A long review but worth it I promise! My wife and I celebrated our 5yr anniversary with a trip to Belize. My first time out of US. Our amazing experience started before we even arrived at Portofino. In the months leading up to our trip the Portofino staff was exceptional in their communication, timely response, and helpfulness in answering my many questions. Raul, Bellini, and the entire front office staff were very informative, helpful, and made us feel much better about booking the trip. We also were able to take advantage of an amazing deal when booking our trip that they helped with. They even let me know how many rooms were filling up and how much time I had to book so I wouldn't lose the one I was interested in. A quick 15min flight from Belize city to San Pedro puts you on the island ready to go. (the portofino staff helped book all our connections and ground travel to ensure all details worked with departure times, etc. Fantastic and super helpful) The Portofino is roughly 20-30min north of San Pedro by Golf cart. All transportation is by Golfcart for tourists/locals. Moh from portofino was waiting on us the moment we landed on the island. He loaded us up we were on our way. Your trip to Portofino takes you through the city and gives you a glimpse of where you might want to go back to for sightseeing/pictures/etc. The ONLY slight negative is the road to and from the resort. Its a 6mile road from San pedro to Portofino. Its about 80% roughly paved and 20% unbearable potholes. You travel this road for virtually anything you want to do. DRIVE SLOW, TAKE YOUR TIME, and enjoy the scenery ha. Not much they can do about the roads! Once we pulled into the portofino property, Your bags are taken to your room while you are escorted to the front desk. Raul greeted us by name with refreshing drinks in hand ready to welcome us. A short check in and he walked us to our room where our bags were waiting. He gave us a quick tour of the property with some need to know information and then let us settle in and relax after traveling. We booked the VIP SUITE (Baracuda). It was its own villa just steps from the pool and the beach. From our bed we could see the pool, beach and sunrise with unobstructed views. We were thrilled with our room booking. It was nice, clean, and private. rooms come with mini fridge, standard outlets, very good internet and tv with netflix, etc. Room service came every day to clean and change out towels, etc. I wont cover the actual town of san pedro as that experience will be unique for everyone (ours was awesome, btw) but I will cover two main parts of the portofino: the property and the people. The Property: This is a smaller resort with only 17 units. At the time of our visit only about 8 were occupied by guests. this is exactly what we wanted/needed. It was quiet and peaceful every day and night. No kids, no party animals, no loud groups, just couples, small families, and groups of friends all having a good time. The pool was never crowded and most of the time we were the only ones there with one or two other people. VIEWS EVERYWHERE YOU TURN. Picture perfect palm trees and ocean views were your constant backdrop. The main building houses the bar on the lower level and the restaurant on the upper level. We ate most of our meals here and were impressed every night with the food. Simple, local, and all around great tasting food. We did not opt for the all inclusive option, but paid as we went. It was our favorite food on the island by far. We did our breakfasts and dinners here and ventured out for most lunches. The bar is open all day and night for drinks but meal times do have generous hours so you can come and go. Also on the property was the dive/water activities shop ran by Roberto and Angel. They were both fantastic and helped us book the best trip for us, which was an all day snorkel sailing trip to Caye Caulker and back. Roberto and Jason were on the boat with us and were Fantastic hosts. Made the trip personal and memorable for us. Overal we were very impressed and pleased with the property location, amenities, offerings, and all around atmosphere. If you are looking for a quiet place to get away , relax with friends and family, and enjoy yourself, this is the place for you. If you are looking for night life, drinks till 2am, loud music, party vibe, this is not the place for you. Now...for what was easily the best part of the trip for my wife and I.... THE PEOPLE. Other reviews have said it and we will too. The people at Portofino are second to none. They are hands down the best part of the trip and the stay and the reason we WILL be back at the portofino again in the future. We left genuinely sad we were leave the people. From the moment you arrive to the moment you leave you are a GUEST in their home, not a number. Everyone greeted you daily BY NAME. You never heard the word "no" but always heard "Yes, we can do that". Their attention to details and customer service was truly unmatched. From fresh bottle water, to sightseeing tips, to special requests to golf cart rentals , they did it all. Even the grounds keepers freely offered to take pictures, help with kayaks, and assisted in anything we needed, all unprompted by us. Raul and Bellini were amazing along with the night manager. Angel and roberto were amazing water hosts and are generally fun to be around. The highlight were our servers James and Ivan. We had them everyday and they brought such joy to our trip. We learned about their families, kids, etc. while getting to tell them about ours. They truly made it an unforgettable experience and went the extra mile to make every detail perfect. Everything from adjusting menus items to setting up a private dinner for us on our last night. The staff at the Portofino were some of the most kind, humble, and generous hosts we have ever experienced. Take it from someone who looked though HOURS of resorts online and debated for MONTHS on where to stay. We have zero regrets about booking here and will definitely book again. Covid Note: The resort had plenty of precautions in place without being overbearing or making it unenjoyable. We always felt safe, clean, and sanitized while still being able to be on vacation and actually relax.

Staff was friendly and helped with every part of our stay, our only complaint would be that it was hard to find due to lack of signs, but once we found it we had no complaints at all, definitely referring everyone who will listen.

We loved this resort! From the moment Mr Moh picked us up we were made to feel special. Orlene,Stephanie and Raul at reception helped us with everything we needed with a smile. Ivan our waiter in the restaurant was exceptional remembering details and always so pleasant.James did a wonderful job during our beach dinner and the bartenders Brandon and Orlando were the best. Our room had champagne chilling upon arrival to celebrate our anniversary. The resort is beautiful and well maintained. It's about 6 miles from town but renting a golf cart and driving into San Pedro or to Secret Beach is part of the Ambergris Caye experience everyone should try.The guys at the Dive shop are great and Chocolate was amazing when my boyfriend had a bad experience snorkeling. He did a great job handling the situation. The food in the restaurant was really good.Everything fresh and made to order. We will be coming back to Portofino again! Thank you so much to the amazing staff for a much needed vacation and exceptional service.

Took a solo trip to Belize in April. Staff at Portofino were absolutely amazing! Everyone was incredibly hospitable and helpful, the dive shop helped take care of all my desired water activities, and the food was great! Could not have asked for more from the experience of my stay here

We did not want to leave this resort! The communication from start to finish was great, staff on site were wonderful, the tree house suite was beautiful! We would happily stay here again! The pool was a nice place to cool off, and I couldn't get enough of our private porch and it's hammock. The resort grounds are very well maintained, and even though there was Sargassum while we were there, they were constantly working to remove it. It was located about 20-30 minutes from town, but we liked that is was remote and quite. We rented a golf cart and were able to get around just fine!
