The week of my reservation, CA government prohibited travel due to rising COVID cases. The hotel was unhelpful in rescheduling my reservation and only allowed cancellation which required forfeiture of one night's room fee. Visitor beware. Use a friendlier hotel with better understanding of public health policy.
La Paloma Las Flores is a hidden jewel on the beautiful Catalina Island. Located a couple of blocks from the strand, the hotel is an easy ten minute stroll from the ferry landing. This hotel has a funky, old school charm with beautiful garden views and a feeling of privacy. Not recommended for those with ambulatory disabilities as the rooms are accessed by steep, external stairs. A cozy, well appointed room was supplied with the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in. This is not a polished, sterile inn but rather an old school row of LA bungalows built into the hill. Very friendly staff. Close to groceries, restaurants and shops. Pets are not allowed.
We were looking for an affordable hotel with great views, which is not easy in Catalina. La Paloma is it! The place isn’t fancy, but it’s super cute and clean. It has a big pergola within the walkway and beautiful plants along it. We stayed in room #9, which has great views plus a kitchenette. Again, remember it’s a simple room with older furnishings (it’s an economical choice), but it’s clean. The hotel has many stair steps to climb due to its unique layout, so be ready to carry your bags a bit or ask for a street level room. The staff is super friendly and lets you store bags in their office.
This was a last minute COVID-19 trip in hopes of making our summer a bit better. Booked a few days before and it went smoother than expected. We were greeted by super nice family and beautiful vines and flowers. The hotel room met basic needs and just enough room. Super great management and the location is fantastic. There's a Vons maybe 1-2 min walk from it!!! It's a great hotel for a budget trip!
We were trying to book while Covid broke out and we had to change reservations several times but they were very accommodating and understanding the whole way through. Upon arrival, I loved the decor and setting of the cottages. They came with everything we needed and more: full stove and oven, all necessary cooking dishes and utensils, heater, even offered complementary face masks in the room. Management was also very understanding to allow a late check out and didn't dime and nickel us for every scenario. They were so hospitable and that goes real far in my books. I will definitely be booking here again when I return to the island.
