At Alaia Belize, Autograph Collection, the amenities receive high marks for their attentive service and a diverse array of pools, as well as the on-site dining and handy dive shop. While the hotel's cleanliness is widely celebrated, enhancing its charm with spotless rooms and grounds, some guests have called out issues with noise and privacy in the otherwise spacious and well-appointed rooms. The staff's friendliness and dedication are frequently noted, although occasional slow service has been mentioned.
The vibrant atmosphere, complete with live entertainment, is a hit among many travelers, despite mixed reviews regarding the value. The hotel's prime location is a consistent plus, offering easy access to local attractions.

Detailed Reviews
The staff at Alaia goes above and beyond. How they remember guests by name is beyond me. The resort is relaxing and beautiful. Although the sargassum is a problem, the beach cleaners try to make sure that it doesn't pile up (some of these people obviously have never visited a country during sargassum season & it shows). Because the country still has a curfew, of course, things have to shut down, a little bit of research could have helped people figure this out.
I enjoyed the variety of food that the resort had to offer. And let's not forget the bartenders like Dennis & Subhash the mixologist. The piano bar is a great place, especially when the pianist is playing.
The room (1-bdrm 1 1/2 suite) is well-appointed and came with a fully stocked kitchen. The bed and furniture were comfortable and the patio is amazing.
I'm laughing at the negative reviews due to the 'loud' music and DJ that was brought in for Labor Day weekend to create a fun atmosphere. Literally can tell who knows nothing about how Caribbean/Latin countries/people celebrate things like Memorial/Labor Day. FYI -stay away from Brooklyn & Miami during Memorial Day weekend. But I digress.
In all, I can't wait to return to the resort. And if you don't visit the surrounding restaurants in San Pedro, you're definitely missing out.

My group of 3 stayed here in March 2022. We stayed in a 2 room Vista suite. The room was very spacious and there was even a third toilet near the kitchen. The kitchen came equipped with dishes and some cooking pans and utensils and a large fridge with water dispenser. We ate out during our time but it was great having the water available so we could refill our reusable water bottles.
This hotel is gorgeous. Everything was clean and the landscape was immaculate. The pool was huge and I did not feel crowded. Each area of the hotel was beautiful, the pool and the beach area had great vibes. We did not swim at the beach, since Belize isn’t known for their white sand beaches. But we snorkeled out on the reef and it was excellent.
We ate dinner 1 night at the hotel, the food was decent but I would recommend eating out (taxi’s are readily available and the hotel is very helpful in getting taxi’s for guests). The food was fine, but in our ceviche, it was mainly tomatoes and in the local restaurants, there is mainly fish in the ceviche and not tomatoes. Dinner was very expensive for the food we got and I would recommend eating in town. We had the breakfast included in our rate. The breakfast was decent but we were told we had to have the same breakfast everyday, which got old after a couple of days.
We took multiple snorkeling trips and they picked us up from the Alaia dock, which was super convenient.
The hotel is a little far to walk from the center of San Pedro. We spent $20 round trip for a taxi to take us and pick us up from the restaurants. The taxi driver gave us his card and when we were done, we handed it to the waiter and he called the taxi driver to come and pick us up, great system!
We had a great stay at the Alaia. It is not a large, all-inclusive hotel so be aware of what you charge to your room. The hotel is gorgeous and I would recommend it.

Dear Laura, We're so happy you took time to write a glowing review of your stay with us at Alaia Belize, Thank you for this! It's nice learning about our guests' experiences and we're thrilled we hit the mark for you all in most aspects of your stay. The 2Brm Vista Suite accommodation type is a favorite among our guests, so we're glad to learn that you were impressed and satisfied with your unit. We're still improving by day and trying to work out the kinks when it comes to our food offerings and I've relayed your assessment to our relevant food and beverage departments, so that we can satisfactorily serve our guests in the future. Glad that you guys ventured into town to get a taste of the offerings at other locales. Once again thank you for recommending us to other travelers via this medium, and we truly hope to see you back at Alaia whenever your travels bring you back to Ambergris Caye.

