From arrival to departure, it was just perfect. The only bad thing is that we had to leave. The beach front casita (Pineapple!) was breathtaking. Gorgeous view and step from the water. The room was luxurious and had all the right touches. The staff was amazing. Attentive, knowledgeable, and super friendly. We ate at both restaurants which were great. And the cocktails! So much fun trying them all! The excursion to Hol Chan and Shark Ray Alley was fabulous and Henry was a super guide. We had a great experience and felt completely safe even with the sharks! We also had a massage at the spa which was amazing. So peaceful. If you want an extra adventure , it is easy to rent a golf cart at the front desk and go to Secret Beach or go into town. The seagrass is present but it didn't bother us. Staff was constantly raking it up. There was a storm while we were there and a little water got into the casita, staff immediately was out to mop it up for us. There was nothing more relaxing than having the front doors open and listening to the ocean and feeling the sea breeze. The resort is small and away from the busier resort areas so you really had that private and personal experience. We did the Reef and Rainforest package which really was a great way to see the country and experience the best of Belize.…
Where do I even begin? My wife and I just spent a glorious week at Matachica. We are returning home refreshed and completely relaxed - just what the doctor ordered. Three elements made our holiday particularly enjoyable. 1. The People 2. The Food 3. The Accommodations 4. The Excursions Let's begin with the people: All well trained, professional, and extremely pleasant. They all work brilliantly as a cohesive team. To the twins 😉: Jennifer and Susie at the front desk - thank you for everything! Your hospitality was outstanding. Always quick with a smile and a willingness to help. To Wilburt, Carlos, Abbie, Florie, Jose, Leybi, Elito, and Archie in the restaurant(s)... thank you for making us feel so at home and taking such good care of us! We loved dining at all restaurants and were made to feel like family. THANK YOU! To Chris, Henry and Charlie - thank you for excellence on the water! Chris made our fishing day while Charlie and Henry took great care of us during some excellent snorkeling at Mexico Rocks (highly recommended). Simply put, the people are what make Matachica so special. THE FOOD - we didn't have a bad meal! We have been fortunate to stay at many resorts around the world - the food at Matachica, and in particular, the Mambo restaurant, was the best we've had. If you're a seafood lover be sure to get the Deep Blue. It's excellent! ACCOMMODATIONS We stayed in the casita known as Lychee - very comfortable and spacious with a perfect view of the pool and the sea. ZERO complaints. The cleaning staff were also very thorough and pleasant. EXCURSIONS We snorkeled at Mexico Rocks, rented a golf cart to San Pedro to eat at a local restaurant (El Fogon - highly recommended) went fishing and enjoyed spa services. I recommend ALL OF IT! All in all, mission accomplished! Two books read, full and happy bellies, a bit too much alcohol, hours spent poolside, time spent exploring.... what more could we ask? For those worried about the Sargasso Seaweed... it's a thing that we're seeing everywhere around the Caribbean. It didn't spoil our trip at all and wow did the staff work hard EVERY SINGLE DAY to remove it. Well done to all at Matachica! Thank you!…
I was so excited to visit! A new resident of Ambergris Caye, I've been driving by for months. Today, I finally stopped for a meal. This resort is gorgeous. Period. However, they forgot about me. The waiter brought my tea, and I literally never saw him again. I was literally the only person in the restaurant. After more than twenty minutes with zero contact, I inquired about my meal. Whoops, we forgot about you. No problem stuff happens, but please tell me why I should come back. *blank stare* No seriously, it's not a rhetorical question. *continued blank stare* Okay, you can say things like 'this doesn't usually happen' or ' next time we'll bring your food'. *Continued blank stare*. Go to Portofino instead, you'll be glad you did.
