Detailed Reviews
We go to Aspen for loads of reasons, and usually the top one is to ski. In which case, there is no better place to stay than The Little Nell. To truly spoil yourself, take advantage of the fact the rooms are literally a 30-second walk to the gondola. Which means you can ski in the morning, come home for lunch and relaxation, then go out again and close the day. Also, staying at The Little Nell means you can go for First Tracks which is for hotel guests only and allows guests to go up the mountain an hour before it opens to the public. When you're done, you just drop your gear off at the ski concierge, so there is no uncomfortable lugging around of gear, even boots. I also love there is a complimentary transportation service via private cars and shuttles to get you around town. Aside from that, the hotel is right in the center of town so everywhere is walkable. Plus, the food is incredible, Ajax Tavern is such a fun place for Aprés (and it's right at your doorstep), there's great art all over the hotel, there's a great restaurant and fun wine bar, the service and staff are impeccable and The Little Nell manages to do all this while feeling, plush, inviting, relaxing and unpretentious. There is an intimacy to this hotel which makes a quiet place of luxury. And did I mention every room has a fireplace?

As an Aspen local, I chose the Little Nell to surprise my husband for an overnight staycation for our anniversary. Recent service and food and beverage, as well as disruptive clientele, at other local luxury properties ruled them out. The Nell lived up in every guard to its distinguished reputation for service, from the front door and valet greeting, to ease of check in and room preparation. Every detail was attended to, personal preferences noted, flowers for our anniversary and chocolate covered strawberries with a Happy Anniversary in chocolate "note". Every aspect of the experience felt fresh, even though just after an exceptionally busy holiday season. The staff shared great esprit de corp, attention to personalized service, and job satisfaction, pretty low in aspen right now. In room dining was prompt, food and presentation was exceptional, including a wide selection of choices for breakfast, all day dining and dinner. The room was romantic, very light and fresh in decor and appearance, as is the hotel, the entrance, apres ski gathering room, even the floor hallways and elevator had a gorgeous beige with blue detail carpet. We made a same day decision to stay two nights instead of one, told we would not be able to stay in the same room. Before we arrived, reservations had "waved a wan" and we had a room for two nights, which truly enhanced our relaxation and enjoyment. Great break for us, in a warm and relaxed environment, despite a long weekend during ski season high vibe. With the average price for a room during winter break of $945, staying at the Nell, in an exceptional guest room, with sitting area and fireplace and balcony, around $2050, quality supported the value. Do it again in a heart beat, which we would not at any other Aspen property.

The Little Nell is a true 5 Star boutique hotel in the heart of Aspen. My wife and I have been a repeat guest at the hotel for several years and find the staff to be some of the most helpful and efficient we have experienced. The condition of the property, and details of the guest rooms are far superior to some comparable hotels. The ski gondola is just steps from the property for summer adventure or winter skiing. Located in the heart of Aspen, shopping, dining and town parks are all within a short walk. Note that the hotel has done an outstanding job of re-opening during this virus crisis, and while some details have changed at the hotel and businesses in Aspen, it did not affect the wonderful experience of a Colorado mountain town in the summer!

My stay at The Little Nell was a hotel experience above any I have had in decades. I stay in decent quality hotels for frequent business travel (this was personal travel) and they do not compare to The Little Nell. The size and features of my room, the bathroom, the fitness center, the hotel dining and common areas, were all light-years above those of any hotel I've stayed in over the past 25 years.
The staff were all very friendly and responsive, especially the Concierge, parking and housekeeping staff (I didn't deal much with other hotel staff during my stay). A stay at the The Little Nell may cost a little bit more than other hotels (but all hotels in Aspen are more expensive than in non-resort areas - this town is up in the mountains after all), but if you visit Aspen for any reason, you should try this hotel. It was well worth the price, and you'll remember staying at The Little Nell.

My family (2 boys under the age of 9 and wife) and I stayed at the Little Nell for 8 days and 7 nights in June of 2021. We were coming in hot off of Covid and a missed 40th the prior year for my wife. So we went all in on accommodations with a suite for such an extended period. As much as we enjoyed the location and promise of The Little Nell, it unfortunately undelivered.
1) The pool service was terrible. Depending where you sit on the pool deck, you may or may not ever talk to a server. On one occasion, I had to ask if our area of the patio was ‘off limits’ for food because we were ignored while the waiter took orders from other guests. Most days, we had to find someone to take our order.
2) The Element 47 service was not good. We ate there some mornings, but after several breakfasts with poor service we ended up going to a small cafe down the street. There was one meal I would have tipped 20%, but oddly they force you into tipping 20%. We would always order a side of peanut butter for our youngest son, and 50% of the time, it wouldn’t come. I had to ask for coffee and water refills more than 50% of the time. They would consistently mix-up who ordered what when bringing out the food. It was almost like they opened Element 47 that week for the first time ever, with an apparent steep learning curve.
3) The pool was frigid. Then too hot. Then yesterday, cold again. Another family from Denver was at the pool where we discussed this.
4) On a random Tuesday, we waited for 20+ minutes to receive just water at Ajax. Of course, we decided not to order any food after that. After a while of staring at employees in an attempt to determine WTF, it appeared the bar tender was drinking and giving alcohol to other Ajax employees. I have yet to hear an apology on this one.
5) Of course, this trip was about my wife’s birthday (two actually). 40 and 41 because it was missed last year. The hotel, despite being acutely aware of this because of my itinerary (I had setup 4 birthday dinners in fact), did not wish her a happy birthday, did not send a card, champagne or chocolates, or anything. Truly bizarre.
6) I had to ask the concierge multiple times about the same topic or reservation. It was like Groundhog Day. Every time I'd call, it was like reintroducing myself as the dude living in your hotel for a week who has one or multiple activities planned every single day. If not for my persistence, I would not have had an itinerary I desired.

