I can’t say enough nice things about the Aurora Hotel! Before booking, I called several times with questions about the island/hotel, and Melissa and Casey were so sweet and helpful. When checking-in, Fabian was hilariously friendly.
Because Catalina is such a tiny island, most hotel rooms and bathrooms are very small. Knowing this, we rented the Aurora Celebrity Suite, which is very spacious (incl. a private entrance, a fireplace, sunporch with patio furniture, huge bathroom with 6-head shower, separate living room and sitting area). Plus cute brown bathrobes, brown wash cloths, makeup wipes, and other necessary toiletries.
Melissa knew it was our wedding anniversary and that we didn’t drink alcohol, so there was a bottle of sparkling cider and some chocolates in our room with a handwritten note. The free breakfast had a fair amount of options. The roof top deck offered a lovely view of the ocean and the city. Melissa was nice enough to take some bikini pics of me on the roof.
The deck was under construction which was loud, so the hotel manager, Parker, gave us a really good deal on our stay! And Casey helped us get back to the dock in time to catch our ferry home. I highly recommend the Aurora Hotel!

Our first time in Catalina and we enjoyed our stay with a couple of notes for improvement. We chose the standard room which is very cozy and the bathroom was small including a door that resembles a closet sliding door so there was hardly any privacy, even when fully "closed", the sink was extremely small and the shower was tight. The bed was too firm for me, the pillows were very thin and small and the steep hill going up was quite a workout.
The continental breakfast, coffee and various refreshments were delicious and the staff was very nice, helpful and full of helpful recommendations. We may come back but would have to splurge on one of the suites and either get a golf cart or do some stretches.

Yes the rooms and bathrooms are small. Catalina's room inventory is not big and most of the rooms that are larger are priced accordingly. The room itself was efficiently designed with a microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker, numerous electrical outlets, a small desk and very good lighting. We found the roof top ocean view deck to be a great mostly private place to enjoy the property. The several different people we interacted at the front desk during our stay were very friendly, well trained and knowledgeable about the island. Would absolutely stay there again.

Atrocious!!! Claustrophobic. I literally am having trouble breathing. Rooms are unbelievable small, look nothing like the pictures on the website. If you book here, please make sure you confirm that your “ocean view room” isn’t marred by the myriad of electrical wires. This is a cut-rate hotel. Wrinkly disgusting robes that I wouldn’t put out for an animal to sleep on. You’re room in only cleaned if you ask for it to be cleaned. I would have preferred to stay in a tent on the beach. AND THE ROOM STINKS! Musty and disgusting!

We stayed at the Aurora Hotel, Avalon. It is extremely clean, a big plus for us. Very pleasant and courteous staff. when I called, they were almost totally booked. Fabio was so helpful and booked the last room for me. Gave me a room with a view of the harbor. Parker was very accommodating, as was Conner. Very pleasant, all of them. They have an absolutely delicious breakfast (eggs, sausage, potatoes, English muffins, bagels, yogurt, cereal, and more). they bake cookies in the afternoon. The room had everything you'd need, although i did not use the robes they provided but they were there nonetheless. Keurig coffee machine in the room. a big plus when you wake up early. They also have coffee in the lobby 24/7. We enjoyed our stay and would stay there again. its only 10-15 minute walk from the boat dock. and at the end there is 2 blocks of a hill. I would recommend the Ride Circuit app. you'll get a ride anywhere for $2 per person. The rooftop patio had a view of the harbor with comfy chairs.

Aurora was a great choice, from the very beginning Fabian at the front desk helped me through the phone to do the reservation not only for the hotel room but also for the ferry from Dana Point to Avalon. He helped me get a package for 2 ferry tickets round trip + 1 night ocean view room + wine bottle in the room for my girlfriend's birthday for a great price (better than booking separately).
The hotel room with ocen view is great, breakfast is really good and customer service is 5 stars. The rooftop you can hang out to catch the sunset or have some drinks. Location is perfect, not too up in the streets, very calm and quite, but not too far from the main street and beach. 100% recommended, great location, service, price and ambience.

Bad pillows! Pain in the neck pillows! If a good night's sleep is dependent on a comfortable pillow for you, unfortunately you won't find that here. We enjoyed a very comfortable, large, lovely room at the end of the second floor, I think they called it a suite. It was always quiet and peaceful there, plus the deck overlooking the harbor is the best seat in town in the mornings and early evenings. Could be a 5, if they replace the pillows.

As soon as you walk in the door you notice a modern-style lobby with a snack/beverage bar off the the left side. The concierge were nice and accommodating. Our room was on the 2nd floor and was a good size for 2 adults. The only thing was the size of the bathroom and shower were quite small for the average adult and the bed was quite uncomfortable. Their rooftop lounge was newly renovated and the highlight of our stay. The complimentary breakfast was decent but a limited selection. Overall a good stay!

A perfect place to stay on Catalina Island. A deck to have breakfast or a sunset. Parker and Melissa are the two best front desk people we have ever met. They shared lots of curious facts about the island. Gave their local food stops, each was awesome. Parker knew we liked to hike and suggested Bike Catalina that took us to the top, airport, and we rode 10 miles down to Avalon. Yvonne was amazing as well! I absolutely stay at Aurora Hotel again.

The room we stayed in was a junior suite. We had a partial view which was nice. The ac was refreshing and the room was very spacious. King bed with a couch that turned into a bed. The bathroom was a good size and has a nice window view as well. Mini fridge was handy as we chilled waters and a few adult beverages. The only thing I was disappointed in was the customer service. No one ever answered the phone and no one was at the desk. We had to ring the bell a few times to get someone’s attention. Also we went to the island for an anniversary my bf told check in and they said they would add a bottle of champagne and they never did (poor customer service) . And due to Covid the breakfast only consisted of cereal, yogurt and juice. Highly disappointed.
