Several reviews mentioned room and noise problems here. On our two night stay on an August weekend, we had no complaints on either account. The staff, especially one lady in the breakfast room, were very welcoming and helpful. The biggest problem we found at the Fairfield in is access to and from eastbound New York Avenue, which is 6 lanes, a divided median, and has no direct access to the hotel. We had to turn left at the next street, drive a block, turn around, come back and either turn back right onto NY Ave., or go through the lot of an adjacent hotel to get there. Getting back onto NY Ave to get into downtown DC is equally tricky. I haven't seen this problem mentioned on other reviews, so maybe it's not a big for most guests. Some reviews knocked the neighborhood as

Dear Newt; Thank you for choosing our Fairfield Inn as your place to stay while in town. We are delighted to hear that you all enjoyed your stay, received excellent customer service and found time to visit the beautiful gardens nearby at the National Arboretum. We are sorry to hear there was some difficulty finding our driveway and for the added drive time. East bound, there is a left hand turn lane before you reach the light for Bladensburg Rd, there is a sign posted that says Fairfield Inn, that turn will bring you into our entrance. Exiting from the hotel onto New York Ave is one way, it is easier if you are going towards NW DC, to go through the other hotel lot (it is also our hotel), exit carefully onto Bladensburg Road, and make a left to go into NW DC. We hope that helps a little for the next visit. Thank you again for your business. We hope to welcome you again whenever your travels bring you to DC. Sincerely, Sarah L. The front staff were very nice but there seemed to be a lot of people "hanging around" the lobby. The is well kept and gives a nice first impression. Unfortunately the room I stayed in was old and dirty. The picture I included is the dirt caked around the door handle of the closet. It easily could be cleaned but wasn't and this is not after one use. Carpet is old, furniture has been clearly around for quite some time. It is very loud with traffic outside. The Uber driver suggested I not walk outside after dark. In fact, the last day I was here, three police cars ran lights and siren to the hotel. Not sure what the commotion was about. There are plenty options in the area, I will not stay here again.

Dear Phantom; Thank you for choosing our hotel as your place to stay while visiting Washington DC. We know there are a lot of options in the city and take your business and review seriously. We are pleased to hear the customer service and welcoming lobby at first had you feeling at ease. We work hard to maintain our rooms and we appreciate your feedback, we can see that we had some missed opportunities to keep this room at the highest of cleanliness standards that we uphold, every day. We will work with housekeeping to ensure this room is ready for arrivals. While we have no control over the area surroundings, we can say that the hotel is very safe and the surrounding area, being a busy downtown, urban setting, is comfortable as well. We are sorry if the Uber driver put any unnecessary doubts in your mind. There is a police station just up the road so it can be a busy intersection, there is a lot of space to cover in the city by the Officers that proudly work here. I do apologize that in the end the location did not have you feeling safe, we wish there was more we could do provide a more enjoyable experience, we remain here should you wish to give us another try one day. Sincerely, Staff & Management Fairfield by Marriott, Washington DC New York Ave

Front desk staff welcoming and very gracious. Answered our questions and gave us good information. Breakfast staff were also gracious and helpful. We chose this location because it was relatively close to Fedex Field where we attended the Rolling Stones No Filter concert.

We stayed one night at this location but it was very dull and depressing area. Will not stay here again. There are far more better hotels in the vicinity. Marriott is generally great overall but this hotel did not meet our expectations.

Dear ameeta; Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We know there are a lot of choices in the city for hotels and we appreciate you giving us a fair chance. We take great care and pride in our hotel and customer satisfaction is very important to us. We understand it was not our hotel but the area that did not meet your expectations, we are sorry to hear that. The Northeast area where we are has a lot of economic development that has already happened and in the works, from the brand new Ivy City a few blocks away to the exiting shops at Dakota. We understand there are other hotels with more to do in a walking distance and we appreciate once again that you gave us a chance. We are sorry to hear you will not consider another stay due to the surrounding area only. Thank you, Staff & Management Fairfield by Marriott Washington DC New York Ave.
