My partner and I stayed at Itza in late August of 2022, and I'm still convinced it was a wild dream. We had visited Belize the year before, and while on a day trip to dive the Blue Hole, we were so enchanted by the reefs in and around the area that we knew we had to come back. And what is this!? An island that abuts right up to the healthiest and most heavily populated reefs we've ever dove? We were sold. We ended up absolutely lucking out and being the only guests at the resort, and it was exactly the trip we were looking for. The internet was solid enough to make a phone call or two back home for proof of life, but it wasn't strong enough to reach our rooms (a perk for us!). There is an entire wall of books of every sort to jump in to, and plenty of hammocks about to pop in for a nap during surface intervals. We got to dive 4x times a day, and with Elvis, Jeff, and Hippie. An enjoyable dive is half who you're with, and each of them brought their unique and knowledgable personalities on each site. They were beyond flexible with requests (earlier dive times, multiple trips to the marine park, etc.), and it truly was the dream setup to be able to dive such pristine reefs, and really get to 'know' the geography and critters at the sites. Saying hello to Jolly Roger the resident reef shark, laying in the sand to watch the Jawfish flit in and out of their holes, and happening upon schools of trunkfish amongst the most vibrant reefs was a delight. The 400-ish pound grouper that snuck up on me? A little less so, but an amazing experience nonetheless. We were also the only divers on every site, with the exception of the liveaboard staff who came to find our leader to ask, via slate board, if they could help take someone who had broken their arm back to the mainland. Heroic -and- scenic - can't beat that! Meals were excellent and varied, and more than enough to keep even our post-dive hunger satiated. Ms. Heidi and Naya were an absolute dream-team. We never had the same thing twice (even though for some, we definitely wish we would have!), and there were cappuccinos, coffee, and tea throughout the day to give us a little jolt if we needed it. There was drinking water on-hand at all times, and my favorite way to stay hydrated was whatever pitcher of juice or horchata that came out with lunch - yum! The bar was well stocked, but we honestly were too tired to drink much. The rooms were spacious and had a pretty decent number of places to hang up clothing. All of our diving outfits were washed out, hung out to dry overnight, and largely dry by the next morning. The breeze is lovely and largely consistent, but there were a few nights that it did get quite hot. Our fan died a few days in, and we got it easily replaced, but we also had a very small USB powered one that helped out. My one and only improvement would be to have some screen doors to add a little extra cross breeze situation going on for maximum coolness. Beyond diving, the island itself is beautiful. Plenty of birds, lizards, and insects to scope out. The stars at night are absolutely stunning, so be sure to take a walk out to the dock at least one night to sit up and gaze at the milky way. There's trash that washes up on the beaches, but if you're lucky enough to be on Long Caye, take it upon yourself to pay some dues and pick it up as you walk along. A few tips for folks lucky enough to visit: -Be prepared for the boat ride from the mainland - it can get a little hairy. That includes making sure your luggage is okay to get a little wet, and you understand the weather may be less-than-ideal. We hit a few squalls on the way out, and it was certainly an experience! -The mosquitos are here to exact their blood toll, and they're merciless about it. My partner was, for the most part, unbothered, but I got destroyed. So, bring some long sleeve and lightweight cover and the big-guns of repellant. Or travel with someone who is more susceptible to getting chewed on, I guess? -When we paid for the trip, it said that gratuity was already included, but we still planned to give smaller tips to everyone. We found out that wasn't necessarily the case, so make sure to figure that extra gratuity in to your budget. -If you're a heavy snacker/can't beat that craving for chips or cookies after a dive, or a picky eater, I'd suggest communicating the latter, and bring some munchies from the mainland for the former. -We both brought camera equipment and flashlights to charge up every day, so a power strip helped us maximize access to plugs. There were occasional outages even with the generator, but it was never even a slight problem for us. Bottom line: absolutely must visit, we hope to return someday!

