My husband and I stayed here 4 night. Requested house keeping only one of the four nights during our stay, but asked for fresh towels and extra pillows the morning of our last day. Got back to our room that evening to discover they brought only one fresh towel each and only one pillow total?? Called down to front desk on my cell phone because the room phone was broken, spoke to Robin and she said they were out of clean towels. I explained to Robin that we made the request in the early in the morning. She responded by saying most people only use one towel. Really?! Then why do most normal hotels provide 2 bath towels per guest in a double occupancy room?! The attitude is unacceptable. Do yourself a favor and skip this place.
The free breakfast is not free. It's listed as part of what is included in the $15.00 facility fee. A fee that was not disclosed to us until check in. The fee includes newspapers (of which I did not see any), 24 hr coffee bar in lobby, parking, 24 hr exercise room, computer & fax services, outdoor pool, WiFi, and afternoon cookies or wine on specific week days. Most hotels include this items in there normal fee. And the breakfast buffet had fewer items than any other hotel we stayed at during our 2 week vacation, staying at 10 different hotels. The room was very nice. King size bed. There was a refrigerator in the room, but no microwave. The bathroom had a very noisy fan. And another switch, which I believe was for a heater, was even noisier. The toilet took a lot of water to flush and took a long time to flush. Water temperature, during my shower, fluctuated. I had 3-4 episodes of short bursts of extremely hot water. This could be a really nice hotel, but it needs a lot of work in the bathrooms and needs to simply include the facility fee in the normal room rate, rather than artificially lowering it's published rate. Unless they address these items, I won't stay here again.…
We stayed one night after attending a wedding in the area. Rooms were super basic but the public areas had some nice touches. The pub (with a nice pool table) was fun for the post-wedding festivities.
We were there for a wedding, and a block of rooms was put aside for the guests, at a discounted rate, for what we paided per night, I would hate to see what they get for the room at a regular rate. We were not in the main building, but in one of the road room. Our first night, the bed felt like we were sleeping on rocks, it had a feather topper that had been washed but never fluffed. The AC didn't work, and it was a very humid night, and the toilet was really low to the ground, my husband is 6 foot 2 and his knees were at about a 45% angle. We listened most of the night to the people upstairs, pounding around. The next morning I went to the front desk, only to hear someone else complaining and the person behind the desk telling her there were no more rooms. So I didn't say anything. We opened the windows, that we found out after, were not locked. We fluffed the topper, it didn't help much. I am dealing with an knee injury and needed to use the fitness center. The elevator was no near the front desk and I had to go up the stairs. We took morning showers, and then noticed a buldge in the wall next to the bed, and it was wet. When we told the front desk, they told us, "We can't move you, we have no other rooms." Really! The person behind the desk didn't seem to really care, she did say "I'm sorry to hear that I will let maintiance know". We had the wedding, thank goodness for alcohol, we did sleep, but woke up stiff due to the very hard bed. We checked out before 8am, didn't want to stay any longer than we had too. I have stayed in road side motels that had more amenitys. There was no direction on where anything was, or how to use the wifi. There was no security lock for the door, I put a chair in front of the door for the night, remember the windows were not locked. I will say the room and bathroom was very clean. The grounds were very well groomed and the main building was just as the pictures showed. If you need handicap help, they had 1 elevator that we were aware of and it was all the way at the other end of the building. I can't speak of the restraunt, just that they had odd hours,…
If there were more than 2 hotels in Avon, this one would be rated even lower. Like some fancier hotels, it charges an "amenity" fee on top of its quoted rates, which is more annoying when you find out what they consider amenities -- a restaurant (that wasn't open the night we were there); free parking (it's out in the country and has plenty of space in its roomy lots); an ATM, laundry services, and pet-friendly rooms (all for an additional fee).. Get the idea? We didn't use any of these "amenities" and were NOT pleased when our sleep was disturbed by a yapping dog in the room next to ours. You expect US to pay extra for that?? Here's what this "hotel"doesn't have -- luggage carts, bellhops, or elevators, either to the second floor of the newer wing at the bottom of the hill or between the lobby and the original building/restaurant/row of rooms up the hill. We asked for another room so we could haul in all our stuff without having to trudge up and down stairs and were told that it would cost more. It seemed worth it --until we saw how many things in the room were broken... The colonial decor was pleasant, with watercolors of local spots in rooms and the halls, but that doesn't make up for poor maintenance. And no info was in our room describing what the hotel offered, where things were, or when they were open/serving. I couldn't find the restaurant the next morning (it's tucked behind a bar) and the limp steam table breakfast being served was scarcely worth the hunt.…