For Ski in Ski out, nothing compares to Little Nell. Just the Ski Valet service alone is worth the trip, but it included First Tracks, which got us up and on the freshly groomed cordorouy by 8:15. Then ski back, jump in jacuzzi, float in heated pool, and hit the tavern.

A getaway to Aspen is always wonderful and I'd often heard about the Nell and how great it was. I never truly understood or appreciated the rave reviews until I was able to stay there in mid-January 2021 and wow, I was amazed. First up, the rooms are so well-appointed, spacious (we were in a Town Side Guest Room) and fresh (design is more contemporary and light/airy than what you typically find in a mountain town). As the website says... there's nothing standard about this. They have thought of all the things being a ski resort hotel. We chose to enjoy all meals in our room due to Covid and the in-room dining was exceptional. The burger from Ajax with truffle fries is a must and I was also so impressed with the room service latte (as funny as that sounds)... it's the little things! We also felt very safe within the hotel and all the staff were super responsible following the meticulous precautions the hotel has put in place. Lastly the staff, no doesn't seem to be an answer at the Nell and everyone was so lovely and helpful.

The location is a 10. The staff is wonderful; super friendly, attentive, knowledgeable, and responsive. The food is excellent (we only tried their breakfasts). But upon returning home when we checked our bill, we were overcharged by 50% of our total room cost, two rooms for which 100% of the cost for 8 days was paid for upon booking. If we hadn't opened those bills (something we don't always do) we might have missed it! The reason I am slamming them here right now is because of the responses from multiple individuals dealing with our call. They asked us to provide copies of our emails with the confirmation, which we luckily had, but why were WE the ones who had to prove that we'd paid upfront? They said that only the deposit was paid (and then retracted that upon further investigation). My point? CHECK YOUR BILLS, line by line. It felt really off to me and has left a bad taste. WIll not be staying here again although it has been the hotel of choice for my family for decades.

The Little Nell does not disappoint. Even during tough times in the travel industry, the staff at The Nell made my stay memorable and made me feel comfortable. You get what you pay for at this hotel.
It’s a 5 star property through and through from the physical location at the base of Aspen Mountain to the teams that work the front desk, concierge, front drive and housekeeping.
I feel completely welcome, made to feel like family, addressed by name and already looking forward to my next visit to hit the slopes in December.

I really can’t say enough good things about The Little Nell. It is simply put, a gorgeous, extremely comfortable and welcoming high-end hotel, sparing no expense to make one’s stay as perfect as possible. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by name and treated like royalty by the professional and well-trained staff. Our room was perfect — a good size and well designed and furnished, lots of plugs for devices, a lot of hooks for hanging wet clothes, very comfortable bed with really nice linens, fire place, usable balcony, big tub and a separate walk-in shower, huge bath towels, heated floors, and complimentary snacks and soft-drinks. The fitness center is very nicely done, not huge but more than sufficient for a good workout, and clean and well taken care of. There is a modest size outdoor swimming pool and a jacuzzi. The library near the spa is worth a visit, just to enjoy the decor. As noted above, service is impeccable. The location adjacent to the gondola and ski lift is an obvious plus (though we visited in the summer, so the ski-in and out aspect of the hotel was not a factor for us), though note that the noise from the gondola is audible at the pool all day and was audible in our room when we had the balcony door open. Our mountain-facing room was extremely quiet at night; I am a noise sensitive sleeper and this is always a plus for me. The fabulous Rio Grande Trail is a short distance from the hotel and great for running and biking. All in all, it was very difficult to leave after three fabulous days at the Nell. This is a first rate hotel.

It’s wonderful to know that you enjoyed the many comforts of your room, from the cozy fireplace to the thoughtful touches like heated floors and complimentary snacks. We're glad you had the opportunity to experience our amenities, including the fitness center, pool, and the inviting library near the spa. Our location next to the gondola is indeed a great advantage, and we appreciate your understanding of the ambient noise during the day. We're also happy you had a chance to explore the beautiful Rio Grande Trail. It was truly a pleasure having you with us, and we hope to welcome you back to Aspen soon for another fabulous stay! Thank you again for taking the time to share your experience. Best, Henning Rahm General Manager
