While this resort is beautifully appointed and in a great location, the owner is unforgiving and erratic. My brother (a repeat customer) booked 4 rooms for 5 nights to celebrate his fiancee's 50th birthday. The first night, the smoke alarm in my room went off every 42 seconds. The ceiling was high and there was no way to reach it. No on-site manager. NO SLEEP. Finally at 5am, I was able to reach the owner, who sent "maintenance," who turned out to be her husband. She offered a small credit on the room. On our 4th day, the on-site manager showed up and told us we were being EVICTED and had until noon to vacate the premises. WHAT???? The resort had a complaint about people being in the hot tub at 1:30am. It closes at 10, but access is still available. I assured him it wasn't us - we were inside celebrating the birthday. He still insisted we leave. Again, I said it wasn't us. He responded that they had security footage to prove it. When he showed us the footage, it clearly was not our party. It was another party staying at the resort. He still said the owner was insistent that we leave. I called the owner and she confirmed that she wanted us gone; that it was inexcusable for us to be in the hot tub at that time. I, again, told her it was not us and she told me to identify the party. Again, WHAT? Not my job. To be fair, we were in the hot tub past 10pm and I admitted that, but what she was so upset about was 1:30am and a young child being present. That was not us! It took about 2 hours of frustration and limbo, but we were finally allowed to stay. Surprisingly, so was the offending party who was never threatened with eviction. It put a huge damper on our party. I have never been treated so summarily or so rudely. Ironically, I'm an attorney whose profession is bound by "innocent until proven guilty." Apparently the Rod and Reel operates under "guilty until proven innocent" and then they still reserve the right to evict you!…
We enjoyed every minute of our stay at the Rod and Reel Resort. The room was clean, pretty and incredibly well designed for maximum storage and ease of use. We loved the heated pool, spa and the grounds were quite wonderful with comfortable furniture throughout. We loved our hours looking out over the aquamarine waters. We enjoyed biking on the pretty streets nearby and were able to ride to get breakfast each morning. The kayaks were comfortable and we saw a good number of dolphins on our outings. Daily walks to Bean Point were spectacular and sunset views were a short walk as well. The host and staff were considerate and very accomodating!
The Rod and Reel Resort is quite small but perfectly formed, set in a fantastic location, right on the beach and next to the Rod and Reel, the beach itself is quite small but a short walk along the coast takes you to Bean Point and its perfect sunsets. It has been refurbished to a very high standard, and the bikes, paddleboards and kayaks were a real bonus to borrow for a few hours. A perfect place to spend some time relaxing and enjoying exploring this wonderful island.
I can't tell you how much we appreciated the design and updates done onsite at the Rod and Reel. I cannot imagine a better spot for a multi-family vacation that was intended to facilitate strengthening ties, catching up with family spread across the country, and gathering frequently for meals, and group events. All this while still maintaining our private spaces as welll as adventures in boats and boards and bikes. We held a water olympics, an auction of grandparents 'treasures' with play money, cooking lessons of favorite grandmother recipes, ping-pong and corn hole tournaments, and aggravation and boggle tournaments. We watched old movies of the cousins together as kids, who now have kids of their own, and their kids now know their cousins. The remodeling done has created an absolutely beautiful space inside and out and the fence arrangement kept the little ones safe and parents alert but not constantly in alarm mode. Ty and his assistant were very helpful, readily available if needed, and went out of their way to make it a really carefree and special week. Anyway, kudos to the whole staff - it was everything we hoped for and more. 5***** easy!!!! Lisa P …
A group of nearly 40 of us gathered from all around the country to honor the legacy of my grandparents. Suzette could not have been more helpful beforehand answering all our questions and concerns. The property and location were absolute perfection. Clean, updated, well designed, and well staffed. Ty and Tanye took care of any issues that popped up throughout the week quickly and unobtrusively. When we had a technical problem with old family movies that wouldn't work on their newer systems, Tanye let us borrow her personal computer! We could easily all gather in the large common spaces for family events and meals, but there was also plenty of privacy around the property as well for smaller groups to chat and have a quiet moment. No need for babysitters - the layout enabled the little ones to sleep in their rooms for naps or bedtime while the grownups gathered to play games and have late night chats. All the amenities were outstanding from the huge kitchen to the SUPs and kayaks to the beach toys to the ping pong table and bikes . . . we used it all and I just cannot say enough about how wonderful this place was. Morning runs to enjoy the sunrise, playing in the pool and beach all day with cousins and aunts and uncles, and evening kayaks to enjoy the sunset. Absolutely incredible! We hope we are able to return someday soon!…
