Blackbird Caye is a privately owned Island sitting on The Mesoamerican Reef System - often referred to as the "Jewel of the Caribbean" - it is the largest barrier reef in the Western Hemisphere with a rich tapestry of vivid corals, mangrove forests, coastal wetlands, and diverse marine wildlife. Within the reef you will find Turneffe Atoll the Caye where the resort is located. Turneffe is the largest and most biologically diverse of the 3 atolls found in the Caribbean home to more than 65 species of stony coral, 350 species of mollusk, and more than 500 species of fish, manatees, dolphins and invertebrates. There are over 70 dives sites all within 10-15 minutes from the resort and 45 minutes to Lighthouse Reef where The Great Blue Hole is located. The resort is made of 17 modern cabanas facing the Caribbean Sea. The cabanas are all equipped with A/C, fans, private bathrooms, either King or Queen Beds with new comfortable bedding, private porches with chairs and swinging hammocks. Included in the price are your cabana, 3 daily meals, dive or snorkel package, complimentary transfers to the island on Saturdays and use of the resort's kayaks. We are the only resort on Turneffe with an air strip making it convenient to arrive or depart any other day of the week. Our courteous and helpful staff will always make you feel at home as customer service

Had a fantastic dive trip to Blackbird Caye. The diving was incredible. Could not get enough of the walls, coral and sea life. The dive staff are all highly skilled and just as passionate about the diving as the guest. The wind came up to 25 kts during our stay. A huge benefit here, when the seas get rough, it is a short easy boat ride to the leeward side of the atoll where it was calm and the viz remained great. A lot of places, you are having a beach volleyball day when seas get rough. In addition to the diving the entire staff was amazing. Service was great, food was great, but so many of them take the time to get to know you and teach you about life in Belize from the locals perspective.

This was our first dive trip and we could not have asked for a better experience. Elroy and Eddie were an amazing dive team who really gave us a great experience every step of the way. Eddie can find anything on the reef! Elroy has so much knowledge about the Atoll and Belizean life, he is just a treasure to talk with. While here we got our Advanced Open Water And Nitrox Certifications and one of the fantastic managers, Serena, was our instructor. She made us feel extremely comfortable and put together a nice program for us. Shedhe (sorry about the spelling if it’s wrong buddy!) the other manager was so helpful and really allowed us to see the inner working of the island life. They were just delightful to have meals and drinks with. Jose our bartender and long dive day caterer is a great guy who really made our trip that much better. Mike who was with us on our long dive day to the Blue Hole was so friendly and helpful. Nasalye was a fantastic waitress who made sure our every food desire was met, and we cannot forget Freddie the world class chef cooking up fresh lobsters that Elroy and Eddie caught for us and so many other delightful dishes. We requested a cucumber watermelon salad and the next night at dinner there it was and it did not disappoint! I would also like to shout out Don Rico who manages and maintains the beach as he was very friendly and always working so hard to make our trip that much better. Accommodations and everything were really great. We can’t say enough good things and we will be back! - Roy and Kelsey Willey

So I meant to write this last year, but the review never posted. My husband and I stayed for 10 days in May 2021 and had a superb time. We were impressed by all facets of the resort- the outstanding food, exceptional dive sites and comfortable rooms. I cannot stress enough how good the food was- definitely the best food we’ve had at a dive resort. The kitchen even insisted on making us custom birthday cakes 3 days apart (my husband and I have birthdays close together). The dive boats were not overly crowded and they catered to different skill levels. Our dive guide was great and helped point out things that I’d easily miss. The dive trip to the blue hole was well organized, safe and comfortable. The transfers to and the hotel were handled very well even though we came in the middle of the week and were the only arrivals. The is a resort we plan to return to and have recommended to other divers. Finally- it was exceptionally fun to watch the hermit crabs on the beach at night.

Cannot say enough about how great this resort was! The dive staff (Ed, Emmanuel and Leo), snorkel guide Carlos (we swam with dolphins) and all the land employees worked tirelessly to make our trip perfect..and we have two teenagers!! Jose is the perfect bartender and Sereta/server gives a fantastic massage! Food was outstanding!

My wife and I have been putting away for our 30 year anniversary. Came here with no preconceptions or knowledge of the staff or accomodations. If you love the water, love good food, want an out of this world experience, just book it right now. Carlos was our snorkel guide and everything I asked to see, I saw. I am not scuba certified, my son and I did the discover scuba and Aldo took us on an hour experience near the blue hole that was life changing. I'm back to work today and I already have a mason jar at the house that says "Blackbird Caye!" I WILL BE BACK! Get busy living, or get busy dying.