This place is gorgeous! Staff is so friendly. We stayed at a Reef House, which provided very easy access to the dive shop on the pier. Loved diving with divemaster Joe and the Belize Pro Divers team here - amazing dives!! Food was delicious but pricey, and they could use more vegan-centric items and vegan protein replacement dishes and options. The main pool felt/looked like we were in Las Vegas in a chill way, but the rooftop view and pool was the icing on the cake! We thought we'd venture into town a lot but only went out once because it was so nice here. Lots of security and a whole large crew of men taking care of the Sargassum that would float in every day so it was not an issue. Our room was also just next door to a sailing rental place which the kids really enjoyed. We might have enjoyed more group activities and events, but I'm sure those are on pause due to covid.

I must start off by saying the staff are absolutely fantastic. Jesus, Ramon, and Joel to name a few were super helpful and friendly. Some of the hotel policies however, left me scratching my head. First of all, unlimited bottled water is provided each day by housekeeping (8 bottles a day magically appeared on the kitchen counter). But if you requested water by the pool, you would be charged for a bottle (ditto at the on site restaurants). There is a large carafe of water with fruit in the lobby and tiny cups - why not place several of these around the pool (with larger cups) as I’ve seen at other resorts? Secondly, we were told our 1 bedroom suite had a foldout couch. It did not…and a rollaway bed would cost $75 per night. We requested pillows and sheets so our child could sleep on the couch itself. What if we had 2 kids? Oh, and no proper curtains in the living room so the sun came blazing in at 6AM. The only real snafu we encountered was our dinner reservation at the Deck for our final night (after we’d returned our golf cart). I called from the room phone several days prior to make the reservation. When we arrived, we were told the restaurant was closed for a private event. No apology for taking the reservation in error, no offer of perhaps a free drink or appetizer at Sea & Salt for our inconvenience…just “the restaurant is closed, move along.” Overall we enjoyed the Alaia’s amenities and convenient location but would likely choose a different experience on our next visit.

Beautiful new hotel
My family and I stayed here for one week in July and loved it. We had a two bedroom 2 1/2 bath suite, overlooking the water. We were on the third floor, room 1332 (I would not want to be lower than that, or you will be facing the back of the three-bedroom units that sit directly on the beach). It was very spacious, very comfortable beds, and the most fantastic balcony. The staff at this hotel is also the best. They try really hard to make you happy, and will do just about anything you ask.
We rented our golf cart from the hotel, we probably paid more than if we had looked elsewhere, but if you rent it by the week it’s not bad and is so convenient. Also, their golf carts were extremely comfortable and of good quality, we saw some from other places that were not. If you need gas they will fill it up for you. We also used the hotel to book our Maya Air flight, it was just billed to our room. Let them know when you are arriving and they will pick you up at the airport.
While we were there, the seaweed was not bad, and there was always somebody there cleaning it out of the water. Most people utilize the pool there, and we found our excursion to Secret Beach a must. It has a much more swimmable beach. The restaurants are good, the pool area and loungers are just gorgeous.
A couple of things that need to be worked on include the availability of bottled water in the rooms. Although we had a big beautiful refrigerator, we were only given two bottles of water for the entire stay. There are no more brought to the room, like with a mini bar. There is water available to drink in the lobby in the afternoons with cups, but we found ourselves constantly going to local stores buying bottles of water. (You do not drink tap water anywhere on the island). You can of course buy bottles of water to bring to your room from the restaurants, or room service, but that gets really expensive.
Secondly, if you are an Elite Marriott Bonvoy member, (we are gold level), there is zero recognition. We asked for either an upgrade or breakfast, and were given neither. We loved our suite so it wasn’t a dealbreaker, just something that needs improvement.
Overall, the resort is stunning and I would stay there again. The staff is really great, and the location can’t be beat. I personally like staying south of the bridge near town. There also is a Covid testing center on site, which was very convenient when traveling back to the United States. if you can afford it, don’t hesitate to stay here.