I travelled here in late July 2022 with my husband and 3 kids (14, 13, and 10). We had the BEST experience and highly recommend staying at Itza Resort. This island is conveniently located near some of the best dive sites in Belize. We saw many sharks, rays, turtles, tons of fish and healthy coral. ALL the staff definitely went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. My youngest was not ready to dive yet so Jeff snorkeled with him and went out of his way several times to show my son a good time while the rest of us were diving. I really appreciated his kindness so that I could relax and dive while knowing my youngest boy was having fun too. My daughter and I also enjoyed the kayaks, but don't linger on the sand near the seaweed because of the sand flies . Thankfully, we didn't have any issues with mosquitos or other bugs in our rooms or in the dining area though. My sons also enjoyed fishing from the dock. There were fans in the room that kept us cool enough. We also liked relaxing on the balcony hammocks with a view of the water from our room. The food was sufficient and we enjoyed it for the most part. If you have any picky kids, you will want to bring snacks with you because there are no other places on the island to buy food. PLEASE NOTE: If you are looking to relax on a beach this is not the place for you. There is a small sandy area with chairs and a swing to enjoy the view, but I would not consider this a swimming beach because of the sargassum seaweed that washes ashore. While the smell can be unpleasant, it didn't ruin our stay. THANK YOU ITZA staff for all you did to make our visit to Belize a fun, memorable experience!!!!

First I will say that if you are looking for ultra luxury, this ain't the place for that. What you will get is what I feel was one of the best dive experiences I've ever had and I have gone diving in multiple locations. I find that good reviews often come from people who just got their OW and don't know a good resort/instructor from a bad one because they lack the experience and they give high ratings based on their experience diving rather than the actual dive operation. This place was just plain awesome: knowledgeable DM/ instructor *first boat at Blue hole* the only boat at almost every other dive site we went to, great food (and they accommodated my veggie diet). I didn't eat the fish but I can say that a lot of it was fresh caught, in one case by Mr. Chris who was one of the DMs. Everyone was friendly and it was just a great experience. Both I and another diver had equipment issues and the DM was able to save our dives in both cases. If you are not a diver, fear not, you can snorkel right off the dock at the resort. There is also a short birding trail that I walked every morning I was there. Half Moon Caye has a colony of Frigates and Red Footed Boobies. At the resort, I saw cinnamon hummingbirds, king birds, great tailed grackles, mangrove vireos and, some others; about 20 species on a casual 15-30min walk and I am an inexperienced birder. I also used their kayaks (at no extra cost) to go birding along the coast of the island. One of the things I loved was being able to go back to my room for my surface intervals because most of the dive sites were less than 10 mins away. The initial boat ride out there is looooong but so worth it. A lot of the other reviews mention Mr. Elvis, and so will I because he is one of the things that made my stay enjoyable. His fun and outgoing personality made every dive trip great as well as his flexibility with my special requests. The only thing I really hated were the mosquitos. They are relentless! there is relief on the coast of the island and on the dive boat, but if you go into the island interior, you will need a *full* bottle of repellent to avoid paying a blood tribute to the resident mosquitos. Despite the horde of miniature vampires, I can't recommend this place enough.

Stay anywhere else , even live aboards, and you can never touch the convenience and concierge diving offered by Itza Resort. If you need a pool, 3 -5 different restaurants to eat in and all you can drink…this is NOT the resort for you. If you believe in a sustainable, away from “people” place, This is your spot. Amazing, healthy reef, great vis Diving is a 3-5 min boat ride, less than 15min to the Blue Hole, 10 min to Half Moon Caye. This reef actually gives me hope for the ocean. Apex predators like Caribbean Reef & Great Hammerhead sharks, And Barracuda all the way down the chain to a huge amount of Blennies, Jawfish, and Nudibranchs. Amazing biodiversity. HUGE elephant ear and barrel sponges. Great Wall dives, swim throughs, and amazing amounts of critters in the sand. All guided by Mr Elvis and his amazing staff…he specializes in finding things that “aren’t there”!! A native Belizean, he knows more about this reef than anyone I’ve ever met. Oh, and I met the largest Loggerhead Turtle I’ve ever seen there! We ate food caught that day, and prepared by the Wonderful Heidi. And her banana muffins…. Cold beer, good drinks. Nay takes care of absolutely anything you might need. This resort exists in a way that all resorts should. Very little environmental impact, they are reclaiming eroded coastline in a sustainable way, water is reclaimed and thrice filtered rain water. Compostable toilets, solar power augmented by generators as needed. Right in front of the resort you can view spotted eagle, and southern stingrays, permit and Jacks… fly fish for your dinner! Kayaking is easy and included, they will take you and the kayak to whatever you want to see. Pelican Rookery…check! Red Footed Boobies & Frigate Rookery…check! Bird watching, sunrise views from your bed, sunset from the boat on night dives(done every night if you want to go), or on the “sunset dock” on the other side I cannot say enough about the incredibly, genuinely personable staff. They go over and above to make sure your vacation is all you want it to be. Downsides: It’s a taxi ride to the dock and a 1.5 hr boat ride to the resort (offset by proximity to the dive sites) there is NO AC. There are fans, and a good ocean breeze, but when there is no wind, there are lots of Mosquitoes. Come prepared with bug spray, long sleeves and pants, sunscreen, a hat and a water bottle. Composting toilets and no breeze can become a bit “ripe”. (When I told them it was becoming ripe, the emptied the toilet that day) Overall, this is one of the best Caribbean dive vacations I’ve had in a long time. And I’ve been diving and doing photography since 1980.

