part of the city, so road/city noise is a little louder than you might expect. Ear plugs worked just fine for us, though. Great spot for the budget traveler!
This is so much better than staying in a hotel. The bungalow was clean with nice bathroom and big comfortable bed. Sitting on the terrace facing the green garden was a pleasure in the evenings. The owners are nice as well. I would come back without hesitation.
We stayed here in a cabin for 3 nights, and we definitely could have stayed longer. The property is peaceful, with lots of trees and birds around. The cabin was basic but very clean, with a good bathroom and a little veranda you can sit out on. Nelli and Fransisco were super lovely - Fransisco even went and bought fresh ginger and made a ginger tea for my partner when he heard he was sick, which was so very kind! Frank, who also works there, was very welcoming and gave us some great tips for where to eat. The location is perfect too, right across from the market, and close to the shops while still having the benefit of a large, peaceful and luscious property. Would definitely recommend staying here if you’re in San Ignacio!
