If you are looking for a beautiful, quiet and clean place to stay at while visiting the Kenai Peninsula, then Bear Essentials Lodging is worth checking out. My mother and I have been repeat customers since 2014. We loved getting up in the morning and sipping coffee while watching wildlife from our private deck. We appreciated having access to our... The Bear Den is a large log house with beautiful details unless you don't care for large stuffed game animals. It had two major flaws that we (a group of birders) found. One is a lack of closet space and suitcase racks. You just put luggage on the floor and try not to trip over it. The second is it... More

We stayed in the Iliamna room. Queen bed with double bed above. All log furniture, owner is a log furniture maker. Our room had a satellite TV a nice bathroom with very good towels. They are off the grid but we always had lights, TV, and hot water when ever we needed it. A full kitchen room available for guest... More

We called Ken at the last minute to book a stay. Fortunately a large party had just left and they had availibility. The owners or caretakers, Jill and George, worked with our 1 a.m. arrival time without hesitation, unlocked our room for our family, and "left the lights on" for us. Couldn't have asked for a better reception for a... More

These were the friendliest caretakers we met on our whole trip. Carl was kind and had wonderful Alaskan tales to tell. The room we stayed was comfortable and clean. We had lots of room for the kids to sleep. Carl is the treasure to the Bear Essentials cabins. It is kind of far out there but I didn't mind knowing... More

We first stayed here in 2006. Since then, we have been back 4 times. The rooms are clean, the beds comfortable and the price is extremely reasonable. It is off the beaten path and you have to pass over a bridge that is in disrepare (I understand that situation is now being addressed), but it is worth it. The caretakers... More

We have stayed at Bear Essentials the last two years on our trek from Nebraska to fish halibut with Catchalot Charters. The hosts are great people and will do everything to ensure your stay is pleasant. Off the beaten path, it is very relaxing. We stayed in the Snowshoe Room and slept six with the fold out futon on overlook... More

Recently returned from a vacation to Alaska and wanted to recommend one placed we stayed, Bear Essentials in Anchor Point (about 20-30 minutes from Homer). If you want to get off the beaten path and enjoy nature and good company at reasonable prices, then this is the place to stay. Bear Essentials is located about 2-3 miles off Sterling Highway...
