If you are looking for a restful vacation on an island in paradise , then this is the place for you! We are a couple , 62 and 57 years of age, light scuba divers , well seasoned travellers, that came here a few years ago and have been back again. We could travel anywhere we wish but returned here because of the guaranteed accommodations and first class experience. The owners treat you with respect and compassion. They assist you when needed and allow you to have the experience you are after. The food is lovely and plentiful, the room was clean and private and the scuba diving is easy and beautiful! Getting to the island is part of the adventure and meeting like-minded people on the island was a highlight both times! We will return again someday to this peaceful paradise!

After many years of reading about Off The Wall Dive Centre in Belize, I finally put down a deposit to go for a week for our Canadian March Break! I am always searching for places that provide good snorkelling and possibly diving opportunities when I go south, as those are the main activities that I enjoy doing. My husband and I also love the idea of getting away from the crowds and prefer smaller more intimate places. Kendra was great to deal with and provided us with everything we needed to know about getting to their island, as well as recommendations on places to stay and things to do on our journey down, or afterwards. Unfortunately, the week we were at OTW was the start of the North American alerts/alarms and warnings about the danger of the growing spread of the Corona Virus. For one week, we all realized that we felt safe and were in a little piece of heaven before the stresses we were about to find ourselves in a changing world when we left to return home. SOME USEFUL INFORMATION you may want to know about OTW: OTW is a small eco-like resort with a small number of charming rustic cabins facing the ocean that are off the grid. One of the cabins is larger to accommodate a family. The week we were there, only 4 of the cabins were occupied. I would describe a stay at OTW to be more like “GLAMPING, “ as there are no toilets, or bathrooms in the cabins, no outlets, so no hairdryers, or big mirrors and lights for applying make-up etc. Very rustic. Our cabin, (Whale Tail) had a wonderful deck with a comfortable swinging chair, plus lounge chairs that felt like it was right over the ocean. There are 2 showers in a little building with beautiful mosaics that do not have a ceiling, so you are looking at palm trees while you shower! One of the showers does have a heat source, so it is possible to have a hot shower, but it must be very brief, as they treat all their own water. Shampoo, conditioner and body wash are provide. There are 2 composting toilets and they are in a little building with stairs. Each time you use the toilet, you have to put in a handful of wood shavings and shut the lid. They were clean and did not smell. ***Long Caye, Glover’s Reef is not close to the mainland. It is approximately a 2 hour boat ride from the town of Dangriga. Jim meets you at the airport or hotel in Dangriga with a bus and takes you to his boat. Some people prone to seasickness may need to take gravol, etc. for the boat ride, as parts of it are over open water with no land in sight and can become a little rough. On the island, any form of drinks are self serve. A container of water is provided in the dining hall with bottles of various fruit concentrates that they call “squash,” that you can add to your water. There are also containers of oranges and grapefruits and a hand juicer where you can squeeze your juice. You can bring your own alcohol. I wasn’t aware of this and wish we had brought some! If you forget, Kendra and Jim have some wine, beer and rum that you can purchase. Each meal time, Jim blows a conch shell to announce a delicious meal is put out in their dining hut, which is filled with picnic tables and has a sand floor. My favourite meal was the night they cooked some freshly caught deep sea fish…it was amazing! Most meals had some sort of flavourful beans as one of the side dishes. During breakfast, Jim and Kendra ask guests what they would like to do for the day. ie how many dives they want to do. And then they make plans. It seemed like most days there were 2 to 3 dives available that you could choose to do. The dive staff were AMAZING… Very patient and kind and knowledgeable. I was very nervous as, I hadn’t dove in a few years and the staff were fantastic in helping me overcome my fears. During my dives, I saw lots of eagle rays, some turtles, nurse sharks, many parrot, trigger, barracuda, snappers, grouper, and angel fish, a few scorpion fish and a new beautiful fish to me called: Rock Beauty. My husband chose to take it easy and just to snorkel most days. Snorkelling: It looked like the snorkelling would be amazing on the side of the island where all the cabins faced, but during our entire week there were strong waves coming in on that side, making it unsafe for snorkelling. We heard from another family that they were able to snorkel on the cabin- side of the island one day during their visit last year. The snorkeling right at the dock area (opposite side of the island to the cabins) was just okay, being mainly sand and grass. The area under the dock provided an opportunity to see a few small schools of fish. We also would see the odd stingray each day near the dock. The best snorkelling we found was a short swim away from a sandy spit that you could see from OTW. My husband and I kayaked out to the sandy spot and threw in an anchor in. Then we swam out to where Kendra had marked the reef area with a white buoy. You have to swim over a little deeper grassy area to get to it, but once there you can stand up in spots. The fish and coral were good, but there was a little current each time we swam out there. There was enough to see to keep us entertained. The island paths to each of the buildings and cabins were sand and where you would often find hermit crabs, geckos, or iguanas. It was very useful to have a flashlight to see at night walking along the paths! After dinner each night, it was dark, and people were mostly tired from their day of being active and people would retire to their cabins for the night. The paths were all lined with conch shells and little lanterns holding candles that were lit each night. Kendra has a little shop where you can purchase t-shirts and beach wear. Jim and Kendra also had a number of cute pets on the island: rabbits, two ducks and some birds in a large outdoor wooden cage. We really had a lovely week at Off The Wall. Kendra and Jim make you feel like cottage guests. It was quite the adventure, and so much more interesting for us than the giant, crowded all-inclusive resorts. If you like snorkelling and diving in a quiet and rustic setting, OTW just might be your piece of paradise.

