Detailed Reviews
If you want the St Regis, stay across the street. If you want the same/better location, staff that treat you like family, complete relaxation, scrupulous cleanliness, old beds but fresh linens, a lobby filled(but not too filled) with storytellers and hallways filled with stories, this is the place.
One minute walk puts you on the bus to Highlands or Snowmass. 2 minutes to the Ajax gondola. 3 minutes to the J-Bar at the Jerome.
My main complaint is that I didn't discover this place in 1980.

Okay, it's a bit worn and the St. Regis across the street is a glitzy behemoth, but at about a third of the price, I'll take old but great location, clean, nice size room, and pleasant staff. Our first visit to Aspen and only spent one night but Mountain Chalet was a great find. Large king size room with sitting area, homemade cookies (not the prefab Doubletree kind) in the lobby, across the street from the transit hub (and the free bus to Maroon Bells) and just one block to downtown shopping and eating. Breakfast was included, French toast, eggs, and sausage, served by the pool. Get over the fact that it could probably use some new paint and enjoy the fact that you got a great deal just steps from the Prada and Gucci stores!

We (group of 8) ended a ten day backcountry ski tour at the Mountain Chalet near the (hopefully) end of COVID. Given complexities of people, room types and need to have bags shipped to Mountain Chalet prior to our arrival, I booked directly with Bob. They accommodated our every need, are in a great central location next to shuttle to Aspen lifts and 3 blocks from Aspen Mtn gondola. The included breakfast was phenomenal - fixed menu daily plus plenty of sides, fruit, yogurt, etc. They shuttled us to the airport to get rental cars, provided bag storage and showers on our last day of skiing after checking out. This was by far the most accommodating and pleasant travel experience I've had in years. Will definitely stay here again.

Had an early flight and the night before arrival was told there was no-one in the room and we could check in early. Upon arrival, it turns out someone had taken the room. All fine, check out at 11, so in theory the room should be available at 12. However, no-one asked the staff to prioritize and when I requested (sitting in the lobby next to my empty room (door open) was informed cleaning services "has to go in order". I've watched them clean 3 on this floor next to the lobby and not the one I'm waiting for. The Manager, a grumpy elderly man didn't apologize, rather insisted check-in be at three and "that's the way it is". Avoid.

We stayed here for 3 nights based on the pet friendly policy and more affordable cost (for Aspen). Our room (114) faced the pool.
Although the breakfast staff was super friendly, the location very central, and the free parking handy, we just didn’t enjoy this hotel. Each of the three nights we were woken up by inconsiderate guests coming back late and having passionate conversations around the pool area; we could also hear the people above us walking around.
The parking is limited and tight with all of the SUVs, but luckily we could get a space each day when we needed one (even with a pass) - others weren’t so fortunate and would have to turn back out.
Upon arrival in room, our dog was constantly sniffing under the baseboard heaters - turns out there was a big gap in the floor, and a good amount of dog food was in there. I cleaned it all out, but for a $30/night per fee and a Service Fee added to our bill for Housekeeping (even when our room wasn’t serviced), it’s not great customer service. The woman at check out thanked me for letting her know, and then charged me full price.
Rooms had a fridge and safe, but no coffee maker. Coffee is available in the lobby,

Wow, just wow ! This hotel is magical. Me and my girl had the best stay ever at Mountain chalet. This hotel has unique feeling about it that’s hard to put in words. It’s not a new flashy hotel, it’s a heirloom full of history you will grow to like. The bar upstairs is the best place in Aspen to hang out. The free breakfast was really good with freshly squeezed orange juice. It made our stay a lot more convenient and affordable. Mountain chalet not only have the best prices in town, the people that work there make you feel like your right at home.

Before we chose the hotel, we did our research and expected a perfect experience and all went as planned. It was our first visit to Aspen and we had a long drive from the Bay Area. While we were approaching the city (~2 hours away) , the hotel staff made sure we were on our way and our journey was comfortable. Initially , we decided to spend Christmas at the the hotel and move on for New Years to a bigger city. Fortunately, the hotel staff gave us such a positive experience from the first minute we checked in , we decided to extended our stay until 01/02/2021. Each and every member of the hotel makes sure that our experience just gets better from that point on. From the manager of the hotel to the reception staff to the restaurant staff, we would like to thank each of you for such a wonderful experience.

Check in was quick and friendly. We had requested a ground floor room because of our arthritic dog. We got a great location and the room had a small balcony that Skadi ( our dog) immediately claimed for herself! The location is beyond perfect. Afternoon cookies and a breakfast that reminded me of the ones I had at the hotels in Europe. I would highly recommend the Mountain Chalet to anyone wanting the homey, non cookie cutter travel experience

Couldn’t have asked for a better location ! Great park across the street and walked to everything. Road our bikes to basalt along the rio grande trail - beautiful w lunch at woodys. Loaded our bikes on the bus and rode back to aspen for free- the bus station is literally across the street from the hotel . Clean, breakfast ok, really well run and just felt safe. St Regis next door w a great bar. Book it !

Air conditioning worked very well. No issues.
Yes there is an elevator and fridge and microwave in room, not sure of handicapped but the reception staff are brilliant and am sure they will be able to help you, we enjoyed staying there and hopefully it will be suitable for your needs too
We were there at the end of May, low season, and the pool was empty and being repaired. I assume they planned to finish it before the busy summer season. The price was reasonable, location good, staff especially friendly. There were fresh baked cookies in the afternoon, and a substantial breakfast buffet with hot entree included. There is also a park with playground nearby. It's an older, family owned hotel, not deluxe, but well maintained, clean and comfortable. Hope you have a great time!
