Few hotels in America ooze as much American political history or can boast the rich and beautifully rendered patriotic architecture, as The Wilard. As frequent IHG guests, we were treated to an over the top upgrade, but it seems like most of the rooms at the hotel are spacious upgrades regardless. Very friendly, contemporary, and efficient service felt comfortable beside points of interest such as the 19th century luxury front desk Hotel charm. Located right in the center of everything important in DC, and only a block or two away from the White House. Where else in America can you go to a single floor and find the Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King Suites in the same hallway. And all of these people, as well as dozens more notables, stayed there and have suites named after them The ceiling in the Lobby is worth the trip to see, every US state represented with its own unique Medallion. Mark at the front desk spoiled us, and everyone else treated us with the understated luxurious service accompanying the almost overstated architectural opulence. We had a delicious room service in our private dining room too. We will definitely stay at The Willard again and again when we are in D.C !…
The location does not get better. This hotel is located in the heart of DC, within walking distance to most attractions. The hotel itself is beautiful if a tad intimidating on arrival. However, the friendliness of the staff is incomparable. The attention to detail sells the stay. I will definitely return.
I checked in and went to “my” room only to find someone sleeping there. After going back to the front desk they finally found a new room for me (they had obviously given away my room and were struggling to find a room for me). My new room is at the end of a long hall and the only light in the room is a tiny porthole window. Very concerning lack of security. Will not stay here again.
beautiful hotel. Lovely comfortable rooms. Great beds. Baths , well, not so much. Toilet very strange. Lots of walking, and lots of stairs, in hotel. Not good for handicapped people. Inhouse restaurant, poor. Great location. Staff very professional but not friendly. Busy busy busy.
A superb hotel. It was great to stay somewhere so historic. Don’t miss the small corridor with the hotels history with a list of famous people who have stayed there and loads of interesting artefacts. The lobby is stunning. Fine detail. Superbly presented. Check in was smooth and they were able to organise for us a taxi from Dulles airport. We got a room upgrade to a suite. The room was great. We had a small kitchen room with a fridge and a coffee machine. The wardrobe was a great size - loads of space for clothes and shoes and even the suitcases. There’s a safe there too. The bathroom was great - bath and a great shower. Toiletries provided. They have a hairdryer but it’s not that strong. The room had a comfy chair and a sofa as well as a huge desk and a chest of drawers with a tv on. Loads of storage space. The king size bed was really comfortable. Really classic finish in the room. We had some hotel credit which we used in the bar - the round robin is a historic bar with loads of atmosphere! The mint julep is amazing. Breakfast for us was included as part of our deal with the hotel - it was fantastic. It was served at the cafe du parc next door. Great staff. Huge portions. It was such a delight to stay in such a beautiful and historic hotel.…
We stayed in two connecting rooms on the 5th floor. The rooms were very large and spacious, and well-kept. It was wonderful to have daily cleaning service, which is hard to find recently. We brought our kids, and this was quite upscale for them. Everyone was gracious and the kids loved it. The location was great for seeing the sights as well as a show at The National and some live sports. We also had drinks at the bar and room service one night. Everything was great and the staff were wonderful. We’d highly recommend this hotel!
Truly a historical hotel in the perfect location. Could not think of a better place to stay, walking distance to the National Mall. In addition to the location, the hotel is truly a piece of history. It is incredibly well kept, with very spacious and comfortable rooms. We truly enjoyed our stay.