The location is beautiful. The rooms are nice and clean and well appointed. There is a definite sargassum issue, so swimming in the ocean is not probably preferred, but that isn’t the fault of the property…and, they do try to work on it. Now for what did not work..the service for meals is painfully slow (not island time either) and was almost always wrong. This is an expensive place and just every time we asked for anything, we had to ask multiple times and still don’t count on it being right. I finally just started serving myself coffee at the restaurant in the morning. Other things were, they forgot to check us in, so the Wi-Fi didn’t work until we asked again, we would ask for help with a reservation and they said they’d do it right away, but when my husband would check back an hour later, the staff was just standing around talking and hadn’t done it, so you just have to stand there to ensure they actually do what they say. We enjoyed going in to town far more than staying at the resort. One day we had asked to have the room cleaned when we were down by the pool and our teenagers went up early and told us someone was building a desk in the room. We thought that was very odd, but clearly the property thinks it’s okay to just do construction work when a room is occupied….completely bizarre. We also had reserved a larger cabana and were very specific about asking if it could it hold 5 adults, they said yes, but there were only three chairs that could fit there, so that was just completely false. Also, mistakes on the bill, so watch that too. Just a lot that didn’t go right for the price.

Dear @handhos, Thank you for voicing your opinion in detail about your recent experience. Please accept our apologies for the inconveniences caused. At Alaia Belize, we do pride ourselves in training to curate memorable and positive experiences for our guests. However what you experienced does not reflect the product and service that we stand for, and it is critically important that we know if and when we fall short of our own expectations. Please know that we value your candid feedback and the same has been shared with the respective areas for both corrective actions and reinforcement of our service philosophy among our associates which we will look to rectify and improve upon immediately. We do hope you choose to stay with us again when your travels bring you back to Ambergris Caye.

This resort is clean and well maintained. The pools are well laid out and allow for choices. The people were all friendly and helpful with anything you needed. The view from our room was amazing. Although staff cleans the seaweed from the beach on a daily basis, there is an occasional smell from it so we spent most of our time at the 3 pools. They have someone cleaning the beach at all times so it stays much cleaner than other resorts we saw while walking the beach.
They have sanitizers all over the property and ensure everyone sanitizes before entering the building each time. One of our favorite things was the rooftop bar. The views were great and it was very relaxing to swim and look at the ocean as well as through ports in the pool floor that allows you to see down to thr lobby foyer area.
Be sure to ask for Walter and Elite Travel as the BEST (!) taxi service option to renting golf carts (not recommended on your first visit ). It was our first visit to Ambergris Caye and Walter (& his team of drivers) were always available and making recommendations on the best places to see and eat during our stay.

+1
Alaia is a brand new, busy, upscale hotel in an area with a lack of luxury properties. The hotel is an aesthetically pleasing, beautifully designed property with plenty of things to recommend for it. The staff is numerous and friendly, the resort has a wealth of amenities and the location is great, south of downtown but a quick golf cart ride away.
The clientele of the Alaia is very diverse and included families, honeymooners, wanna be influencers, and lots and lots of revelers. The beachside pool and cabanas are gorgeous and we would have liked to have spent more time poolside if it hadn’t been quite so rowdy (and the pool water so cloudy). The food and drinks at the restaurant were good, albeit expensive ($65 for an egg breakfast for two people?!).
As scuba divers, my family truly appreciated the dive shop located on the property. After pouring a cup of complimentary coffee in the lobby and grabbing some towels by the pool, it’s less than a five minute walk to the dive pier. We had no problem making our early morning dive. The spa and the workout room looked to have nice facilities though we didn’t have time to make use of them. The beach, well groomed and free of seaweed, was really unusable because the water is unfortunately brown and murky.
There is a level of inattentiveness with the poolside service that should be improved upon. We rented a cabana one day and were able to order lunch by hitting the service call button. After our meal was delivered, service was completely nonexistent. Not one waiter noticed our dirty glasses for hours and no one checked on us asking if we needed anything. There is so much staff by the pool, we expected a little more service than what we received.
We stayed in a two bedroom ocean view Alaia Suite with a very large, well decorated balcony overlooking the pool and beach. Although the rooms are beautifully furnished, clean and large there are a few issues that should be addressed to elevate guest’s experience and comfort. Other than one small towel rack, there were no hooks anywhere on which to hang wet towels. We hung our towels on the back of dining room chairs. There are no shelves in the shower, so toiletries had to be placed on the ground. Mold has already started to grow on the grout between the tiles in the shower which could benefit from a good cleaning. The lighting in the bathroom isn’t very bright so a lighted magnifying mirror could be helpful. The sheets on the bed are rough like sandpaper which is actually painfully if one is suffering from a sunburn. Lastly, the headboard of the bed is surrounded by LED lights which can be dimmed but not turned off. If you like a dark room, the light is disturbing.
All in all, we enjoyed our stay at the Alaia. Should we return to Belize, I believe that a smaller, boutique property would be a little more to our liking.