What can I say - it was truly a relaxing, beautiful stay! Jim and Kendra were knowledgable, caring hosts in a gorgeous location. Years ago we visited the island three different times with our children and stayed with SlickRock adventures. During each of the prior times we went diving with Off the Wall and also took their Discover Scuba class. Each time it was a great experience. They had knowledgable instructors who were patient and encouraging. Through these various visits we got to know Jim and Kendra. So this year as empty nesters when we wanted to escape somewhere warm our first thought was Off the Wall. We certainly made the right choice. Our cabana, while rustic, was decorated so lovely and the "landscaping" of our cabana area was so welcoming. The snorkeling, which we did everyday, was amazing. Going just out front off the beach we saw so much sea life. The guides were knowledgable and friendly. Each meal we had was great! The whole atmosphere is just so relaxing. I can't wait to return!!

I found Off the Wall through Trip Advisor and I couldn't be more pleased with our choice to visit. Jim and Kendra have done an amazing job of creating a modest but beautiful resort that accommodates a handful of lucky guests per week. WHAT YOU DO HAVE: Beautiful and private cabanas, easy access to kayaks and stand-up paddle boards, incredibly friendly staff, tasty and nutritious food, evenings of candlelight, lovely and environmentally conscious landscaping, sea life as close as under the dock, amazing outdoor showers, all-hours access to make your own fresh squeezed orange or grapefruit juice, and swimming, fishing, and snorkeling to your heart's content WHAT YOU DON'T HAVE: Noisy crowds, fighting over a chaise lounge, mediocre meals, cranky employees, a fenced-off resort, or bright resort lighting. Although we considered taking the dive certification; (and had an initial session with amazing dive instructor Bev), we ultimately decided to spend our visit snorkeling at various locations near the island. We saw a wonderful selection of coral and animals, and I got the habit every morning of saying hello to the young yellow stingray and barracuda that live under the dock. If you are looking for a busy resort with loud music and drunken guests; you should seek another resort. If you want a quiet and meditative oasis with good food and company, (and aren't scared-off by a startlingly nice composting toilet), then I recommend visiting Off the Wall Dive Center and Resort. Kudos to Jim and Kendra!

This was our 16th time we have been to Off the Wall, and it just keeps getting better. We were with 4 other couples, all friends, and all of us repeats, having found this a great place to spend time with great friends. The 6th couple had never been there and they were a perfect fit for our group, new best friends!! Jim and Kendra are still making improvements, or upgrades, every year and this year was a new, bigger dock that must have been a lot of work, but it is wonderful. The other addition was very nice, but if I tell you what it is then more people will want to go to our oasis, so I will just sat it was a nice change. Thanks Jim and Kendra and all the support crew for another great week, and you know we will be back with more friends and more great times!!