BLUF - Do not recommend. The hotel directly caused a poor honeymoon experience and hotel does not care about customer experience. Beware of fraudulent charges. We were severely disappointed by our stay at the Willard. Based on prior reviews, this looked to be a good, centrally located hotel for our honeymoon. For the service and quality advertised, the rate seemed reasonable. However, for what we actually received this hotel offers little value and frankly we would have been better off at a Motel 6. This hotel experience put a significant damper on our honeymoon. We will NOT be back and strongly recommend others to consider other lodging options in the area. 0. We had room service one morning. Added tip was $8.00. Charged tip was $18.00! Beware of fraudulent charges at this hotel. 1. We requested a high floor room, away from the elevator. We received a low floor room next to the elevator. The request was made in writing during booking, in the IHG App prior to check in, during the online check-in process, and while checking in at the front desk. The request was clearly not honored. We also made it clear we were on our honeymoon. This severely detracted from the stay as it was NOT at all peaceful. 2. We were placed on a floor with multiple school groups. Kids were running in the halls and slamming doors late at night and early in the morning. This precluded sleep and severely detracted from any attempts at a romantic weekend. (Note: walls/floors/doors, etc. are very thin and not at all soundproof. All sounds travel very well into the rooms.) 3. Being on a low floor near the elevator (completely opposite our request), resulted in significant noise throughout the evening/night/morning that precluded sleep or a peaceful weekend. 4. Best of all, there was construction going on in the room directly below us! We got in late on a Thurs evening and were rudely woken up on Fri morning with sawing, hammering and other construction related noises that were loud! After notifying the front desk, they allowed as this was planned construction and were not surprised. Stated it would stop for the weekend but stated was unable to take action for Monday morning. Guess what....we were awakened again on Monday morning due to the same noises! It's hard to have a restful getaway with construction next door.... 5. Immediately after checking in and being placed next to the elevator we asked for a room change. Was told nothing available. When pressed about our requests at booking and check in it was clear the hotel not only does not honor these, they do not even read or acknowledge! 5. After the kid and construction noise on Thurs night/Fri morning we asked to change rooms. Were told the hotel was fully booked and no other accommodations were available. When asked to speak to a manager was told the morning manager the next day(!) would be in touch. The manager NEVER reached out. When the construction noise started on Monday morning, it took 20 minutes and 4 calls to the front desk to get in touch with a manger to stop the noise (front desk clerk was not empowered to do this on their own). 7. Of the four elevators, at most only two appeared operational throughout the stay. While the rooms are nice and the location is good, this hotel does not appear to care about the guest experience and offers very poor value for the rates charged. Do not recommend.…
Simply stunning. This is one of our favorite hotel stays ever. After 2 years of enduring a pandemic with limited travel and long work hours, this was exactly the break that we had hoped for. We celebrated our son’s birthday here and it was a surprise getaway. The oval suite was stunning and the smiles on the kids’ faces couldn’t be beat. The hotel was gracious and kind with a surprise treat for our son and truly made his day ! The views are exceptional and the hotel is conveniently located near the White House and within easy walking distance to the Washington Memorial. It was a pleasant and easy walk to the national memorials, the cherry blossoms along the basin and the Smithsonian museums. Cafe de Parc was a hit with adults and kids alike ! High tea looked awesome as well. Room service was amazing and the hotel staff were very helpful and kind. The history of this hotel lives on in its dedication to exceptional service. We loved our stay and are grateful for the way they made us feel special and welcome. Thank you ! We would recommend this hotel without hesitation and look forward to staying here again in the future !…
In the last 6 years, I have visited DC, 6 times. This is trip number 100 and something to the United States. (international visitor.........travels ....more than most). By and large, most trips - you glide in and glide out. However, from the first welcome at the door, followed by the friendly and efficient front of house team. We were are a small group of.........not technically minded individuals. However, the Willard team were in communication every step of the way. Each interaction was........honest! Where we had requests - yes or no was the answer - not a yes, to be followed by a no! .............you can have an electric fire in winter......yes it will warm your toes.......or you can have a log fire........it'll warm your toes and heart.......and give you a cup of cocoa..........welcome to the Willard...........we didn't look to see if our cocoa was too hot or cold........we just know someone prepared it for us.....and did their best. The Willard team has a soul. There is plenty of ...........from the script sales, and service out there. Then you test if, colour outside the lines...........then you see how human and professional people are. We gave those lines a good rattling. The Willard is homely, if you want to take time to chat to the people looking after you - you won't be disappointed. I have no personal gain in this - but - the Willard team are simply wonderful. .........they really will help make your stay in Washington. .............I think I've stayed in 10 hotels in Washington DC...........none bad.........but Willard is human! Thank you to all.…