Let me start by saying that the hotel is beautiful and I really enjoyed my stay. The room was so nice with a 4-poster bed and the grounds of the hotel were so nice. However, there were a couple of front desk customer service issues that happened that made me take two stars off. When I arrived to check in, there were two people ahead of me. The front desk employee was spending a very long time with the customer (there was some sort of issue with a reservation made through Travelocity). The employee went into the back and now two employees were trying to solve the problem. I waited for ten minutes before another employee came out and asked why there was such a long line and then finally, there were two employees to help. I don't think it should take a total of fifteen minutes to check in at any hotel. Since I needed to get to a wedding, I quickly left and forgot to ask what time breakfast is. When I came back to the hotel later that evening, there was a line at the front desk so I went to my room instead and tried to call the front desk and no one answered. That's pretty bad to not be able to speak to anyone at the front desk. At 8:00 am the next morning, I asked the employee at the front desk where the pool is. She gave me directions and when I got to the pool, there was an employee cleaning the pool and the gate was locked. The sign said that the pool opens at 10:00 am. I asked if I could come in to just sit on a chair and read and was told no. That's fine but it would have been nice if the employee at the front desk had told me what time the pool opens rather than just giving me directions to somewhere that's closed. Although disappointing, I decided to sit on one of the Adirondack chairs instead but they were all wet and dirty. I went back to the front desk and explained the situation and the employee told me that there's no maintenance available on Sundays to clean the chairs. This sounded ridiculous to me - I would assume that weekends are the busiest times - why are the chairs there if no one can sit on them? I asked if there is anyone available to clean the chairs and the employee suggested that I sit on the bench out front. I told her that I wanted a chair in the sun and finally, she agreed to call housekeeping to ask if they could clean the chairs. She went into the back to call them and then called out to me that housekeeping would take care of it (which they did). The front desk is what gives customers their first and last impression. It's unfortunate that my experiences with the front desk were unsatisfactory because the hotel is so beautiful. Just wanted to mention the breakfast. The hot breakfast is only Mon-Fri. It's a continental breakfast on the weekends which was disappointing. It's not an inexpensive hotel and a hot breakfast should be included. The continental breakfast consisted of bagels, muffins, oatmeal, cold cereal and oatmeal in single serving cups that you can add hot water to.…
Very efficient and pleasant place. Was able to eat well without leaving this location. All employees were helpful. Room was adequate w comfortable bed and good shower. Dinner in the bar area was good. Waiters were pleasant. First experience since covid shutdown. Glad for a nice place.
The hotel is lovely, overall, and the room was comfortable and clean, with nice amenities. However, we noticed that the toilet flushed very slowly. I called the front desk and was told they would create a ticket for maintenance to address the issue, but since maintenance leaves at 3 pm, no one would look at it till the next day. We were only there for one night (May 5-6), which meant no one would be addressing this while we were there. The front desk said I could stop by to pick up a plunger, which I did. We spent a good deal of time using the cheap plunger to no effect. The end result was that we could not use the toilet for our stay there. This was most uncomfortable. When I checked out there was someone different at the front desk. I told her what happened and she apologized. She told me she could not refund me as I had paid for the room through a third party, but encouraged me to petition Hotels.com for a refund, saying she would back me up. I contacted Hotels.com on May 14 and the rep called the hotel to verify my claim. He explained that the hotel said they had not taken any notes on my complaint and they refused to support my getting a refund. The hotel boasts "New England charm," but fell really short. I would not have left a review at all if they had made good on supporting a refund -- but I spent a terrible night and then they failed to live up to their promise to make it right. I recommend steering clear of this untrustworthy establishment.…
We were fooled by the nice photos on their website. This is by far one of the worst places we have ever stayed! The old worn out spring bed will make your backs begging for a break! The noisy heating can put a jet plane to shame! The paper thin walls kept us up until past midnight carrying neighbors conversations! There is no blackout drapes, the room was flooded with the street lights from the parking area through the white sheer curtains! Top it all with a very rude front desk!! This is like a cheap highway motel at the price of a resort!!
The room was clean and comfortable. The king size bed was fantastic. I slept better than on my own bed! We ate breakfast on the morning before leaving and it was quite good. We didn't wait for brunch to begin but they had a huge selection of food out. The staff was professional and friendly.
