Detailed Reviews
We were very happy staying at El Terado Terrace Mini Suites & Townhomes. The kitchen was small, but fairly well-equipped. The beds were clean and comfortable, we had an ocean view. The shower and bathroom was small but efficient. We were allowed to check in early and check out late, a big plus. The location is close to the Harbour, but also a good starting point for hiking inland. It takes about 15 minutes to walk from the ferry terminal. The staff was reasonably friendly. Unfortunately, El Terado doesn't allow storage of luggage after check out; this forces travellers to use lockers located at the ferry terminal. Also, (a fairly minor point) there is usually nobody at the front desk during office hours, rather one needs to call a phone number and then someone will answer the call and arrive at the office if necessary. Overall, a great experience.

Unless you are a Walker, this property is up a steep hill. We would have had a better experence with a crescent Avenue property. Room was large with a nice kitchen. Scarcely furnished, but adequate for two nights. Noticed that the smoke alarm was missing and the heating unit did not operate properly most of the time even though they sent maintenance twice. During the day front office was not manned. Had a sign to use red phone. No breakfast during off season and nearest food place was down hill on crescent ave. View of harbor was excellent and was highlight of staying here.

This was a really good choice. Well equipped suites with lots of Everything was very clean. They have a lovely terrace with bbq's. Great views because it is at the top of the hill but we are seniors and managed to drag our luggage up there. Would definitely recommend.

Haven't stayed here. Was about to coming next month. But decided to cancel my reservation...or at least attempt to before being charged any fees. The email I received from the hotel regarding my reservation confirmation lists an 800 number for cancellations. No one answers this number and your left to leave a message. So far no response has been given to let me know that these messages and my request were received. I tried responding the email listed on the confirmation as a point of contact (which happens to also be where my confirmation had been sent from) and it is not a registered email address. Tried going to their website and clicked on the contact link to leave my message through there and the captcha verification defaults to not recognizing your entry. At this point I am frustrated and worried that I'll be forced to pay fees for this cancellation or charged as a no show since there really isn't a reliable point of contact for this hotel. Making me feel like I dodged a bullet with changing my mind about staying here. Still no response from my voicemail messages I have left for the hotel. As someone who has worked for hotels, I usually don't mind spending the extra money to book directly through the hotel rather than third party, but this is one of the instances that is making me regret that decision. Beware of making any bookings here directly through the property.

+1
Friends had stayed and recommended this hotel. They must have stayed in newer rooms…There were 4 of us adults with extensive travel experience around the world including some sketchy hotels in China. We know what’s what. Our room was 2 floors with 3 bedrooms. I will let the pictures speak for themselves. Beds were clean and firm but that’s it. All the rooms , bathroom and kitchen were grubby. Carpet nasty and the front door had a hole in the bottom. Hair dryer was coming off the wall. Bedroom patio was functionally useless but had a nice glass table with a large used ash tray. We did not enjoy our stay. Would not come back.

We arrived & attempted to check in at El Terrado Terrace. I was surprised of Not seeing staff available for questions. Our shuttle driver, went directly to the check in window, reached in and retrieved our room keys, I was very surprised. This is the first incident in my 40yrs of Hotel check-in to literally assist ourselves to our room without speaking to staff?
Throughout our 2-night stay, there wasn’t any staff available for services. I called the number posted on the website and never received a call back?
A sign is posted on the office window, stating if we need anything we need to ask between office hours. We went by the office on numerous occasions during office hours and Never witness staff available. This was disappointing as we needed room service and supplies.
We checked out and checked-in at Canyon Catalina Inn. Wow! Did we make a great choice. Staff was present as we checked-in early. We were able to store our luggage till our room was ready. We had to check out from El Terrado Terrace at 10am which I find it to be absurd!! Canyon Catalina Inn has an on-site restaurant which we enjoyed an Awesome & De’Lish breakfast. Our room was ready by 11am perfect timing, we retrieved our luggage and went to our room. Staff is very courteous, efficient, & helpful. I will definitely be staying at Canyon Catalina Inn, upon my return to Avalon.
I suggest to others Read the reviews before you reserve.

For the price I would have expected far more than what was received. Rude reception clerk. The bio say’s 55 inch TV’s. Not even if you added them together. Or could get them to turn on. No WiFi. All the roll away beds were stores right outside the glass door. We found a fuzzy muffin in one of the drawers. Along with what could only be months of dust and other nasty stuff. The kitchen cabinets appeared to be hung by a blind carpenter. The walls in every room had black smudged hand prints all over. The upstairs had no A/C. Only floor models. That tripped the circuit breaker if you turned them on. While we pretty much only slept here it was one of the worst experiences I have had in decades.

There is no service after checkin. There’s literally nobody here. You have to call on the phone. The man who answered was really rude.
Checkout time was 10am! In my 65 years on this planet I’ve never seen a 10 am checkout.
I got it only extended to 11. I asked for later but they refused. Our boat isn’t until 4 pm.
They also refused to store our luggage.
The toilet broke. The walls are thin so you can hear the neighbors.
And it’s up a very steep hill.
We certainly didn’t get our 971 worth for only 3 nights.
Avoid this place at all costs!

We travel each summer with our neice and nephew. We like to have separate rooms and bathrooms and this year we decided we would like a kitchen. And did El Terado Terrace fit the bill!. We had a complete kitchen and a bed and bath for us downstairs and two bedrooms upstairs, each with their own TV - perfect for the teens.
The hotel was very clean, very well maintained and well managed.
Catalina is alot of fun and we walked and walked as well as went on all the tours. So it was really nice to have a kitchen and a dining table. There is a small grocery store that is fairly well stocked for the tourist trade and we really liked being able to prepare our own meals as home.
Many of the hotels in Catalina are right on the beach - and right in the middle of all the tourist stuff. El Terado Terrace is away from the beach and nicely placed so that we felt less in the middle of all the crowd.
Yes, we were very pleased with our stay and would stay there again.

I was so looking forward to my stay at El Terado Terrace. They came highly recommended. I had made reservations a month and a half earlier. Less that two weeks before our arrival date I got a call from Ivan. He said that he had to cancel our stay because we only booked for one night. WTH, why was the room even booked, then ? Ivan did offer to book a room at another place, but as not knowing anything about the other place I declined.. Ivan also offered to give us a room at 50 % off the next time we came to Avalon.. Ivan, there will not be a next time..

Response from elterado, General Manager at El Terado Terrace Mini Suites & Townhomes
Responded Apr 24, 2014
Thank You for your review!! First off, we do not cancel reservations if they are 1 night bookings. In fact, we are one if not the only Hotel in Avalon not to require a minimum stay, off-season. Over 50% of our reservations are one night bookings. The reason I told you I wanted to relocate you was due to some hotel repairs that were going to be taking place during the time you would visit our hotel, you declined and you canceled the reservation. I also offered a 50% off your next visit to Avalon, and you also declined.

Lots just ask. Call 310-510-0831
As far as I know they do - why else have the mini-suites. Catalina is certainly a great place for kids. Just call and ask - they are very friendly and I called several times with questions. They were always very helpful.
