We stayed in one of the beautiful homes for two weeks in the begining of June - Every day we would kayak out to the reef and snorkel. It was so amazing. Up the beach is a great bed and breakfast and down the beach is rojo- a fun place to have a few cocktails.

La Perla is a beautiful, quiet area north of San Pedro Town. We stayed in the Opal villa and we had an extremely relaxing time. La Perla had arranged transportation for us from the water taxi and Jorge (the taxi driver) also stopped at the grocery store for us to stock up on

Thank you for the review of La Perla Del Caribe - Villa Opal. We are very happy you enjoyed your stay and were able to take advantage of the in-villa chef services we can arrange. The food is always fresh and local and there is no better way to spend the first night at La Perla after a long day of traveling. We look forward to having you come stay with us again!

Hello and thank you for your question! There have not been any other reports of the scorpion in any of the villas. I personally feel very comfortable and travel with my kids to Belize often. The Villa is fully enclosed, but it is a tropical location and scorpions do live in Belize. I suggest shaking your shoes before you put them on and zipping up your suitcase when not using it- or hang cloths in closets. This is just to be certain, but it's not a common issue. I hope that helps! Kristin

As with most all of the island, the water is very shallow and has sea grass. The beach itself is soft white sand. The reef is 1/3 mile of shore and you can take our kayaks out there to snorkel - there is a mooring right at the reef across from La Perla.

Good morning Dimitri: Provided that there is sufficient wind, we can assist you in renting windsurfs. Another popular sport on the island is kite surfing. There are shops that give lessons in both windsurfing and kite boarding. If you would like more information you can contact our reservations department directly at toll free 1-866-290-6341 Thank you Rene

The water taxi is definitely the way to go. San Pedro is quite a small town, and the water taxi is only two or three blocks away from the airstrip. When I booked at La Perla, they have it all arranged for us, so our taxi driver showed up at the airstrip, drove us the three blocks, and loaded everything for us onto the water taxi. I tipped the guy a few dollars. He also asked us whether or not we needed to go grocery shopping beforehand - you should totally do it, as supplies in town are cheaper than up north. I don't imagine you need much transportation minus going into town - the water taxi is I think $11US per person each way, but we sometimes just got a whole boat for $40 each way. The town itself is very small - just a few blocks wide and maybe a mile or two long, and walking is definitely the way to go. You can rent a golf cart for $40 or so a day, I believe, but road conditions are spotty in town, and definitely poor outside of town.
