When arriving, one noticed the musty smell in the room. Then we noticed ants crawling all over the counter and up along the wall by the Jacuzzi bathtub. The floor of the Jacuzzi bathtub was unstable. The toilet was practically on top of the Jacuzzi bathtub. Not a pleasant experience. On top of everything one had to walk by the wooden holder for all the trash cans which was sometimes overflowing.
My wife and I had a great experiecne with this place. We stayed 2 nights. We were supposed to stay 3, but we got sick the day before we were supposed to arrive and couldn't travel. The hotel gave us a partial refund for the night we missed, which was wonderful of them. The property itself is somewhat rustic, vintage, etc. It reminds me of a place I stayed on the Italian Riviera when I was there like 20 years ago. It's not fancy, and the rooms are kind of small, but they are nice, the shower pressure is good, and the beds are comfortable. The price is very reasonable as well, and it's a great value for the money. Re: location - this place is about 5 minutes walk off the main drag, so it's not right on the beach, but since it's a bit off the main drag it's quiet, and it's right near a grocery store (Vons). Overall a great value, and I would definitely stay again.…
This is not a luxury accommodation. It is perfect for a short stay on the island. I'd also recommend writers and artists stay here because it's so charming and could inspire your creativity. The exterior is neat and tidy, with beautiful flowers and vines. There is a little breakfast every morning with hot coffee and pastries. The front desk is courteous and helpful. The rooms are small but have everything you need for a few days on the island.
This hotel is cute and offers a beautiful tropical garden experience as you walk the property. Pros: convenient yet quiet location, beautiful exterior, breakfast of pastries, fruit, OJ, coffee from 8-10ish each day, each cottage has a kitchen with microwave, fridge, stove. Cons (room 8): our mattresses were old, lumpy, and the blankets had stains. Our dresser was broken and had only 1 of 3 working drawers, dark closets with rusty hangers, musty odor throughout, trundle bed is custom made from welded metal and is heavy and difficult to pull out/sharp edges due to plywood base. I am not sure we would stay here again unless we couldn't find a better deal.
I found the place okay which is a nice walk (1-1.5 mile) away from the dock. This was my second time on Catalina but first time staying overnight. I stayed 2 nights and it was nice. Not luxury at all or something to take pictures of but it serves its purpose. I appreciated the full kitchen. The breakfast the serve was donuts and pastries which was nice but not for me but I did take a banana. They also have a vending machine and is not far from restaurants. I did not know about the extra fee which they took when I arrived but was part of the tax/groupon. Be mindful of that. They will have recommendations for activities/excursions.
