    Nice budget experence
Unless you are a Walker, this property is up a steep hill. We would have had a better experence with a crescent Avenue property. Room was large with a nice kitchen. Scarcely furnished, but adequate for two nights. Noticed that the smoke alarm was missing and the heating unit did not operate properly most of the time even though they sent maintenance twice. During the day front office was not manned. Had a sign to use red phone. No breakfast during off season and nearest food place was down hill on crescent ave. View of harbor was excellent and was highlight of staying here.

    Very Nice Digs
We travel each summer with our neice and nephew. We like to have separate rooms and bathrooms and this year we decided we would like a kitchen. And did El Terado Terrace fit the bill!. We had a complete kitchen and a bed and bath for us downstairs and two bedrooms upstairs, each with their own TV - perfect for the teens. The hotel was very clean, very well maintained and well managed. Catalina is alot of fun and we walked and walked as well as went on all the tours. So it was really nice to have a kitchen and a dining table. There is a small grocery store that is fairly well stocked for the tourist trade and we really liked being able to prepare our own meals as home. Many of the hotels in Catalina are right on the beach - and right in the middle of all the tourist stuff. El Terado Terrace is away from the beach and nicely placed so that we felt less in the middle of all the crowd. Yes, we were very pleased with our stay and would stay there again.

    It's like another home
My trip to Catalina was amazing, staying here at El Terado made me feel right at home. The staff is welcoming, the rooms are supplied with luxuries-comfy beds-and not to mention the ocean side view! I highly recommend staying here,it's a comfortable, affordable, spacious, the town is right down the street! I loved it!

First, I’d suggest the advertising is misleading, as it shows a picture of the hotel in such a position that it appears the hotel is facing Crescent Ave, which is parallel to the ocean. Even though the hotel & address is listed 118 Sumner Ave & does not face the beach. However, it’s just a stone’s throw away. The lobby is dark & a bit dingy looking, however, Christian who was at the lobby desk was very courteous, professional & accommodating. We arrived early & could leave our luggage in a room just next to the front desk, which we were told had surveillance cameras for security. Our room was ready in less than an hour. The first room we were issued was literally over a roof with a less than desirable view & smaller than the picture on the website. I asked for another room & was promptly given a much better room. It was larger, better appointed, with a view facing Sumner Ave, but we could see the greenery, mountains & lights. The hotel location is very convenient, right in the middle of everyplace we visited & needed. The downside…there is a Bar just past the hotel, 2 doors away & loud music, loud talking, yelling, screaming kept me awake. (Despite the double paned windows) I eventually fell asleep; only to be awakened again at approximately 2AM. There were also autos playing loud music going up & down the street…with booming subwoofers…fully intact! Called the front desk, no answer, so I looked up & called the Catalina Police Station, which happened to be diagonally across the street from this Bar! I don’t know how they didn’t hear all of the racket. At any rate, an officer walked over to the Bar & shut it down. Upon checking out we again left our luggage, as the Catalina Express departure was 3 hours later. (I told Christian about the noise, etc.) Came back to get luggage & Christian told us we were very nice guests. That was nice to hear. Would we stay here again? Only if that Bar is gone or the room was way at the opposite side of the hotel!

There is no service after checkin. There’s literally nobody here. You have to call on the phone. The man who answered was really rude. Checkout time was 10am! In my 65 years on this planet I’ve never seen a 10 am checkout. I got it only extended to 11. I asked for later but they refused. Our boat isn’t until 4 pm. They also refused to store our luggage. The toilet broke. The walls are thin so you can hear the neighbors. And it’s up a very steep hill. We certainly didn’t get our 971 worth for only 3 nights. Avoid this place at all costs!

For the price I would have expected far more than what was received. Rude reception clerk. The bio say’s 55 inch TV’s. Not even if you added them together. Or could get them to turn on. No WiFi. All the roll away beds were stores right outside the glass door. We found a fuzzy muffin in one of the drawers. Along with what could only be months of dust and other nasty stuff. The kitchen cabinets appeared to be hung by a blind carpenter. The walls in every room had black smudged hand prints all over. The upstairs had no A/C. Only floor models. That tripped the circuit breaker if you turned them on. While we pretty much only slept here it was one of the worst experiences I have had in decades.