Thank you for sharing your candid feedback, both positive and constructive, @Miss_Merry_Mak. We always aim to deliver a great experience, and we are gutted when we don’t fully meet expectations. Thanks also for taking the time to bring these issues to our attention. We will use it to make us better and to ensure an improved experience for all ages and to elevate guest’s experience and comfort. On a lighter note, we're happy you found our on-site dive shop as a highlight to your trip and were impressed with your accommodation type. While we understand a smaller boutique type hotel may be more to your liking, we would appreciate a second chance to turn things around.

Enjoyed new Alaia Marriott hotel campus on Ambergris Caye over Thanksgiving. Pros: sparkling clean, friendly staff, enormous pool area with fountains on sometimes, one dedicated manager everywhere (thank you, Pablo David R.!!), the only suspended adults only rooftop pool in all of Belize, and stunning quiet beach and cove to swim in. We also heard at the end of stay from another guest, guests can enjoy free kayaking or SUPs. Have the yummy coconut mojito or a Dirty Monkey! Cons: no bathrobes in small minimalist room upon arrival (took two calls to get them and both were small women’s sizes), thermostat battery conked out one night at 8 pm so maintenance man had to come fix, out of towels at fitness center the afternoon I went and while tasty, no hot tub and no coffeemakers in the room, plus food is outrageously expensive at both on-campus restaurants. If you asked nicely enough, server will bring you free tap water with your meals. On a funny note, the shower has only partial glass covering each so if you’re not a couple, it’s a little awkward. Bring TP and wear sensible shoes for the water taxi ride;) or next time, we will be taking the puddle jumper over from Belize City to the island. It cost us $198 just to get us two from Belize City to the hotel with a 90 minute boat ride each way.

Room Tip: Fly via airplane to Ambergris Caye. The water taxi takes far too much time.

This resort is a great getaway in a destination that’s full of hospitality. Get a Belikin beer or cocktails at the swim up bar from Josue. Get daily coffee or cocktails from Javier & Priscilla at the piano bar (they’ll literally smoke any cocktail you want). Brighten every morning with a smile and a “good morning” from Gibron at the front door. This resort has all the makings of the best luxurious stay in you’ll have in San Pedro.
Rent a golf cart and adventure around the Caye, sit by the pool and have cocktails brought to you, just don’t miss out on the food. Lots of vegetarian and vegan options (which surprised me), get the quinoa roll at the rooftop bar. As well, they have incredible fish options, in particular, their reimagined ceviche was absolutely fantastic.
Need an excursion or dinner reservation? Ask for Almira, she has all the connections and set me up with incredible restaurants and tours the entire week I was in town. Too many excursions? The K’In spa was surprisingly well staffed and my deep tissue message was exactly the self help I needed.
For the modest price this resort rents rooms for, it’s the easiest decision you can make for a getaway, just don’t be surprised if you find yourself lamenting having to leave!

They have a section where you can walk in by the older part of the resort. I am not sure about directly in front of the resort. They were working on a seawall. It looks like it would have to be stairs to go down to the beach. Hope this helps. Have a fabulous time.
It's all about location. The Reef houses are nice, just not the newer Vista suites. They are right on the ocean, not a high rise, and more of a home style. The Vista suites are in a high rise and are the newest. But all of the rooms are clean with a modern feel. Reef is in a more quieter area of the resort.