This review is long overdue for such a wonderful place. We visited Blackbird Caye for the second time in October, 2021. It was wonderful to see old friends-Jose, George, and Kurt-who all remembered us. We were just as pleased on this trip as we were with our first, if not more so! First of all, the accommodations are varied. We were in one of the older rooms vs. the new rooms (which are gorgeous!) Our room (#9) was spacious, comfortable, and had everything that we needed. After all, we were there to dive, so our room was for sleeping only. The food was excellent and served very attractively. Breakfast and lunch are more buffet style. Choices for dinner are given earlier in the day and are served to you at your table. (Kurt and his staff will quickly know everyone's name and food preferences!) Dinner was always plated attractively and there were always oohs and ahhs heard when presented. Desserts were also very good. The staff found ways to make sure everyone had a wonderful meal, even when food intolerances were discovered at the last minute. The pool is smaller but big enough for the number of guests. There is a pool bar that is open during the day but closes once the afternoon dive boat returns. The larger bar is a great place to relax and talk diving. Each afternoon, some sort of appetizer was served. Drinks are reasonably priced and cocktails weren't skimpy. Now for the diving! Diving with Blackbird is top notch from beginning to end. The boat returns to the dock after each dive so if you want to sleep in and skip the first dive, you can. The dive masters are watchful and cognizant of each diver's abilities and needs. Briefings are thorough but not exhausting. The dive masters showed us anything they found so we usually stayed close by so we wouldn't miss anything. The dive sites are beautiful! Large, healthy corals. Schools of fish everywhere. This is truly one of the top two places we have gone to scuba in our almost 30 years of diving. We are already planning our return trip next year!

This place was AMAZING… we went specifically for the diving and hospitality and it did not disappoint. From the moment we booked with Dawn, I knew this was going to be an excellent vacation. We were met by Andrea and Jose and enjoyed some drinks at the marina while we waited for other guests and then were taken by boat to the island by captain Leo. Met by managers Francisco and his wife, and Kurt the food manager we were given the lay of the land and a much appreciated cocktail at the palapa bar. We stayed one of the newer villas (villa4) and it was gorgeous. Modern and clean and MASSIVE… I loved it. Beautiful screened porch with chairs and a comfy hammock. The food everyday was fabulous… you definitely do not starve and there was always hot water for tea or coffee and cookies and fruit between the morning dives. The diving was phenomenal … just amazing. All of the dive staff are so great and we were fortunate to have Ed, Elroy and Carlos as our crew on the Queen Angel for the week. 17 glorious dives. There was a ripping current that week (unusual apparently) but Ed goes with the flow 😉 and none of the dives were duds. I LOVE Ed’s style of guiding dives to ensure NO ONE has a bad experience. He is also incredibly attentive without you even noticing and gave me probably one of the best tips I’ve every been given on helping me with air consumption and I will never forget it. Probably the best person I’ve had as a dove guide ever. Elroy led dives but also captained the boat with Carlos and they are full service… they come to you. Even in choppy waters with four sharks spinning around you (thankfully Ed was protecting 🤣😉). I was sad to leave… and I will be visiting this site again. Words just cannot convey the amazing experience we had here. Note: there is a LOT of sargassum… they know this. It is the WORST thing I’ve ever smelled. The winds were definitely not on our favour that week but they bust their butts cleaning that stuff up allllll day every day. Sargassum is everywhere (thank you climate change). Do not count that against any resort who is struggling with it. Yes it was gross… but it didn’t ruin my trip.

Blackbird has the best staff of anywhere in the world I have travelled. Now I am a senior citizen and partially disabled. The staff is so accomadating and helpful. Carlos is an exceptional snorkel guide who plans our trips to be as drifting as possible. He has a great eye for spotting sea life no one else sees!!!! Jose has been the bartender for many of my visits. He tends the pool bar and makes me a "dirty banana" complete with umbrella. Kurt is food manager who I actually made smile this time. I ate many meals with Andrea, one of the Blackbird management staff. She was so accomodating, solved a big issue for me. Blackbird is lucky to have her. All the other staff members from Dawn who books the reservation and always helping to make it easier to housekeeping are the sweetest, most hard working, willing to please people ever. Francisco and his wife are wonderful managers. They too are committed to making your stay the best. My only complaint is that the cabanas are a bit run down. They needed to be painted but it was still clean and well maintained by housekeeping.

I had a great experience at Blackbird Caye Resort, where I stayed in a villa for a week and dove 19 times. Villa was great, bathroom was deluxe! Staff was SUPER friendly; meals were terrific; and the resort's daily protocol for diving/eating/relaxing was really nice. The dive operation was terrific -- fairly conservative but not bossy at all. Just a great vibe all the way around. I can't wait to go back. Also, Dawn who handles reservation and logistics for guests was the best!

Last week I spent a fabulous week at Blackbird Caye Resort, Turneffe Atoll, Belize, about 30 miles offshore from Belize City on beautiful little speck of sand. Boat ride of about 1 1/2 hr after they meet you at the airport. Met at the resort by Francisco and his lovely wife, welcomed and got settled. The food , breakfast, lunch and dinner is terrific and they will accommodate almost anything you could want. Diving was easy, boat ride was anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes. The Blue Hole was about 1 hr. and included a great bbq lunch done by the staff. followed by an additional dive on the way back. The DM's and Boat Captain were the best..... The"E team"; Elroy, Emanual, and Emicel, we couldn't have been taken care of. A GREAT fun group. a little afternoon clean up and then maybe a beverage at the Palapa Bar(maybe two??) then dinner at about 7:00. I would personally go back in a minute, a real first class operation.
