I'd long heard about the opulence of the Mayflower Hotel, so I decided to give it try. It was terrible from the start. When I checked in they didn't have keys available for the rooms, so a security guard had to let me in every time I returned. When I got there, I inspected my room and there were rings from someone's drinks on surfaces. When I complained to the front desk manager Becca and housekeeping, they tried to say it was etched into the marble, but I was able to wipe it away myself. While I was wiping all the room's surfaces down, I found hair presumably from a previous guest. After that was when I called Marriott Bonvoy, who arranged for me to move to another room in the hotel. A couple of nights later I wake up in the morning to a huge roach in my bathroom. I alerted the front desk, who assured me that my room would be thoroughly cleaned but when I returned to my room hours later, the roach was still there and my room had NOT been serviced. This was the most disappointing stay I've ever had at a Marriott property.…
Beautiful hotel. Extremely clean. I guess due to the COVID or whatever there was no bell service ( there was a bell man but no Service, You had to lug your bags in yourself, which was no biggie. (They gave me a cart). Employees were nice and friendly. Service otherwise was great. The lobby is beautiful and reminded me of a hotel from the 50's. ( I love old hotels with class, character and chandeliers everywhere). Our room was very large. Nice size bathroom too. Foyer area when you walk in with a closet. Room was clean, comfortable and modern. The bar was only open 1 night. Location was perfect. Train station right on the corner. Mostly everything is within walking distance. Would definitely stay here again.
We stayed one night... our rate included parking (a bonus) and check in was quick and they allowed us early check in (noonish) Beautiful historic lobby with a coffee shop...it's like a step backmin time. Quite grand!! We didn't eat at the restaurant on site. It's a good location for walking, although most buildings in the area are boarded up. We felt safe there. The front desk was quick in accommodating our need for a last minute roll away bed, and it's pet friendly too! The rooms were clean and nicely decorated, bathroom us updated as well!
I stayed for a week here after going nuts cooped up at home. There is soooooo much to see and do in DC and very happily, the metro takes you to just about everywhere you need to go. The metro station, Farragut North, is half a block away and Farragut West about three short blocks - with different colored routes. Some attractions are close by, such as the Phillips Collection but you'll likely want to put your energy into the things you are going to do and take the metro to most places, even though you could walk. The hotel was not at its best, with restaurants closed and no housekeeping due to COVID. That said, it is beautiful with a huge marble lobby and staff is very friendly. The room was well appointed, with a table and chair to use as office and the minifridge was emptied so I could use it to store food. I did feel that they were addressing COVID well and taking good precautions. Sadly, the chair had a big sag in the middle that I addressed by putting one of the lovely pillows on it but really? They gave us tickets to use for free coffee at the coffee shop next door, which also had a limited selection of pastries. There are not very many good restaurants in walking distance - takeouts and a Shake Shack are about it. Fortunately, several Smithsonian galleries were open with timed entry, which necessitated online signup and of course one could access the monuments, which are outdoors. Not sure how much longer they will stay open now that infections are spiking. Availability was good for all but the National Museum of African American History and Culture. One can make reservations 30 days out and if you want to go here, you should get online early in the morning 30 days out!…
I was so disappointed with our experience at the Mayflower. As we were driving back from Philly, it got late on us and we decided it would be better for us to stop in D.C than to continue the drive through. Being we were only going to be in D.C. for one night and just to sleep (arriving about 11 and leaving about 8am), we looked for a hotel through a 3rd party website. We booked the mystery room and were assigned the Mayflower. As soon as it was booked, we realized it never asked us for the size bed and we were needing 2 doubles. We called the hotel and a nice young woman answered the phone, we explained we had just booked online and we werent given an option but that we were needing 2 double beds. She said no problem, she had already fixed it. We arrived, exhausted, to the hotel about 11. Checked in and went to the room to find we were in a king bed. We called back down and the gentleman,Ali, said oh yes I see here you are in a double - let me get that fixed right away. He called back and then said, no he didnt have another room. We said, you JUST said you saw it was a double and he DENIED saying that. We went down to discuss with him and he said that we were 4 people instead of 2 and we advised him again that we had made an error when booking and had called and let the young woman know almost immediately after booking and she had said it would not be a problem. He advised that we were on a timeshare floor and he couldnt move us to the "main floor". He offered a roll away. We asked the size and he said a full so we agreed. When we got the rollaway it was clearly a twin. The person who brought it up said "this is all we got". At this point, we tried calling one more time but he had blocked our room calls and we were unable to reach the front desk. We were so exhausted that we just made it work and left early the next day. The bathroom door also didnt close as it was broken. The bathroom was not very clean but hey - we were on the timeshare floor... I travel alot for business,so let me tell you - this was one of the worst experiences that I have ever had. He clearly did not want to beleive we had made an error when booking (that we tried to immediately fix. He had no intention of trying to help us or make it right even tough we had already talked to an employee at the hotel and accused us of lying even though he clearly told us he saw we had a double booked. We didnt realize we were segregated to one floor by booking through a 3rd party. It was an awful experience and we felt very embarassed by the way we were treated. The hotel itself is beautiful but I guess our disheveled tired selves werent good enough for their "regular floor". NEVER AGAIN.…
