El Pescador’s beachfront lodge and villas are situated on over 45 private acres with ambiance, specializing in fishing, diving and eco-adventures. We are family-owned and operated with emphasis on creating camaraderie and an authentic Belizean experience. El Pescador is proud of our philosophy to protect and nurture friendship, adventure and the environment. El Pescador has long been known as a world-class fishing destination offering outstanding flats fishing for bonefish, tarpon and permit. El Pescador has been the only resort on Ambergris Caye specializing in saltwater flats fishing since 1974. Since coming under new ownership in 1997, the resort has established itself as an eco-friendly tropical getaway, including a commitment to offset all carbon emissions generated by its guests flying to Belize. Donations are made on behalf of guests to a local Belizean non-profit organization, Green Reef Environmental Educational and Coastal Research Institute, to offset the carbon emissions used to travel to Belize. El Pescador was also among the key organizations to implement the new Law protecting bonefish, tarpon and permit as catch and release species. This is the most all encompassing legislation of its kind worldwide. It is great news for Belizeans, anglers, tourists and conservationists alike. El Pescador is a serene and gracious establishment on the doorstep of the world’s largest living Barrier Reef. El Pescador offers accommodations in guest rooms within its colonial style, mahogany main lodge, as well as in 1, 2, and 3 bedroom luxury beachfront villas. The villas are perfect accommodations for couples seeking romance and privacy, and for families and small groups traveling together. All rooms and villas are beachfront and have unobstructed views of the Caribbean blue waters. In addition to unequaled fishing, this first-rate resort offers all the eco-adventures which take full advantage of Belize’s exotic flora and fauna. Scuba diving, snorkeling, manatee watching, cave-tubing and zip-lining, and Maya archaeological explorations are just a small assortment of the activities available while staying at El Pescador.

This was our second visit. The location is beautiful, the people are exceptional that run the resort , Chris , Steve and Allie . The staff are remarkably individuals who from day one remember who you are , not only your name however your preferences as well . We were here on a purely relaxing vacation only and we got just that! The beach was cleaned and beautiful. The pools were lovely, the food .. breakfast, lunch and dinner was amazing .. we walked to town several times and it was great . The best part of all was just being at the resort , relaxing with friends and enjoying the lovely surroundings along with meeting very nice people! Great place in every aspect! Can’t wait to return .

We had an amazing family spring break trip to El Pescador. Only a few people in our party fish and the rest of us enjoyed the relaxing vibe at the beach and pool. This resort has one of the better beaches on the island and is a natural beach without a bulk head. The staff and service are outstanding. We rented golf carts for trips into town, which was fun, but our best meals were at the resort. We enjoyed a day trip to Secret Beach and a night at the Truck Stop, but mostly enjoyed the laid back vibe at the resort. We found it hard to leave! We had a 3 bedroom villa with a large covered porch overlooking the beach and ocean. Highly recommend this for a larger group. This is a great resort for people who love to boat and fish, but is also great for people who want to unwind.

My first time fishing at El Pescador. I had 5 days of fishing and 2 days of rest. The fishing was fantastic. The guide was perfect. Knowledgeable about fishing and the history and the ecology of Belize. He was a great teacher too. Helped me out so much! Bruce, the director, was great too. He was experienced and had many great stories to tell. THe staff? Where do i begin to express my gratitude as to how awesome they were. They are always there to help in any way. The food was fantastic. I had my birthday there- and it was the best ever!

6 of us went down to El Pescador to fish for three days, to celebrate our 50th birthdays. We rented the three BR villa, which was perfect for our party of six, with a nice big common area where we could play cards each night, and very clean and comfortable accommodations, 4 bathrooms. We got up early each day, and had guides pick us up at the dock. The fishing director Isa is very organized and helpful, and matched our experience levels up with guides that were both knowledgeable, and very patient. We had early breakfast at the lodge, then lunch on the water which we ordered the night before, and then had a group dinner each evening in the main outdoor dining room. The food was surprisingly exceptional each evening, and the atmosphere was super relaxed, with fishermen comparing notes, and talking about their day. The staff and service at this resort is without peer, truly exceptional, and our group had many points of comparison. We enjoyed sitting at the bar after getting back from fishing each day, having a few delicious rum cocktails, and then sitting down for dinner at 6:45 each night. The owners of the resort, Steve and Chris Spiro, have created a remarkably genuine family environment, where you feel like you are in their home, and they could not be more happy to have you! We swam in the pools, got massages, and had just a terrific weekend there. Fully expect that we will make it back at some point, as the fishery is remarkable (we caught two beautiful permits, and a bunch of bonefish, and January is a bit of a slow month), and the waters could not be more beautiful/pristine. A tremendous destination for those that love to fish!

The name of the lodge tells you what you need to know. This is a fishing-focused resort. A few reviewers on here mentioned they were surprised by this.....its in the name! Yes, they have nice pools, will arrange for diving/snorkeling and other excursions, but their love and focus is on fishing. And they do it very well. They offer casting lessons in the evenings, have great gear for rent, a good selection of flys, and fantastic guides. Don't feel pressured to bring your own rods. Their equipment is excellent. Sometimes you rent rods/reels at a resort and they are garbage. That isn't the case here. We have fished all over the world, both fly and not fly fishing. El Pescador does it as well, if not better, than anywhere else. We caught bonefish (both from the boat and wading) and tarpon. We had shots a permit as well. Weather and the fish were not cooperating most of the trip, but I feel our guide went well above and beyond to try to find the fish and get us the best shots. He was patient and quick to give tips without making us feel bad. The entire fishing experience was positive, even if we missed a fish. Sometimes flyfishing can be pretentious. you don't feel that here. I'd recommend El Pescador for beginners all the way to advanced fisherman. Beyond the fishing, the food is fantastic. Loved the family style dinners. Owner and the manager eat with the guests every night. The staff, all of them, learn every guests name. They wear shirts that say 'family' on them....and they act like it. I can't more highly recommend El Pescador.