Friends had stayed and recommended this hotel. They must have stayed in newer rooms…There were 4 of us adults with extensive travel experience around the world including some sketchy hotels in China. We know what’s what. Our room was 2 floors with 3 bedrooms. I will let the pictures speak for themselves. Beds were clean and firm but that’s it. All the rooms , bathroom and kitchen were grubby. Carpet nasty and the front door had a hole in the bottom. Hair dryer was coming off the wall. Bedroom patio was functionally useless but had a nice glass table with a large used ash tray. We did not enjoy our stay. Would not come back.

We stayed three nights and overall it was a very poor experience. The good: The beds were clean and it included a one-way pick up from the ferry terminal to the hotel. The bad: Before we even checked, I contacted the hotel bu both email and phone (left a message) because I had some questions. No one contacted me back. I should have take. This as a sign. The smoke detector was removed from the wall (we later found it at the bottom of a drawer). When we checked in the person at the front desk barely spoke. We never saw someone at the front desk for the rest of our three night stay. We needed to use the phone at front desk to call. The two times I used the phone, the person who answered was extremely rude. At one point, the bathroom door was locked and we could not get in. I called to see if some one could come and unlock it. When they finally came after the two calls and 5 hours, we were explained (and told it was our fault) that it was an outdoor style lock and they did not have the key so the lock would need to be removed. We stayed here, hoping to have housekeeping. We were told that due to LA county restrictions, they were not allowed. Which is not true, that restriction was lifted nearly 6 months ago and housekeeping is allowed as long as guests are not in the room. The kitchen was very limited (there was an incomplete set plates and pans but no wine opener, grater, measuring cups, etc to cook). All the doors including the glass sliding doors, all opened to common spaces. There was MOLD in the bathroom. Worst of all, other than the beds being clean, it was dirty and falling apart. Half the light switches did not work. The heating did not work. It smelled. Paint was bubbling from the walls. Bottom line: unclean, rude staff, don’t stay!

This place is in serious need of care. So surprised to see 4 stars on TripAdvisor, because it is not deserved. We had an ocean view room, and it had multiple issues. First, there is a gap at the bottom of the door. Second, the bathroom has peeling paint, and it looks like possibly mold on the ceiling. The bathroom lights would not go on, so we called and they sent someone. The shower stall needs cleaning and the ceiling in the hall outside the shower needs painting… looks marked up. Stains on some bedding. Looks like maybe green paint. In all, it really needs some proper care. That said, it was a fabulous price. I imagine this is partly from the location and lack of services. Still, even at a great price, you expect a place to be clean and cared for. On the plus side, the views are decent, but you have to stand on the walkway to best enjoy them. The room was large and includes a kitchen, so you can cook some meals. In all, next time I might spend more and stay elsewhere. With all the closures of 2020, you would have thought they would have taken advantage of the slowness to make sure rooms looked good.

Haven't stayed here. Was about to coming next month. But decided to cancel my reservation...or at least attempt to before being charged any fees. The email I received from the hotel regarding my reservation confirmation lists an 800 number for cancellations. No one answers this number and your left to leave a message. So far no response has been given to let me know that these messages and my request were received. I tried responding the email listed on the confirmation as a point of contact (which happens to also be where my confirmation had been sent from) and it is not a registered email address. Tried going to their website and clicked on the contact link to leave my message through there and the captcha verification defaults to not recognizing your entry. At this point I am frustrated and worried that I'll be forced to pay fees for this cancellation or charged as a no show since there really isn't a reliable point of contact for this hotel. Making me feel like I dodged a bullet with changing my mind about staying here. Still no response from my voicemail messages I have left for the hotel. As someone who has worked for hotels, I usually don't mind spending the extra money to book directly through the hotel rather than third party, but this is one of the instances that is making me regret that decision. Beware of making any bookings here directly through the property.

The front desk person on arrival wasnt very “welcoming” - the room was clean - a mini kitchen - good if u have kids to feed . A nice walk from the Catalina express - a bit of a steep hill getting there - If u have problems hill walking - basic hotel a little under $200 dollars a night.

We were only there for a heartbeat checking in late and leaving early. But here’s what I thought. The location is not a far walk from anything just uphill to get there walking. The area is very quiet like most of Avalon, it’s in a residential area and a cozy tucked away area. Our room was very spacious with a kitchen and countertop. But there was a strange scent in our room. I think from a lot of smoking in the bathroom. Hopefully just our room was like that. I haven’t really stayed anywhere else in Avalon, I would return here since the value compared to others was cheaper.
