Stayed in a shared dorm with no air conditioning, was at the very top of the building and was like a furnace all night! I’ve stayed in fan-cooled rooms before and this one was by far the sweatiest. The breakfast/dinners were very expensive so we opted to cook for ourselves in the small kitchenette. The bathroom in the room didn’t lock which for a woman in a mixed dorm is not ideal.. then we got the arranged taxi to the ferry and they brought us to the expensive ferry to Caye caulker, difference of nearly 20 Belize per person! I wouldn’t stay here again personally.
I've worked in Belize over the last 4 years and always stay at the Red Hut Inn. Between the terrific, accommodating staff and great food I have always enjoyed the laid back and calming environment here. Louis, Julia and Caroline have always gone above and beyond to make our stay as enjoyable and authentic as possible. Truly feels like home.
I stayed here for just one night and it was fine. The Inn has several features that make it a good place to stay if you're passing through Belize City. It is in a relatively safe neighborhood, close to the airport, walking distance to Sahara restaurant that serves delicious Lebanese food, and has a nice rooftop to sit out on. I also appreciated the free coffee in the morning and the option of a cheap breakfast and dinner (though I would recommend going to Sahara for lunch/dinner). The rooms are garishly decorated and the bathroom soap is watery, but otherwise no complaints. It's a good alternative to the extremely overpriced hotels in Belize City.
Red hut inn is located in a residential area in Belize city. Its 15 min from the airport and downtown belize city. Its a home converted to various accomodations depending on your needs. Our initial stay was in the smaller rooms we booked two because we were a party of 3. The beds were tiny and small restroom attached. Later we were upgraded to a bigger room and bathroom attached that accomodated all of us. We stayed 3 separate nights. It was very convenient for us. Julia and Louis are the caretakers. Julia, from Taiwan, helped us with our rooms and bookings. Louis, brit/belizean, helps with the meals and driving as needed. They were a big help to us. Here are some costs that we paid so you can plan accordingly. We were able to leave our bags here safely for $3 usd per day. Laundry depending on your load is $15-30 usd. Louis took us on a Belize city tour for $45 usd. Its not something I recommend as the town doesn't have much to see, the museum was good though. Louis helped us get a sim card which we were very grateful for. They picked us and dropped us from water taxi and airport $20-$30 usd per ride. My son left his phone at the hotel, and they found it and got it back for us after they dropped us off for which was very helpful for an additional $20 usd. Alternatively you can order a local taxi which most of the other guests did. Breakfast is $7-13 usd and dinner is $13 usd per person and is served on terrace where there are tables and a hammock to relax. My son enjoyed the food, grilled chicken one day, bbq another and pasta the other. Alternatively there are two restaurants near by that are walking distance, sahara grill and one on the promenade. If you pay cash you save on the credit card surcharge, Atm, scotia bank and brodie grocery store are walking distance too. There are a lot of dogs in the area so definitely a lot of barking through the night and there are bugs around as well so bring insect repellent. I got bitten by a local fly while walking around the area, my arm swelled up, so definitely wear long sleeves and repellant and bring cortisone. Overall a pleasant and convenient stay.…
5 stars across the board! Julie the owner has great personal skills, well traveld, and makes you feel less of a tourist and more like family Her Chef husband's breakfast breakfast (7.50 USD/14 BZE) of Eggs, and Cheese, Bacon, Bananas and lightly toasted bread with orange juice was perfectly balanced....I wish he could travel with me. Caroline the guide, was knowledgeable and friendly helping me maximize my country experience. SLEPT LIKE A KING! Shared a room ($25 USD/50 BZE) with 4 others, great time. The room had bunk beds, closet, full bathroom, tv and WIFI. As a traveler, this was exactly what I wanted. Best decision.
I stayed in Red Hut Inn for about a week. They are located in an extremely safe neighbourhood. You will enjoy specially the neatness to Carribean sea. Ask the manager for directions. It is close by. Caroline, is a highly polished and professional person. She starts day with a fresh pot of coffee. There is milk in the fridge. Complementary to all people. Red Hut Inn staff keeps the place very clean. My sheets were changed regularly. Brodies is a great supermarket for fresh food. Specially liked a place with homestyle Belizian food, rice beans vegetables for just 6 BZD. There is sea side walk with a nice restaurant. Ask for day tours and maps. Caroline was very helpful in giving honest advice. I am highly thankful to everyone here. Enjoyed visiting with other guests. Staff keeps the terrace organized. I highly recommend Red Hut Inn for short and longer stays. This place is convenient to catch daily buses to all over Belize. Caroline will genuinely guide you with best advice. Thank you Red Hut Inn! We had just one night only at the red hut inn (less than 12 hours really) but our stay was great. Comfy beds, clean bathroom and room and friendly staff. The place has a great laid back atmosphere about it.
The rooms were very good and the communal dinner was a great way to meet other travelers. The staff was superior and they made you feel right at home. Family recommend this place to us and they were not wrong! Julia and Lewis were so welcoming as well as all the other staff. Food really was amazing and really gave you the taste of a five star restaurant. Would recommend for anyone who needs to go to the airport in the morning or wants to be right in Belize city.
Friendly staff, had a communal dinner with other travelers, the place is great if you're on a budget! The people running it are awesome . They make sure you have everything you need, can take you on trips, and point you in the direction of things you might want to do. Again, this place is best suited for backpackers.
Julia, Lewis, Caroline and all the staff there are professionals and so great at making foreigners feel right at home! They were so helpful to me despite my sadness and frustration at how many things went awry [as they tend to when we're traveling, right?! ;] and I was actually able to do all the things that I set out to, and more, with all their help! The rooms were so super clean, the food they made was delicious, and they offer great tours and pick-up and drop-off to places for affordable rates. Lewis was even so kind to run me my wallet to the water taxi place with my Visa in it, after I realized that a lot of places didn't accept American Express! I am beyond thankful for all their accommodation, helpfulness, and kindness. Thank you guys for a great trip, I'll see you next time!…