We are so glad we chose Matachica for our honeymoon! We arrived to Belize and were immediately picked up and taken to a boat to be transported to the resort. Upon arrival we were greeted with welcome drinks and given all the details of our stay. Our room was clean and decorated to celebrate our honeymoon. Housekeeping cleaned our room daily and even picked up our items for us. It was wonderful to come back to a clean room after a day of exploring! Both restaurants at the resort have great options to choose from. The staff throughout the resort were kind, knowledgeable, and very friendly! I really enjoyed the excursions that the resort offered and how accommodating they were to meet our needs. It was also nice to have the opportunity to rent a golf cart on the premise! The BEST part of the resort was playing fetch with Taco, the resort dog! Something I do wish they had at the resort is a place to purchase snacks & drinks. Once it gets dark there isn’t much to do and it would be nice to be able to grab something right at the resort!…
Archie the bartender was AWESOME! He was very friendly and attentive to our needs at the bar. He was very personable and made everyone feel welcomed. Cruise and Marlin also made our stay welcoming. The only issue was a lizard that was in the bathroom the entire stay. I informed the front desk on night one and Marlin immediately tried to remove the lizard but was not successful. Day 3: I gave the mid-stay review addressing the lizard’s removal. A housekeeper arrived at my room and did not see the lizard. She seemed annoyed and not very friendly. Day 5: I again addressed the issue during checkout and the manager basically called me a liar and said I reported to housekeeping that I did not want my room cleaned. Having my room cleaned and asking for staff to remove the lizard WAS BY FAR TWO DIFFERENT ISSUES. The manager seemed very frustrated and unwilling to accommodate my request to remove the lizard. Let me be clear about my request because I know said manager is going to follow-up with this review. I’m aware that lizards are common at the site, I’m aware that I was in their habitat. I was simply asking it to be removed because it was 1. Unsanitary 2. Made noises all night right above my head 3. I paid tooooo much money for this Sea View Casita to not have a simple request denied.…
I think they could improve. The staff was always nice, accommodating, and smiling. Always in a clean uniform. could not have been better. The grounds were kept clean. Always people working, There was a sea weed problem, but non fault of anyone there. They were working from sun up to sunset to move it out. The rooms were comfortable and clean. Zero complaints. There are 2 restaurants on site, both have a variety and serve good food. You can book excursions at the front and rent golf carts. Now in order to perfect the establishment, there is nothing to do after dark, so I think they should make sure the Hot tub is hot at night for an option. There are no TV's on site. Please put some in the rooms for your guest to relax before bed or at least add a couple to the bar area with some games, and lastly put coffee pots in the rooms. I think these things would make this resort a 5 plus. Also the internet worked perfectly the entire time.…
Super happy with this property. Staff very accommodating. Julio at Danny's treebar very friendly. Love the rooms and location. Reminds me of Africa. Frozen coconut mojito. Mmmmm. Things feel very safe here.
Aside from the bugs--and few insect repellent is provided everywhere--this place was perfect. I usually shame people who never leave the resort but I never wanted to leave. Food was extraordinary (former French Laundry chef), service exemplary (Julio, Gab, Archie, Job, Flor, literally everyone), tours phenomenal, rooms were luxurious and boutique-style. I wouldn't change a thing. Perfect.
I had the good fortune to go to Matachica Resort for my son's wedding. The entire staff makes you feel so special, like you are part of a big family. It is peaceful at the resort, it's a great place to relax, unwind, and ground yourself. The food is so delicious, and is presented beautifully by the helpful wait staff. There is plenty to do if you are so inclined. And if you don't want to do anything, the grounds provide numerous ways and places to relax. I found great solace at the end of the main dock. I fell asleep to the sounds of the waves crashing over the reef in the distance. I hope to go back again! Thank you for making me feel so special!!
This resort is just as depicted on the website (matachica.com) – regular travelers know that's not always the case. Not only is it beautiful and well-appointed, but the service is excellent. The staff learned our names and drink preferences quickly and were solicitous throughout our 1-week stay. The rooms (casitas) are spacious and very clean, each with a direct view of the ocean or, for the less expensive casitas, a view of the pool area and palm trees. The food in both restaurants (one more casual than the other) was excellent, all served with locally grown fruits or vegetables – they even cooked red snapper that we caught on a fishing excursion that the resort planned. Golf cart drives into San Pedro and to Secret Beach were fun, although the roads are a bit rough. The seaweed is a problem, but a team of 5 or 6 people spends all day working to keep it away from the beach; Matachica is not the only resort (and Belize is not the only country) to be burdened with it. It didn't affect our stay, but you have to understand that you probably won't be walking into the ocean from the beach at the resort (you can from the pier, however). Overall this was a great place to enjoy the sun, relax, and be taken care of. I highly recommend it!…
