Diver resorts are usually easy going and attract good and friendly people all there to share a passion and this place was no exception. We've been to several resorts like this one (diving island resort). We like the formula, not too many guests, personalized service, the staff gets to know your name within a day, etc. Everything there is done to make sure you'll enjoy your stay. The diving near the hotel was good, especially the Elbow site where you get to see reef sharks and several eagle rays swimming together... At one spot we had 4 sharks and 6 eagle rays in front of us. It was amazing. Needless to say we asked to go back there few times. Visibility was ok, not always great but it rained a lot before we got there, got told it can get much better. The blue hole excursion was awesome. Everything was perfectly organized and we had plenty of room on the boat. The blue hole dive itself was ok, but we had better blue hole dives in the Bahamas. Only saw 4-5 sharks, from a distance and visibility was poor (very changing we got told). However the two other sites we did during this excursion were world class some of the best we've done (and we dove in 30+ countries to put things in perspective). Visibility and abundance marine life were great. The hotel itself is far from everything and you get to do the sites with their smaller boat so you never see many divers around. Food was good, morning coffee in a basket delivered at our room every morning was a nice touch. Drinks at the bars were also very good. All made with known brands and fresh ingredients. We arrived one day ahead of time and got an excursion organized by their staff. Driver was on time and an officially licensed guide. We did the Altun Ha tour, 1 hour from Belize city. We were alone on the site... no tourist crowd in the morning. Was worth it if you have half a day to kill. We greatly appreciated our guide knowledge of the site and Belize in general. We had a great week and would highly recommend.

Dear Nestor, Thank you so much for taking the time to give us such a wonderful and detailed review, and we are really happy that you enjoyed your stay on the Island, as well as the additional activities on the mainland of Belize. We do like to think of ourselves as remote and private, catering to a few discerning travelers and divers who enjoy activities in the water far from crowded areas, and we are delighted that you got to experience this for yourselves. We would sincerely love to welcome you back in the not too distant future! Best wishes from the whole TIR Team!

Turneffe Island Resort is a private, secluded slice of heaven. It is easy to get to and easier to enjoy. The accommodations, in private houses with outdoor showers and screened-in porches, fit the relaxing atmosphere. The food was fantastic and a wide variety of fresh seafood and made to order meals were served. We were a bit surprised that the meals all had communal seating, so you definitely get to know your fellow travelers! The beach is well-maintained and is perfect for relaxing, tanning, or swimming. The activities from fishing to scuba diving are fairly intimate (often only a few people) and the expert guides were the best. The best part of Turneffe is the location, which is quiet, relaxing, and totally peaceful. The staff add to the enjoyment as they are consummate professionals and make every visitor feel at home. I would absolutely recommend it for those looking for a private getaway or an action-filled adventure.

We returned from our recent trip to Turneffe Island Resort as excited and we were when we made our first trip there 9 years ago. Our dive group is very varied. We range in age from 13 to mid 70’s, with the majority of us well into “senior citizen status”. The staff not only met, but anticipated most of our needs. Marcela, our divemaster, was exceptional. She consistently found and showed us things we would have never seen. She always said “the big things would come to us”...and they did. Sharks, dolphins, rays, free swimming moray eels, etc. Brad our boat captain was also exceptional. And believe me, he handled us senior citizens with care and a smile. I’m 70 now and with this kind of service I can see my dive career extending many years. Iris, Reynada took great care of us at mealtime and the food is incredible. Eddie and Aly, the managers were friendly and always available to us. Needless to say I’m looking got to a return trip.

Our experience at Turneffe was top notch. From the planning with the travel agent, to the staff that met us at the airport, to the boat ride to the island, to the waiters and fabulous food, to the diving and superb dive master and boat captain and valet diving, to the gorgeous rooms and all of the personable staff!! I liked the diving best. There were more bugs biting than anticipated, so come prepared with bug spray and Benadryl gel. We are definitely going back again. Many good memories and really good underwater pictures!!

This was by far the best dive vacation I have ever had. Accommodations were great, food was fantastic, and the people were kins and courteous. I loved the meals and meeting with everyone each meal to talk about the day's dives, etc. The diving was great and I could not believe the service - tanks were all ready on the boat ready for the dive. Our divemaster was wonderful and very professional watching out for us all the time. Any time he saw something he would make sure everyone knew about it. The boat driver in picking us up at the end of each dive really knew how to do this the right way, even in swells of 5-6 ft.And at the end of the day, a lot of neat little places to relax, incl the bar! I am ready to go back next year!