Long Caye is remotely inhabited with only two resorts, and handful of homes accessible only by footpath. They are all inside mosquito infested areas, except for Itza, which has a constant cooling wind blowing on the property. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, with a safe. Staff are extremely friendly and accommodating. The food is really good and plentiful (3x a day + 2 snacks). Internet only available in main dining/lounge area. Diving is amazing. Elvis (the effusive, if wry manager) took us on a turtle encounter, where I was next to (as in 1' away) from a feeding turtle! Lots of rays, sharks, and coral is in relatively good shape. A day trip to Half Moon Caye with the frigate bird sanctuary is worth it.

Went for a day trip. Had to reserve lunch and order food with days of anticipation and pay in advance, non refundable. Food was not very good. Areas for diving and snorkeling around the caye are very good. Algae accumulated and rotted on the beach and there was a foul smell all over the restaurant.

This diving is great, the people are friendly and the food is wonderful. Elvis, Chris and Eduardo worked very hard to ensure we had a great trip. Three of us were either new divers or had little or not recent experience. The dive masters took this into account and were very patient with us. They were also quite flexible with the dive times, pretty much letting the group decide when to leave for each dive. The Blue Hole dive was great as well as the visit to Half Moon Caye. We saw lots of sharks and turtles. I even got to hunt lionfish. The dive sites are close by, even the Blue Hole is only a few minutes boat ride, so it's quite an advantage over a day trip. The ladies in the kitchen and bar were wonderful also. They even boiled water for me when I got stung by a lionfish. I can highly recommend this place without question.

Itza is the perfect dive destination! The staff was wonderful and made us feel at home, and the diving was truly amazing. My friends and I are new divers and Elvis was very kind, patient and great to work with- he took great care of us and we were grateful to have had such a knowledge and experienced diver with us. Chris and Eduardo also worked hard to set up our gear and make sure we were safe and had a good experience. We really appreciated the care and consideration and will definitely be back!

Our stay at the Itza in December 2021 was remarkable: never have I felt as well cared for or in more capable hands at a dive resort. Elvis, the captain, primary divemaster, and operations manager, is a unique person with a personal story like few people one can meet. He was a great host and genuinely concerned that we have the best experience we could possibly have. Jeff, our dive master and primary underwater guide, was both patient and knowledgeable above and below water. He did an excellent job in making sure we were well briefed before every dive. This level of attention wasn't limited to the dive staff, everyone at the resort was friendly and helpful. The new chef Douglas' food too was phenomenal. I'm extremely grateful for the easy reef access (less than 5 minutes in some cases!) that Itza affords its visitors as well as the amazing staff, not to mention the freshest seafood possible. The sea breeze at night too is an extra special part of this paradise you'll just have to experience to understand! We will absolutely be back someday!

My partner and I had an amazing week at Itza resort! The diving at Half Moon Caye is beautiful but I honestly loved the diving in the reefs right next to the island more. Most sites were less than 5 minutes away and full of life. Our dive master, Jeff, was attentive and patient. Our captain, Elvis, was thoughtful and knowledgeable. Douglass made delicious meals and desserts. The room was comfortable and clean. I highly recommend staying here for a dive trip in Belize!!
