RTR is one of our favorite vacations spots. We have visited six times, and the last time we were fortunate to stay for two weeks! The staff led, by the Van Berkum family, treats us like one of their own, always making us feel special and part of the ranch. David and Jane Van Berkum manage the horse program, and their expertise is amazing - I have no idea how they remember the names of each horse and who is riding them during the week and match each guest with a horse so adeptly. And they are attentive to making changes on the rare occasion it is requested. Jane's horse orientation on Monday morning is thorough, and you instantly know RTR takes this seriously. The wranglers are fantastic - not only demonstrating their skills every day but making you feel part of their world for the week. They are truly special people. The fishing is terrific on the Conejos River, and the guides are great with the ability to provide guidance to fisher-people who have different skill levels. The food is phenomenal, the housekeeping staff is top-notch, and the involvement of the Van Berkum family can be seen in every aspect - we always saw Linda and Doug and their grandchildren working tirelessly to keep things humming. Sometimes I feel like they are working 24/7! The lodging is comfortable with log cabins that are always well-suited to our family of four complete with wood burning fireplace. We did visit during COVID-19, and knowing the Van Berkum family the way we do we knew they would do their utmost to make people comfortable and address concerns. They were always open to address guest's requests such as dining on the wrap around porch instead of indoors. They took temperatures each morning and were often seen cleaning around the property. Bottom line is that we love RTR and will join them again in 2021. They run an amazing operation which has become a second home for our family. Our kids first visited RTR when they were 7 and 9. They love the ranch so much. They are now 16 and 18, and they really can't imagine skipping a year. The Van Berkum family and staff have given us family memories that will last a lifetime. We can't thank them enough!

Property's Favorite Review
We visited RTR in June of 2019. It was our 3rd trip to RTR as a family. This is without a doubt the best family vacation spot. There is something for everyone from horseback riding and hiking to swimming or just relaxing in the gorgeous setting. Doug and Linda and Jane and Dave are wonderful hosts and take great care of everyone. Our children have loved the kids and teenage programs and the counselors are always the best. I’ve never worried a minute about my kids at the ranch. The riding is phenomenal at every level from beginning to advanced. The wranglers make everyone comfortable. We will keep going back even as our children grow up as there is nothing like RTR. Oh - I forgot to mention the food - incredible!!

2020 was a bust…except for our June trip to Rainbow Trout Ranch! As quarantining restrictions loosened, we started looking for a last minute summer vacation. Something different to escape being at home. I called Linda at RTR and because of cancellations we were able to find availability. Our family of four (8yr old girl and 5yr old boy) hopped in the car a few days later and headed from Arkansas to RTR. Wow! What a find! The scenery was spectacular. The horses were majestic. The accommodations were cozy and peaceful. But what really makes RTR special is the people. The staff and the family were amazing. They helped create one of the best family experiences we have ever had. We conquered our fear of horses and created memories that will last a lifetime. We look forward to our next visit.

We spent our mini-moon at Rainbow Trout Ranch and had an absolute blast. The staff is amazing, the property is beautiful and the food was great! We met some incredible people and really felt at home during our stay. Highly recommend for couples or families (we happened to go during the adults-only week). The horse program is top notch and all of the wranglers were amazing. We would DEFINITELY go back!

The ranch is beautiful, clean and well maintained. The staff is experienced and very helpful with anything you may want or need. The owners, Doug and Linda make you feel right at home the minute you step foot in the door! Many activities daily or just enjoy sitting on your porch enjoying the gorgeous views!!
