This place is a mixed bag. The location was great, less than a block from the main drag, so close to restaurants, shopping and the water, which was lovely. The beds were comfortable. Our room had no view and barely a window. Their idea of a breakfast offering did not approximate anything like a meal. Cookies, instant hot chocolate and lemonade. Our shower was near to impossible to turn on, and it was even nearer to impossible to find the hot water. Catalina is suffering a severe drought, and this waste of water felt horrible and unnecessary. There was a cubby with a frosted-over fridge and small microwave, but no cups, cutlery, or anything that might facilitate food preparation. The person who checked us in was very cordial.
It was a good experience until I left My iPod pro and I located thru my phone it was still there, The maids were already there and claim they didn't find it, but my tracker said it was in the room..Watch out with your stuff left behind cause there's dishonest ppl there..
Had to get away from smoky air due to fires and because too much restrictions due to Covid we were glad to find this island open. Large room and spacious bathroom with jacuzzi, beautiful courtyard garden with music and fireplace lit in evening, beautiful paintings, frames showcasing island and its history, over-all cleanliness is good, I thought bed was hard but hubby said soft and we slept very well, no coffee first day but was there the next day, juice fountain all day, walking distance to the beach and the rest of the shops and sites, no staff in office at times but easy to reach and responsive, they were kind to let kids stay to finish up online class after check out and let us keep our luggage in the lobby before our ferry ride. We were able to do some activities although some are closed due to Covid but had great time doing submarine experience, hike to the garden, tour by shuttle and kids did aerial adventure/obstacle course on treetops, enjoyed the beach, clear, clean waters... food was pricey but very good, social distancing observed throughout the island and visitors and locals compliant with mask use, and sanitizers and clean restrooms all over the place, great experience...rooms pricey but expected as everything costs a lot to be shipped to this island, hoping to come back with more friends and family...…
first off this place is great! Catalina is known for its folksy charm and places that you can stay .. this place is no exception. . but we had a great experience with Ignacio the asst. Manager! He was great we stayed in one of the view rooms (best view we have ever had in Catalina) and were very comfortable in a renovated room that had most all the comforts to make our stay great! Thanks Ignacio!
King room was nice size, very large bathroom, super clean, lovely fire pit to sit around at night. Downside is getting into building after 7pm you must enter thru courtyard and hike up a number of steep stairs. Also bed was rock hard.
We were traveling with our two 20ish children. We wanted real beds for them. We got a room with two kings. The beds were great! Also, we needed to stay a bit late on the last day of our stay and the staff gave us a late check out that made it possible for us to scuba dive that morning. We didn't see anything about breakfast on the advertising, but there actually was coffee and some small items for breakfast. That was a nice surprise. They had a fire pit. We went out and met some really nice people. That being said, some constructive criticism: - the shower water temperature only got to lukewarm; - this room is definitely in the process of being upgraded - some of it needs a bit more "love"; - no one was ever at the office - we solved that by going up the street to the sister hotel - probably better if they just tell you to go to that hotel rather than trying to call them ...…
Very , nice room and the staff it was great , they replace the older tv that was a lot working for a new one, I was impressed how fast they take care the problem, I recomend this hotel and I will coming back again!
We booked 2 rooms for the mom's and the daughters. Rooms were large and roomy. Huge bathrooms with sliding barn doors. Close to beach and stores. There was a large fire pit in courtyard area that you could sit at in evenings and chat. They had coffee & doughnuts in the morning. Only downside was that we had to check in at main hotel and walk thru to the courtyard side. We arrived early so we left bags at main office and spent the day in town before we could check in. Front desk check in was quick, people were nice. Will be back if on island again.
My husband and I stayed in this hotel with our son during a three day weekend in Catalina. The check-in was a 2pm but they allowed us to put our bags in the front office as we waited for the room to be ready. The Courtyard Garden Suites are connected with the Hotel Catalina so I guess sometimes you have to go over there to speak to someone at the front desk? It wasn't an issue for us so I couldn't say for sure. The room was clean. At Catalina, we don't really worry about getting "nice" and "large" rooms because honestly you don't want to spend time in your room while there. I will say that the bathtub in the bathroom was huge but the bathroom door didn't have a lock. The weirdest part about the hotel, however, was the music that constantly plays in the courtyard? It isn't calm, restful instrumental music, but rather upbeat country music played loud enough that we can make out the words to the song. I'm not sure what time they turn it off but it was still going at 9:30pm when we had our son turn in for bed. They turned it off when we asked, but I don't feel like we should have to call the hotel staff and ask them to turn off music at night so we can sleep? Just something to keep in mind as I'm not sure why no other reviews mention it.…
Separate cottage was idea for 2 young kids celebrating a 21st birthday! Staff was great also! Short walk to stores and restaurants was effortless. We will definitely be back in a few months. We hope to bring some friends that have never visited the island before.
